Why the Queen Would Rather Talk About Brexit Than Prince Harry and Meghan Markle - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seem to have a severe misunderstanding about what it means to be royal. After all the controversies they’ve been a part of, the royal family, especially the queen, is worried about how it will impact the monarchy.

That’s got to be really stressful for Queen Elizabeth, and it would be understandable if she didn’t want to talk about it. But as one recent visitor to the queen found, her insecurity around the issue might be much worse than anyone thought.

The Sussexes are a PR nightmare for the monarchy

It’s been a summer filled with controversy for the Sussexes. Their image with the British people continues to plummet and it has royal insiders worried about how it could affect the monarchy.

The duke and duchess caused an uproar when they took four private jets after claiming to fight for the environment. Even Prince Harry’s apology for the incident seemed insincere and did little to mend the damage.

Duchess Meghan made it appear that she was more interested in being a celebrity than a member of the royal family by guest editing Vogue magazine. During meetings for the special edition, Markle even said: “I WANT to break the internet.” This makes her appear to many like a celebrity pushing their new album or movie instead of a duchess.

It almost seems that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex just don’t understand what it means to be a royal. Almost every decision they’ve made lately has ended in disaster, and it has palace officials worried about the crown’s reputation.

Author of several books about the royals, Lady Colin Campbell told Page Six: “[The couple’s recent behavior is] a public relations disaster for Buckingham Palace, who are having a hard time reining them in.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle skipped out on Balmoral

Every year since 1852, the entire royal family takes a vacation to Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands. The residence covers 50,000 acres and was once described by Princess Eugenie as “the most beautiful place on earth.”

It’s the Queen’s favorite residence, and she considers the time spent with her family each year there to be very important. She’s been looking forward to the event, calling it “a few days of merry chaos.”

Last year, Prince Harry and Markle declined to go since the duchess was pregnant. This year, everyone assumed they’d make the trip. But instead, the Sussexes declined again. This was considered by many to be an “outright snub” of the queen.

The duke and duchess reportedly claim that Baby Archie is too little to make the trip, and they’re too busy with work. Except, Archie has been taken on several other trips, including a vacation to Ibiza for Markle’s 38th birthday, and now on their trip to Africa.

As far as the work excuse, Markle wasn’t too busy to take a flight to New York that same weekend so that she could watch Serena Williams play in the U.S. Open. The Sussexes declining to visit Balmoral with the Queen is looking more like they just didn’t want to see her than anything else.

The queen doesn’t want to talk about the Sussexes

After all the scandals and controversy that Prince Harry and Duchess Markle have been a part of, Queen Elizabeth refuses to discuss them. According to Fox News, a friend of journalist Quentin Letts was prepped before spending time with Queen Elizabeth, and he was told an interesting bit of information.

Letts tweeted about the incident. He wrote: “Friend of an acquaintance was about to go riding with HMQ. Was given v firm advice [sic] ‘Talk about anything except one subject.’ Brexit? ‘No, The Sussexes.'”

It’s understandable that the queen wouldn’t want to talk about her grandson and his wife after all the problems they’ve brought down on the monarchy. Queen Elizabeth probably has conflicting feelings where they’re concerned. She loves her grandson and was fond of Markle when she first joined the family, but the duke and duchess’ behavior has put the queen in a tough situation.

That said, it could also be that the queen is over the constant attention on her grandson and his wife. Rather than there being family drama, the simple reason could be there’s nothing to discuss and no questions worthy of answering.

Metallica cancel tour as James Hetfield returns to rehab - Louder

Metallica singer James Hetfield has gone into rehab. The news was confirmed in a statement on the band's website by Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo.

The statement read, "We are truly sorry to inform our fans and friends that we must postpone our upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand.

"As most of you probably know, our brother James has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years. He has now, unfortunately, had to re-enter a treatment program to work on his recovery again.

"We fully intend to make our way to your part of the world as soon as health and schedule permit. We’ll let you know as soon as we can. Once again, we are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who often travel great distances to experience our shows.

"We appreciate your understanding and support for James and, as always, than you for being a part of our Metallica family."

All tickets purchased for the Antipodean shows will be fully refunded, with details on how to obtain refunds on the band's website.

Hetfield's battles with addiction were documented in the 2004 movie Some Kind Of Monster, and he entered rehab after the film was released.

Asked in 2014 if the film was difficult to watch, Hetfield said, "A lot of times I’m not really comfortable with myself, seeing myself in the situations. But, man, I learned a lot about what I don’t like about me, which was good – and I think everyone involved pretty much felt the same way about themselves."

At the time of writing, Metallica's other future plans are still on schedule, including a charity concert in March 2020 to raise money for the band's All Within My Hands Foundation, a series of South American dates in April, and the Global Goal Live show in September.

Shakira and Jennifer Lopez Open Up About Their Super Bowl 2020 Halftime Show - msnNOW

Shakira and Jennifer Lopez are very excited about their upcoming performance at the Super Bowl.

To promote the announcement, which Pepsi and the NFL made Thursday morning, the singers sat down for a segment that aired during Fox's coverage of the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers Thursday night, and they opened up about what their performance represents.

"I love that it's in Miami," Lopez shares. "It's a very Latino town and that they picked the two of us."

"I feel incredibly honored and humbled to be, in a way, next to J.Lo, representing the Latino community that is such an important force in the United States," Shakira shared.

"I love that the Super Bowl has two women performing this year. That they have two Latinos performing this year," Lopez added. "It's the marker of a new time, not just for the NFL but for this country. It sends an important message.

Lopez explained that, "At the end of the day, it's about making a statement of love and unity and making everybody come together just for a moment, and hopefully that resonates for a long time."

While the pair admitted that they "haven’t really talked about what exactly [they're] gonna do," each of the performers had nothing but praise for one another.

"She's a champion in everything she does," Shakira said of Lopez. "It's going to be fantastic to be sharing that moment with someone like you."

"She's such a dynamic performer," Lopez marveled about Shakira. "She does her own thing, there's nobody like her, so I know that the two of us together are going to bring that special brand of what we do."

Lopez also took to Twitter on Thursday to celebrate the big announcement, as well as the launch of a flash pop-up store for her new fragrance, Promise, in New York City.

A source told ET on Thursday that, while Lopez and Shakira will both be performing at the halftime show, there will be more acts added.

"The NFL wants to make it a big event that focuses on Miami," the source added. "The Super Bowl halftime show will be a melody of numerous acts, performing together at times."

ET spoke with Lopez about the possibility of performing at the big game earlier this month and she said the opportunity "would be awesome."

"I think, like, when you're a little girl and you're dreaming, you know, you want to be an actress or you want to be a singer. There are certain things you hope to accomplish one day, and that's definitely one of those," Lopez marveled.

"It would be amazing," she added with a smile.

Hotel Guests Are "Livid" with Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin Over Wedding Drama - Cosmopolitan.com

Celebrity Sightings in New York City - September 14, 2018

James DevaneyGetty Images

  • Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber’s wedding is causing other guests at the hotel venue to be "livid."
  • Apparently guests have been told they can't use the spa or pool for 48 hours during the Bieber-Baldwin wedding extravaganza.

Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber’s official wedding is going down in just a few days over in South Carolina! At least that's what TMZ is out here reporting—and considering Justin and Hailey were spotted there as recently as August, that adds up.

While the wedding will doubtless be amazing and perfect and whatevs, TMZ reports that guests at the Montage Palmetto Bluff hotel—where the wedding is taking place—are super pissed (actually, "livid") because the ceremony is killing their vacation vibes.

Apparently, some major areas of the hotel are being completely "closed off from hotel guests," and the hotel informed everyone of this inconvenience pretty last minute. TMZ obtained an email from The Montage Palmetto Bluff to guests sent on Wednesday, which bans them from using the spa, as well as a pool and one of the hotel restaurants, for a full 48 hours (noon Sunday to noon Tuesday) during the Bieber/Baldwin wedding extravaganza.

Because of the inconvenience, TMZ reports that guests will get refunds and upgrades, as well as a free meal. Which honestly doesn't sound that bad so not sure what everyone's complaining about. Like, so sorry your fancy hotel comes with a free dinner and a side of Justin Bieber sightings!!!!!

Director Pushes Back Against 'Far Left' Joker Critics - Newser

(Newser) Joker director Todd Phillips says he's surprised by the backlash to the upcoming movie—and he thinks some of its detractors were just waiting for a target. Some critics have warned that the film glorifies "angry loners" and could inspire mass shooters, with Stephanie Zacherek at Time saying Joaquin Phoenix's Joker could "easily be adopted as the patron saint of incels," reports NBC. Relatives of Aurora mass shooting victims have written to Warner Bros. with their concerns. Phillips say the criticism has been "eye-opening." "I think it's because outrage is a commodity, I think it's something that has been a commodity for a while," he tells the Wrap. "What's outstanding to me in this discourse in this movie is how easily the far left can sound like the far right when it suits their agenda."

Phillips says they didn't make the movie, which gives the Joker a sympathetic backstory, to "push buttons" or glorify violence. "Isn't it good to have these discussions?" he asks. "Isn't it good to have these discussions about these movies, about violence? Why is that a bad thing if the movie does lead to a discourse about it?" He says that at one point during filming, he told Phoenix: "Look at this as a way to sneak a real movie in the studio system under the guise of a comic book film." Forbes movie reviewer Scott Mendelson has also criticized the criticism, tweeting that "the thing most likely to inspire copycat violence" after the movie's Oct. 4 release is "the constant media chattering about whether the release of Joker will inspire copycat violence." More 'Joker' controversies: Theaters ban costumes; Aurora families concerned - Fox Business

There is nothing funny about the controversies surrounding Warner Brothers' "Joker" movie.

The $55 million film about the rise of Batman's clown-faced arch rival, is forcing Landmark Theatres, the country's largest independent cinema chain, to extending its ban on face masks and toy weapons to include movie-goers wearing any costumes during the film's theatrical run.

Since the 2012 shooting at a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises"  in Aurora, Colorado, most movie theaters across the country have not allowed customers or employees to wear face masks and face paint or to carry toy weapons. Body costumes, however, have generally been allowed. "The Dark Knight Rises" featured Batman squaring off against the Joker.

Families of the victims from that shooting have also been asking the Burbank-based studio to take special precautions with the release of this movie including not showing the movie at the theater where the shooting took place seven years ago.

Five families sent a letter to new Warner CEO Ann Sarnoff asking her and the studio "to be a part of the growing chorus of corporate leaders who understand that they have a social responsibility to keep us all safe."

That letter asked for parent company AT&T to cease donating to politicians who take money from the National Rifle Association and for Warner to make donations to groups that aid victims of gun violence. The response outraged those who sent the letter.

“Together with other survivors of the 2012 Aurora shooting, we wrote @warnerbros to express the grief and concern stirred up by their new Joker film. Quite frankly, we found their response lacking,” tweeted Sandy Phillips whose daughter was killed in the mass shooting.

The studio response: “Gun violence in our society is a critical issue, and we extend our deepest sympathy to all victims and families impacted by these tragedies,” Warner Bros. said adding, "Our company has a long history of donating to victims of violence, including Aurora, and in recent weeks, our parent company joined other business leaders to call on policymakers to enact bipartisan legislation to address this epidemic."

In 2012, Warner Bros. donated $1 million-plus to the charities supporting victims of the Aurora shooting.

Cinemark, which owns the Century Aurora Theater where the mass shooting occurred., reportedly has no plans to show "Joker."

This image released by Warner Bros. Pictures shows Joaquin Phoenix in a scene from "Joker," in theaters on Oct. 4. Alarmed by violence depicted in a trailer for the upcoming movie “Joker,” some relatives of victims of the 2012 Aurora movie theater sh

Still, the movie has raised concerns. Earlier this week the military newspaper  "Stars and Stripes" reported that military commanders in Oklahoma were warned of the potential threat of violence at the theatrical release of the upcoming “Joker” movie, though law enforcement officials are not sure which theaters may be affected.

The paper wrote that an Army Criminal Investigation Command memo alerted commanders at Fort Sill, Okla., about an intelligence bulletin that said a Texas law enforcement agency working with the FBI had discovered “disturbing and very specific chatter in the dark web” about the possible targeting of an unknown theater for a mass shooting during the Oct. 4 release.

Sandy Phillips also said she requested a meeting with studio officials -- including Dee Dee Myers, the former press secretary for former President Bill Clinton, but was rebuffed.

Even among the families from Aurora though, there is a divide on the actions by Warner Brothers regarding this film and their concerns. “I know that for Sandy Phillips, the Warner Brothers response wasn’t enough, but for me it was,” Tina Coon whose son survived the Aurora shooting told FOX Business. “I think they offered a really nice statement, so for me, I am satisfied. But I know that the Phillips aren’t.”

    MORE FROM FOXBUSINESS.COM...

The R-rated movie is expected to bring in $80 million at the box office opening weekend and for the families of the Aurora shootings will only heighten their pain. "My son Tanner was inside the theater during the shooting and he has PTSD to this day," said Coon, “It is also important for people to know that some survivors of mass shooting traumas are still suffering, and can be triggered by a movie such as this.”

"The Dark Knight Rises" featured the late Heath Ledger in the role of the Joker for which he won an Oscar. This new film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, a mentally ill comedian and clown in the new movie. His character struggles to fit into society and devolves into a villain through the course of the film.

Regarding the rising controversy around the film,  “Joker” director Todd Phillips (no relation to Sandy) has told critics and those concerned via an interview with IGN that people should watch the movie before passing judgment.  “The movie makes statements about a lack of love, childhood trauma, lack of compassion in the world.," said Phillips, "I think people can handle that message.”
