Jane Fonda re-wears dress to the Oscars 2020 after vowing to quit shopping - Page Six

Jane Fonda is a woman of her word.

The “Grace & Frankie” star, 82, declared in November that she would give up shopping and refuse to buy any new clothes as a small part of the fight against climate change and that even applies to the Oscars 2020.

On Sunday, the actress-activist presented the award for Best Picture to “Parasite” wearing a red sparkling long-sleeved gown by Elie Saab that she originally wore in Cannes in 2014.

Though the dress may be familiar to Fonda fans, she did have a new look: The actress sported a short gray wig in place of her usual chin-length blond hair.

Fonda also stood on stage holding the now-infamous red coat that she said would be her last purchase ever and has since worn many times to climate protests — and to jail when she was arrested at the same protests.

While protesting on Capitol Hill on Nov. 1, she told the crowd, “So when I talk to people about, ‘We don’t really need to keep shopping. We shouldn’t look to shopping for our identity. We don’t need more stuff,’ then I have to walk the walk too. So I’m not buying any more clothes.” Since then, Fonda has re-worn many items, including a black sequin suit, which she sported twice in one week.

She has held 15 “Fire Drill Friday” protests so far, the most recent on the Friday before the Oscars 2020 red carpet. She was joined by Best Actor winner Joaquin Phoenix, who spoke at length about climate change and animal rights during his speech Sunday in the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Oscars 2020: Joker's Joaquin Phoenix Wins Best Actor Award - GameSpot

At the 92nd Academy Awards, Joaquin Phoenix won the coveted Best Actor in a Leading Role award for his performance as The Joker in Todd Phillips' billion-dollar DC movie, Joker.

Phoenix is the second actor to win the Best Actor award at the Oscars for portraying Joker, following Heath Ledger. He won the award posthumously for his performance in 2008's The Dark Knight.

Phoenix gave a blistering and haunting performance in Joker as Arthur Fleck in a story that saw his character evolve from a down-on-his-luck professional clown to become a murdering madman. He was widely expected to win the Best Actor award over the other nominees, which included Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Adam Driver (Marriage Story), and Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes).

In addition to Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix, Joker took home the Academy Award for Best Score by Hildur Guðnadóttir. Phoenix gave an impassioned acceptance speech where he spoke about how he would like to see people grow together in unity. You can watch it below.

Brad Pitt's politically charged Oscars 2020 speech gets backlash on social media - Fox News

After winning his first-ever Oscar for acting, Brad Pitt took the stage at the 92nd annual Academy Awards, where he opened his speech with a political jab, much to the dismay of many at-home viewers.

The 56-year-old star accepted his award for best supporting actor at the 2020 Oscars for his part as a stuntman in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” His was the first award announced at the 2020 show. He immediately took the stage and got political by taking a jab at Republican senators who voted against Democrats’ requests to call new witnesses in the impeachment trial of Donald Trump, specifically former National Security Adviser John Bolton, who claimed he was willing to testify.

“They told me I only have 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week,” Pitt said. “I’m thinking maybe Quentin [Tarantino] does a movie about it. In the end, the adults do the right thing.”

Speaking backstage, the actor explained why he included a political jab in his Oscars acceptance speech.

"I was really disappointed with this week," he told reporters. "And I think when gamesmanship trumps doing the right thing, it’s a sad day and I don’t think we should let it slide, and I’m very serious about that."

Although the overwhelming tone of online reactions was in praise of the actor’s recognition by the Academy after a long career in film, several viewers took to Twitter to voice their outrage over the star’s abrupt turn toward politics.

“Tried to watch the Oscars. Was happy for Brad Pitt and then he went political 2 seconds into his acceptance speech," one user wrote.

"I was so happy for Brad Pitt -- then he had to comment about John Bolton not testifying in the Senate - why do these actors think we care about their political opinions," another user wrote.

"I was so happy for #BradPitt and then he got political and ruined the entire deal," a third user noted.

"Stick to being an actor #BradPitt ya just convinced me to not EVER see one of your movies. I wanted to watch an award show not hear about politics or your opinion of it," another user concluded.

No new witnesses were called in Trump’s impeachment trial, in which he was ultimately acquitted by the Senate in a vote across party lines, with the exception of a lone Republican vote to convict coming from Sen. Mitt Romney.

Pitt had been expected to win the category after scooping up a series of honors this year, including at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
