Bryan Singer has agreed pay $150,000 to a man who accused him of rape, Variety reports.
Cesar Sanchez-Guzman sued Singer in 2017, alleging that the “Bohemian Rhapsody" director raped him in 2003, when he was 17.
Singer, 53, who grew up in West Windsor, is known for helming several “X-Men” movies and the 1995 film “The Usual Suspects." He also directed the Oscar-winning 2018 Queen biopic, though he was fired from the film toward the end of the project. Sanchez-Guzman’s lawsuit arrived just after Singer was fired.
In January, The Atlantic published a yearlong investigation of allegations against Singer from several men who said they were underage when Singer allegedly assaulted them. In the story, Sanchez-Guzman said Singer told him that nobody would believe him. He alleges that Singer forced him to perform oral sex, forcibly performed oral sex on him and anally penetrated him when they were at a party on a yacht in Seattle.
N.J. director Bryan Singer reportedly axed from ‘Red Sonja’ reboot in wake of sexual assault allegations
Singer, who grew up in Mercer County, has been accused of sexual assault by a series of men and was the subject of a yearlong investigation published in The Atlantic.
Singer has denied allegations of sexual assault and said that he never met Sanchez-Guzman. Andrew Brettler, Singer’s attorney, said his client still maintains his innocence.
If the settlement is approved, Sanchez-Guzman, who filed for bankruptcy in 2014, will get the remainder of the $150,000 after $61,000 goes to creditors (largely student loan debt) and another portion goes to pay for administration of the case, Variety reports.
In March, Singer was reportedly axed from directing the reboot of the 1985 film “Red Sonja."
Weeks before, Rami Malek, star of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” called working with Singer “not pleasant, not at all." The director had reportedly clashed with the cast and did not show up to the set for a long period of time.
