Just a couple months ago, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their newborn son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, into the world. And while they opted to participate in the typical first photoshoot and presented baby Archie to the public, he has been kept out of the public eye since. With the exception of an adorable photo featuring Prince Harry and Archie that was posted for Father’s Day, we have not seen the royal baby ever since. But that might all change when we see the baby for his upcoming christening.
When will the christening happen
Though the date hasn’t been confirmed by Markle or Prince Harry, a royal reported has made the announcement that the christening will take place this weekend on either July 6 or July 7. The christening will take place at St. George’s Chapel. This is a very special place for both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. If you recall, Prince Harry and Markle got married at St. George’s Chapel just last year. Furthermore, Prince Harry himself was baptized in the very same chapel when he was a baby back in 1984.
Will the Queen attend
Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that baby Archie’s great-grandmother, Queen II will be attending because of scheduling conflicts. Though this is not common, it certainly isn’t unprecedented. Just last year, The Queen missed Prince Louis christening because of scheduling issues. However, other royal experts have declared that there is still a chance that The Queen will make an appearance. In fact, some royal insiders say that the christening date was chosen to specifically accommodate the Queen’s many priorities. So we’ll just have to wait and see if Queen Elizabeth II makes an appearance this weekend.
A royal family affair
But whether or not the Queen attends the christening, plenty of other royals will be attending the affair. Of course, Prince Harry’s elder brother, Prince William, will attend with his wife Kate Middleton. Prince Charles and Princess Camilla are also on the list of those invited. Baby Archie’s maternal grandmother, Doria Ragland, will also attend. As of now, it is unclear whether Prince Harry and Markle’s close friends will be invited because the christening is being slated as a very private event. However, we can expect that Archie’s godparents will be announced, which could include a pair of famous faces.
New pictures of baby Archie
Because of the private nature of the event, we might not get many or any pictures of Archie. In contrast to his cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, Archie is being raised as a private citizen meaning that he will be kept out of the public eye as much as possible. While the press were allowed to photograph his cousins at their respective christenings with their family and godparents prior to their ceremonies, we can’t expect this will be true for Archie.
On the upside, it’s possible that Prince Harry and Markle will choose to share their own personal photos following the ceremony. Whatever the new parents decide, we’re sure it will be the best choice for their baby.
