Wendy Williams Under Fire for Appearing to Mock Drew Carey's Ex-Fiancee Amie Harwick's Death - TooFab

There are hot takes and then there are not takes, and Wendy Williams has once again found herself on the receiving end of criticism after appearing to take it way too far while talking about the death of Drew Carey's ex-fiancee, Dr. Amie Harwick.

The well-known sex therapist died after a fall from a balcony allegedly following an attack by her ex-boyfriend. Carey has canceled tapings of "The Price Is Right" as he deals with the emotional fallout of her death. But Williams appeared to make light of it during her show.

First, she made an insensitive comment while describing how Harwick died to her audience, emphasizing that "she was killed. Not by Drew."

She then took it way too far, by many people's standards, by invoking the classic "Price Is Right" phrase "Come on down!" as she first looked up and then down to the floor as if watching something -- or someone -- fall.

This proved even too much for her audience, who gasped audibly when she made her "not by Drew" comment, and met her follow-up joke with groans and dead silence.

As TMZ reported, police were called to Harwick's third-floor home by her roommate, who told them that Harwick's former boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse was assaulting Harwick. She had previously taken out a restraining order against her ex, but it had since expired.

Authorities reportedly found evidence of a struggle and Pursehouse was arrested and booked for murder in connection with Harwick's death. He is being held on $2 million bail.

Carey and Harwick were briefly engaged in 2018 after a year of dating. "Amie and I had a love that people are lucky to have once in a lifetime. She was a positive force in the world, a tireless and unapologetic champion for women, and passionate about her work as a therapist," Drew said in a statement received by TMZ of his ex-fiancee.

He continued, "I am overcome with grief. I would like to thank you in advance for giving myself and everyone who loved Amie privacy while we try to work through this tragic situation."

Fans, though, absolutely lit up social media at what they perceived as incredible insensitivity on the part of Williams, who just a few days ago was apologizing for making disparaging comments about the LGBTQ+ community. You can check out their latest outrage below:

'Love Island' host Caroline Flack warned cops she'd kill herself over 'horror movie' attack - Page Six

Former “Love Island” host Caroline Flack had warned police that she would kill herself if charged in an attack on her boyfriend that was so bloody it was said to be “like a horror movie,” according to reports Monday.

The UK celebrity — who died by suicide in her London home on Saturday — was first arrested in December after boyfriend Lewis Burton, 27, accused her of trying to kill him by smashing a lamp over his head.

Burton had called emergency services “almost begging” for help — and officers found the couple covered in so much blood it was “like a horror movie,” The Times of London said, citing previous court testimony.

Flack — who claimed in her memoir that she was once Prince Harry’s “bit of rough” — was seriously wounded after self-harming during the fight, sources told The Sun. She was treated by medics for 12 hours before she was deemed fit enough to be interviewed by officers, the paper says.

When Flack, 40, was being questioned by the police “she said, ‘I did it’” and threatened “that she will kill herself,” the court was previously told, according to the UK Times.

Prosecutors pressed on with charges even after Burton withdrew his complaint.

Flack, who had openly discussed her mental health issues, was “terrified” that police bodycam footage — showing her in a state of undress, covered in blood and severely distressed — would be shown in court, a source told The Sun.

The star’s talent agency attacked British prosecutors for continuing with the case “when they knew not only how very vulnerable Caroline was but also that the alleged victim did not support the prosecution.”

Prosecutors “should look at themselves today and how they pursued a show trial that was not only without merit but not in the public interest,” said Francis Ridley of Money Talent Management, saying it also “ultimately resulted in significant distress to Caroline.”

A legal source also told The Sun that Flack “should never have been prosecuted.”

“She should have been given urgent mental health treatment and psychiatric care,” the source insisted.

The Crown Prosecution Service sent its “deepest sympathies” to Flack’s family and friends, but did not comment further, according to London’s Evening Standard.

Parasite Reaches New Box Office Milestone After Making History At The Oscars - GameSpot

The thriller Parasite has reached a new box office milestone following its four wins at the Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Bong Joon-ho

The movie pulled in a further $5.5 million at the box office this weekend, pushing its worldwide tally to $204 million, according to Variety. This is an increase of 234 percent compared to the weekend prior, before all the Oscar wins. The $8.8 million that the movie made in the US alone during the week following the Oscars works out to 20 percent of its total box office sales.

Parasite has now made $44 million in the US, with the remaining $160 million coming from international markets.

Best Picture winners often see an increase in box office numbers after the Oscars--last year's Green Book saw its box office ticket sales jump by 121 percent after its win. The 234 percent increase in box office receipts for Parasite over the weekend is the highest increase in a decade for a Best Picture winner for the weekend after the Oscars.

Parasite made history at the 92nd Academy Awards. It became the first non-English movie to win Best Picture. It also won for best director, original screenplay, and international movie. The only categories that it was nominated for and didn't win were production design (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood) and film editing (Ford v Ferrari).

Drew Carey's ex-fiancée Amie Harwick murdered by former boyfriend, cops say - Page Six

Dr. Amie Harwick, a well-known Hollywood sex therapist and former fiancée of comedian Drew Carey, was killed by her ex-boyfriend after a fight at her Los Angeles home, reports said.

Harwick was discovered unresponsive on the ground below a third-story balcony at around 1:16 a.m. Saturday in Hollywood Hills after police were dispatched for reports of a woman screaming, according to CBSLA.

Police said there was “possible evidence of a struggle” and signs of an intruder.

Harwick’s ex-boyfriend, 41-year-old Gareth Pursehouse, was taken into custody and charged with murder, cops said. The pair had recently broken up, according to Deadline.

The report said that detectives “learned that victim had recently expressed fear about a former boyfriend and had previously filed a restraining order” against him.

The restraining order had recently expired.

Harwick, the author of “The New Sex Bible for Women,” was engaged to the “Price is Right” host in 2018. The couple reportedly had an “amicable split.”

Tributes paid to former 'Love Island' host Caroline Flack, dead at 40 - CNN

Flack, 40, the former host of the hit British reality show "Love Island, died by suicide and her body was found in her east London flat Saturday, a lawyer for the family told PA Media.
"We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today, the 15th of February," the family's statement said. "We would ask that the press respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time and we would ask they make no attempt to contact us and/or photograph us."
Flack hosted the series from its inception in 2015 until last December, when she was charged with assault after an incident at her home. She pleaded not guilty to assaulting her 27-year-old boyfriend, Lewis Burton. She was out on bail awaiting trial scheduled for March, and was replaced as host of "Love Island" a few days after her arrest.
At the time, she said that the show had been her "world" for the previous five years, adding: "It's the best show on telly."
On Sunday, new Love Island host Laura Whitmore payed tribute to Flack during her BBC radio show, calling her "vivacious" and "loving," while criticizing paparazzi and tabloid media.
"To paparazzi and tabloids looking for a cheap sell, to trolls hiding behind a keyboard -- enough," she said.
Whitmore said of Flack: "I'm not going to pretend she was perfect, but is anyone? She lived every mistake publicly, under the scrutiny of the media."
ITV, which puts on the show, called her a "much-loved member of the team.
"Everybody at Love Island and ITV is shocked and saddened by this desperately sad news," ITV2 tweeted. "Our sincere thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends."
Burton paid tribute to his "voice" on Instagram. Alongside a photo of the couple, he wrote: "My heart is broken we had something so special.
"I am so lost for words I am in so much pain I miss you so much I know you felt safe with me you always said I don't think about anything else when I am with you and I was not allowed to be there this time I kept asking and asking."
He added: "I will be your voice baby I promise I will ask all the questions you wanted and I will get all the answers nothing will bring you back but I will try make you proud everyday. I love you with all my heart."
On Thursday, Flack posted a montage photo to her 2.5 million Instagram followers of her and a dog, using the heart emoji.
Amber Davies, who was a winner along with Kem Cetinay during a 2017 season, tweeted: "My heart is actually broken."
Dani Dyer, part of the winning couple in the next season, said she was devastated. "Caroline you was a beautiful person and I'm so lucky to have known you. Love you. RIP you beautiful angel," she tweeted.
Amber Gill, one of last year's winners, simply wrote: "I'm heartbroken."
Maura Higgins, who finished in fourth place in the most recent season, wrote a short tribute on her Instagram. "Such heartbreaking news ... an incredibly kind & beautiful woman...RIP angel...thoughts and prayers to all her family," she said.

UK phenomenon

"Love Island" is, at its heart, a dating show. But in recent years, it's exploded in popularity to such an extent that it's now part of the British cultural calendar for about two months a year, dominating social media and winning converts with each passing episode.
So wide is its reach that it's been parodied on "Saturday Night Live" and has spawned various international spinoffs, which have achieved varying levels of success.
Flack was involved in other popular shows.
She was a presenter on "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! Now!" and "The Xtra Factor."
In 2014, she and her partner, Pasha Kovalev, won "Strictly Come Dancing."
Flack appeared in the British television comedy "Bo' Selecta!" which ran from 2002 to 2004.

Dr. Robotnik vs. Eggman: why fans debate Sonic the Hedgehog’s villain - Polygon

It’s bizarre to think that there’s a main villain in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and yet no one seems quite sure what to call him.

Yes, the age-old Doctor Robotnik-vs.-Eggman debate has raged since the dawn of time — or at least the early 1990s. And while many have picked sides, it’s important to know that there is a correct answer to this question, especially given the recently-released Sonic the Hedgehog movie. And we’re here to answer it.

I am the Eggman

In 1990, Sega was on the ropes after the messy launch of the Master System. The console would be rebranded as the Sega Genesis in the US, but it needed more than that to take off. It needed a must-have game. Hayao Nakayama, Sega’s president at the time, held an internal contest, seeking character designs for potential heroes in a new franchise. The winner of the contest, as drawn by character designer Naoto Oshima, was Mr. Needlemouse (who would go on to become Sonic the Hedgehog).

But there was another design by Oshima that the development team loved. This one featured a round man in a set of polka dot pajamas and a nightcap. He had a massive bushy beard and round, Coke bottle glasses. You can see his original design in this archived 1UP story recapping the contest.

While Mr. Needlemouse was a clear hero, the development team working on what would become Sonic the Hedgehog fell in love with this round man and felt he needed to be included in some way. He would go on to become Sonic’s main antagonist.

The dawn of Robotnik

The development team in Japan named the new character Doctor Eggman (a reference to The Beatles song). But when Sonic the Hedgehog was released in the US on June 23, 1991, the instruction manual listed him as Doctor Ivo Robotnik.

So where did Robotnik come from? In 2016, Game Informer spoke with the head of the Sonic team, Takashi Iizuka, to understand the shift.

“When the game was originally developed in Japan, they called the character Eggman,” he told Game Informer. “That was the name of the character, but when the game got localized and ported into the Sonic the Hedgehog that we know in the West, they decided to, without confirming with the development team, change his name to Ivo Robotnik or just Robotnik. That’s kind of when everyone first learned about the character. Of course, this was without consulting the people who made the game. They just kind of went off and did it.”

This led to a problem: When the game was released in Japan on July 26, 1991, the instruction book listed him as Doctor Eggman. So now they had the same character with two different names. Arguably the US version was released first, but internally the Sega team never saw that as the official name.

The names created so much confusion that Sega decided to unify everything in 1999 with Sonic Adventure. In that game, he’s referred to as both Robotnik and Eggman.

Since then, Sega has attempted to establish a canonical name for him. In an official Sega interview from 2008, Yugi Naka, one of the original Sonic creators, tried to back his way into a solution to the problem. “To tell the truth, his name has not changed,” said Naka. “Robotnik is his real name and Eggman is a common name taken after his shape.”

In other words, Eggman is an obnoxious nickname given to him by his haters, but Robotnik is what you’d find on his passport. Sure, it’s a messy retcon considering previous statements but whatever, it works.

What about the movie?

In the newly-released Sonic the Hedgehog movie, Jim Carrey’s red-loving, mustachioed villain is called Dr. Ivo Robotnik. But, during an important moment, James Marsden’s character calls him “Eggman” as an insult. This actually follows closely with what Sega has presented as the canonical answer to the name debate, though bizarrely Jim Carrey’s character is not round in the film, so the slight doesn’t make a ton of sense.

In short: “Dr. Ivo Robotnik” if you’re inviting him to dinner and “Eggman” if you’re kicking him out of your house.

“We are now going to see Kate grow in a way we never saw Princess Diana grow,” Mollard shared. “We never saw her reach that maturity and I think Kate is doing brilliantly. She has got three children, she never puts a foot wrong and she is being imaginative with her dresses.”

Spouses of the reigning monarch are usually given the title of consort. Prince Philip, for example, currently holds this title and Prince Charles’ wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, will be named Queen Consort once he ascends to the throne.

Burrell and Mollard, however, believe that Kate’s title will be different — and it all comes down to what the media calls her.

Will Kate Middleton become Queen?

There is no doubt that Kate’s official title will be Queen Consort once William inherits the crown. According to Express, Mollard and Burrell argue that the members of the media will call her Queen Kate, a name that will likely stick.

“Camilla will be Queen consort as will Kate actually, she won’t be called Queen Camilla,” Mollard explained. “However, I think there is a lot more chance that under casual fashion we will call Kate, Queen Kate or Queen Catherine.”

Mollard added that Kate Middleton will have earned that moniker by the time William is King, at least when it comes to public opinion. Based on everything the Duchess of Cambridge has done over the past decade, it is hard to argue against that.

There is also a historical precedent to back up the theory. Princess Diana was called a princess ever since she tied the knot with Charles in 1981. Her official title, however, was Diana, Princess of Wales.

Diana mentioned this subtle difference in multiple interviews, but the name stuck even after she divorced Charles. The same could happen with Kate, though a lot could happen by the time William sits on the throne.

The Duchess of Cambridge helps the royals move forward

Talk about Kate’s title comes during a turbulent time for the monarchy. A few months ago, Prince Andrew was forced to step down amid his scandalous ties to the pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Things got even worse for the royals at the beginning of January when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they are stepping down as well. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are planning on splitting their time between the UK and North America and will lose their HRH titles.

Amid all the drama, Kate Middleton has been stepping up her game and has already taken part in several engagements in 2020. This includes her new early childhood initiative, 5 Big Questions on the Under-Fives, and a visit to Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The royal family may be experiencing some serious turmoil at the moment, but Kate is clearly doing her part to keep “The Firm” moving forward.

Are Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle set to reunite?

Although Harry and Meghan are now enjoying a quiet life out of the royal spotlight, they are expected to return to the UK for one final engagement.

Inside sources say that Queen Elizabeth has asked the Duke and Duchess to appear at the upcoming Commonwealth Day service before Megxit becomes official.

If that happens, then Kate and Meghan will reunite for one last event before the former Suits star returns to Canada. Harry and William are also expected to attend the event in what might be one of the last times we see the couples together in an official capacity.

Kate Middleton has not commented on the reports surrounding her title. The Duchess of Cambridge is getting ready for a tour of Ireland and then Australia with her husband, details of which have yet to be revealed.
