Vampire Weekend & HAIM Play 2 Songs On 'Fallon': Watch - Stereogum

Vampire Weekend are good at their jobs. Last weekend, the band came back from a six-year absence with the lush, expansive new album Father Of The Bride, one of those rare albums that’s fun to listen to and fun to argue about. And now that their machinery has rumbled back to live, Vampire Weekend are back on the promo tour. Last night, they served as musical guests on The Tonight Show — their first televised performance in five years. And as it turns out, they are still excellent at playing their songs while they’ve got TV cameras pointed at them.

The Vampire Weekend that played last night’s Tonight Show was, of course, a whole lot different from the five-years-ago edition. Rostam Batmanglij is no longer on board, and now Vampire Weekend have a massive touring band with a bunch of extra musicians. But Ezra Koenig remains one of the most charismatic, expressive rock frontmen that this century has produced, and his arched-eyebrow panache has not dimmed one tiny bit in all those years away.

On last night’s show, the band played the ruminative Father Of The Bride single “This Life.” Danielle Haim sang on a few Father Of The Bride songs, and she and her sisters and HAIM bandmates stood in as backup singers. (They also recently joined Vampire Weekend at the band’s seven-hour New York show.) The Haim sisters did choreographed dance steps and seem delighted to be there, and the song sounds pretty glorious live. And as an online bonus, Vampire Weekend also played the Father Of The Bride closer “Jerusalem, New York, Berlin.” That song is a Danielle Haim duet, so she sang lead with Koenig, and the band really drew out the quiet groove. Both performances are total must-see events, and you can watch them both below.

Father Of The Bride is out 5/3 on Spring Snow/Columbia. Read our Cover Story feature on Vampire Weekend here. Also, Amy Poehler was a guest on last night’s Tonight Show, so let’s all have fun imagining her reuniting with her Parks & Recreation costar Rashida Jones, Koenig’s partner, in the green room. And in other news, Ezra Koenig and his Time Crisis co-host Jake Longstreth are the guests on the latest episode of Adam Scott and Scott Aukerman’s widely beloved podcast R. U. Talkin’ R.E.M. RE: ME? You can listen to that here:

George Clooney has joked that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's baby boy stole his thunder by arriving on his 58th birthday on Monday.

The Catch-22 star - who has 23-month-old twins Ella and Alexander with his lawyer wife Amal Clooney - quipped that it was 'a little irritating' to share his birth date with the royal couple's son.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, he laughed: 'It was a little irritating, because that kid really is stealing my thunder! This was my day! I was sharing it already with Orson Welles and Sigmund Freud!'

He said: 'I'm very happy. They're a lovely couple, so it's very exciting.'

George admitted that he doesn't feel it's his place to give Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan any parenting tips and made a joke about his age.

He said: 'I don't give advice, I'm 58. 'At 58 you just go, "Ugggh". I just walk with a walker everywhere I go.'

Meanwhile, it's believed the 37-year-old former actress and the flame-haired prince will share the first photograph of their son on Wednesday as well as announce the name they have chosen for him.

The birth was officially announced in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace, in keeping with tradition.

The typewritten note - which was in a gold frame - simply stated: 'The Queen and the Royal Family are delighted at the news that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex was safely delivered of a son at 05.26am today.

Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.' Shortly after the couple confirmed their son had been born via Instagram, Harry, 34, spoke with reporters and hailed the birth as an 'amazing experience.'

George is speculated to become Prince Harry and Meghan's first born son's potential godfather after sharing the same birthday.

His long-time friend and business partner Rande Gerber, who is married to supermodel Cindy Crawford, wished the Ocean's Eleven star a great day as he posted a fun snap of the pair.

The Most Shocking Beauty Transformations From the Met Gala 2019: Kylie Jenner, Bella Hadid, and More - Vogue.com

Perhaps more than any other red carpet, the annual Met Gala calls for a serious beauty and fashion transformation. And with last night’s theme, "Camp: Notes on Fashion," attendees naturally took it to the next, very campy, level—and what better way to embody Susan Sontag's brilliant essay than with a complete hair and makeup switch-up that requires onlookers to ask, who is she?

Actress Zendaya traded in her brunette lengths for a Cinderella-inspired blonde bouffant, while Kylie Jenner paired her lilac Versace gown with a set of long lavender waves. Elsewhere, bobbed beauty Lucy Boynton took the pewter plunge, off-setting her sparkling frock and crystal painted under-eye with a shocking shade of grey blue. And while beauty risk-taker Kristen Stewart is never one to shy away from a good beauty change, last night she reached new heights, stepping onto the carpet with a sherbet-colored pixie and coordinated bleached tangerine eyebrows. With these transformations as precedent, we can't wait to see what they do next year.

Game Of Thrones: What Dracarys Means And Why Missandei Says It In Episode 4, Season 8 - GameSpot

We're nearing the end of Game of Thrones. Season 8 has just two episodes left, which means the show as a whole is two episodes away from officially begin done. This past Sunday night brought Episode 4, and after tensions ran high (both political and bedroom related), we're fast approaching the penultimate moment in the battle for the Iron Throne. After a fairly quiet period, Episode 4 had a tense conclusion, and one word may have defined what happens next as one last big battle looms. Spoiler warning: The events of Episode 4 are described below.

No Caption Provided

In the final moments of Episode 4, Missandei is precariously stood beside Cersei having been taken prisoner when Euron's fleet launches an ambush. Dany watches on as Tyrion attempts to negotiate for her life and Cersei's surrender. Unfortunately, his diplomacy fails and Cersei turns to Missandei and tells her to share any final words. Missandei looks to her queen below and declares "dracarys."

The word translates to "Dragonfire" in High Valyrian; it is the same word Dany uses to signal her dragons to fire upon her enemies. In this case, the word is a final utterance of allegiance and support to her queen, knowing full well it will be her last. It's not a far stretch to assume Missandei's last word may also be a call for Dany to destroy Cersei in the same way as she has the rest of her enemies.

The word also has some significance to the relationship between Missandei and Dany. The two first met when Missandei was still a slave who served as an interpreter to slave-trader Kraznys mo Nakloz of Astapor. Dany ultimately frees Missandei by ordering the enslaved Unsullied to turn on the slave-traders of Astapor. In the fray of the uprising, Dany turns to Kraznys and calmly says "dracarys." Upon hearing the instruction, her dragon Drogon breathes a ball of fire onto the slave-trader and reduces him to ashes. Missandei's choice of her final word is almost certainly a callback to this moment and Dany's impact on her life.

Or, you know, take it from the woman herself. After the episode aired, Nathalie Emmanuel, who portrays Missandei, tweeted, "Dracarys." She followed this up with her own personal translation, "Burn the bish."

This was not a good episode for the dragons or Dany, as Rhaegal can attest. (It was also one with a notable gaffe, as a coffee cup made it into a shot at Winterfell--HBO has now even acknowledged it and digitally removed it from the episode.) For more, check out some fresh theories after Episode 4 and take a look at the preview trailer for Episode 5. We also have a sizable collection of Episode 4 Easter eggs and references you might have missed, as well as theories for where things could go over the last two episodes--Cleganebowl is almost here.

No Home Birth for Meghan Markle -- Palace Confirms She Was Driven to the Hospital in Secret to Deliver Baby Sussex - The Cheat Sheet

Unless you live on a deserted island with zero access to wifi, then you’ve no doubt heard by now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed a son on Monday, May 6. Prince Harry made an appearance outside Frogmore Cottage and excitedly updated reporters on the birth, his happiness, and the strength of all women, inspiring a chorus of “Awwwws!” from the audience. One thing he didn’t mention? The place where the birth took place.

Considering the new dad wouldn’t want to leave his wife’s side, the location of the announcement led royal fans to question if Meghan Markle did experience a home birth like she wanted. But Buckingham Palace just confirmed that in truth, the Duchess of Sussex snuck away to give birth in a hospital and even the top royal officials didn’t know about it.

Baby Sussex was probably overdue

Meghan Markle’s actual due date is still a mystery to most people, but since people believe she was expecting to give birth in late April or early May, they think the baby arrived late. If that’s true, there’s a possibility she was induced.

While many doctors will allow pregnant women to remain pregnant two weeks past their due dates, Meghan Markle’s age probably played a factor in how late she could be. It’s likely that she was closely monitored for the entire pregnancy. Any indication of distress for the baby would result in induction to preserve the health of the unborn child.

No one knew Meghan Markle was being taken to the hospital

Daily Mail correspondent Rebecca English explained that even senior royals weren’t made aware that Meghan Markle was heading to the hospital sometime Sunday evening. While we still don’t know which hospital baby boy Sussex was born in, royal insiders are betting it’s nearby Portland Hospital, which is also where Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were delivered.

Prince Harry and Doria Ragland, Meghan Markle’s mom, went with her to the hospital. But other than those close family members, no one knew about the secret hospital visit until after the Duchess of Sussex was already there.

The Duchess of Sussex skipped the post-birth photos

It came as no surprise that Prince Harry announced the baby’s birth solo since the couple already explained that they’d be skipping the iconic post-birth photo call on the hospital steps. Prince William and Kate Middleton take a different route, appearing for photos on the steps of the Lindo Wing mere hours after the birth for each of their children. Princess Diana did the same for both her sons.

But Prince Harry and Meghan Markle already explained that they weren’t planning to follow this tradition and would instead take time to “celebrate privately as a family” before releasing photos. Royal fans were nervous that they wouldn’t know about the birth at all, however that turned out to be inaccurate.

Now everyone is patiently awaiting the pictures of the newborn royal baby plus an announcement on the name. We can’t wait to see his precious little face!
