Harvey Weinstein's lawyer says she's never been sexually assaulted 'because I would never put myself in that position' - CNN

In an interview Friday on The Daily podcast, Donna Rotunno, was asked whether she had ever been the victim of a sexual assault.
"I have not because I would never put myself in that position," she said on the New York Times podcast. "I've always made choices from college age on where I never drank too much. I never went home with someone that I didn't know. I just never put myself in any vulnerable circumstances ever."
Donna Rotunno
"Do you believe every woman who's been sexually assaulted somehow put herself in that position -- whether it was having drinks or agreeing to go to a hotel room?" asked New York Times reporter Megan Twohey, co-author of "She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement."
"Absolutely not but just as we make smart decisions when we walk out on the street at night, I think you have to make the same decision when your putting yourself in circumstances with other people," Rotunno added.
"When we walk out at night we look around, we make sure we have our phone, some people take mace. We take precautions. All I'm saying is women should take precautions."
The interview aired one day after the prosecution rested in a trial where six women provided graphic testimony about unwanted sexual attacks and advances by the powerful movie producer whom prosecutors said used his power to prey on young, inexperienced women who were hoping to establish their movie careers.
Weinstein is charged with five counts, including rape, criminal sexual act and predatory sexual assault, which is punishable by up to life in prison. The charges are based on Miriam Haley's testimony that Weinstein forced oral sex on her in 2006 and Jessica Mann's testimony that he raped her twice during an abusive relationship.
Weinstein's defense, led by Rotunno, has argued that the sexual encounters were consensual, and as evidence, they have pointed to friendly messages that the women sent to Weinstein after the alleged attacks.
Weinstein's attorneys closely cross-examined each of the women about what the attorneys say are inconsistencies in their stories.

Harvey Weinstein's lawyer explains how she avoided ever being a sex assault victim - Page Six

Harvey Weinstein’s defense lawyer has never been the victim of a sexual assault — because she “would never put herself in that position,” she said in a new interview.

The question about Donna Rotunno’s personal history was posed to her Thursday on the podcast “The Daily.”

“I have not because I would never put myself in that position,” Rotunno told New York Times reporter Megan Twohey. The reporter — along with her colleague Jodi Kantor — broke the bombshell story exposing the allegations of sexual misconduct against Weinstein.

“So you’re saying that you have never been sexually assaulted because you would never put yourself in the position of being sexually assaulted?”  Twohey asked.

“I’ve always made choices from college-age on where I never drank too much, I never went home with someone I didn’t know, I just never put myself in any vulnerable circumstance ever,” she said.

Twohey followed up by asking if Rotunno believed that every woman who has been sexually assaulted had put themselves in that position. Rotunno quickly backpedaled. “Absolutely not,” she said. “All I’m saying is that women should take precautions.”

The interview comes one day after the defense presented their first witness, Paul Feldsher, a close pal of Weinstein, who bombed on the stand, calling the disgraced producer a “sex addict” with a “voracious appetite” for women. The defense case continues Thursday.

Weinstein is charged with two counts of rape, two counts of predatory sexual assault and one count of criminal sexual act stemming from the allegations of three women. If convicted he faces up to life in prison.

Harvey Weinstein defense witness tanks after facing his messages to mogul - Fox Business

Harvey Weinstein's attorneys are hoping to rebound Friday after a rocky start to their defense, by calling a film director who they hope will dimish the credibility of a rape accuser who acknowledged abusing prescription drugs before the alleged assault.

The first defense witness, an industry executive who remains a Weinstein ally, seemed blindsided on Thursday when a prosecutor confronted him with text messages that appeared to justify Weinstein's behavior and bash his accusers.

HARVEY WEINSTEIN TRIAL MOVES TO DEFENSE AS PROSECUTION RESTS CASE

Paul Feldsher, a former agent who once knew Sciorra, scolded Weinstein in November 2018 for “behaving like a cad.” But in another message shown to the jury, he stuck up for Weinstein, telling him: “I think the dog pile of actresses who are suddenly brave and recalling repressed memories is hideous.”

The defense had hoped Feldsher would discredit Sciorra by recounting a conversation he had with her in the early 1990s in which she supposedly told him she had “done this crazy thing with Harvey” but didn't say she had been assaulted.

“My understanding was that she fooled around with him," he testified.

Feldsher's text messages to Weinstein were from the fall of 2018, and had not been entered as evidence.

HARVEY WEINSTEIN ONCE ADMITTED TO NOT KNOWING WHEN SEX WAS CONSENSUAL

“Did you also say to Harvey Weinstein that your appetite and ambition for the things you want — a script, a movie, and yes, a girl — to put it mildly, is voracious,” lead prosecutor Joan Illuzzi-Orbon probed, according to Page Six.

He responded, "Yes," and grew increasingly rattled as the questions continued, according to the report.

“What I meant by that was Harvey was very dogged in his pursuit of projects and material, etc., etc.,” Feldsher tried to explain. When Illuzzi-Orbon further probed him about his meaning of the word "voracious" with "a girl," he responded, “I meant that it was my understanding for a very long time that Harvey had a sex addiction and that he dated a lot of women."

The prosecution continued with questions about his text messages.

“Then you go on to say, ‘if a lot of these girls had been my daughter, I’d want to beat the s–t out of you.’ Is that right?” Illuzzi-Orbon asked Feldsher.

He responded: "That's correct."

On Friday, the defense team will call Warren Leight, who wrote and directed “The Night We Never Met." The 1993 romantic comedy stars Annabella Sciorra, the actress who testified early in the trial that Weinstein barged into her apartment and raped her in the mid-1990s.

But that isn't Leight's only connection to the case.

Now the “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" showrunner, he wrote a #MeToo-themed episode of the show, based on the Weinstein saga.

In the episode titled "I'm Going to Make You a Star," the head of a big media studio is arrested after he's accused of raping young actresses and forcing one to watch him masturbate at an audition. In a line evoking what accusers have said of Weinstein, the mogul character – who goes by the name "Sir Toby" in the episode – tells a victim: “You want this part, don’t you?”

"I thought, go big," Leight told People magazine after the episode aired in September.

Sciorra, the first of six accusers to take the witness stand earlier in the trial, was friends with Leight and testified that she brought his “The Night We Never Met” script to Weinstein's attention, even staging a reading with her theater company so the once-revered Hollywood honcho could hear it acted out.

Sciorra, now 59, said Weinstein agreed to make the film, but only if she starred in it — something she resisted because she already had back-to-back movie shoots booked and didn't want a third.

To help her cope with the grueling schedule, Sciorra said Weinstein sent her a care package that included a bottle of Valium and that, by the time “The Night We Never Met" started filming, she was hooked on the drug. She said it was around the same time that she started drinking alcohol.

On cross-examination, defense lawyer Donna Rotunno questioned if Sciorra was on Valium or drunk the night she alleges Weinstein raped her. The actress denied both, saying she had weaned herself off the drug by then and didn't have much to drink that night.

WHAT IS HARVEY WEINSTEIN'S ESTIMATED NET WORTH?

“I realized I was addicted to the Valium and I was taking it during the day a lot, at nighttime,” Sciorra testified. “I also knew it wasn't good for me.”

“The Night We Never Met” finished filming in December 1992, according to the Internet Movie Database. Sciorra alleges Weinstein raped her in late 1993 or early 1994 after giving her a ride home from a dinner with people in the film industry.

Rotunno foreshadowed Leight's appearance on the witness stand as she grilled Sciorra about her use of Valium and her behavior on the set of “The Night We Never Met.” At one point, the lawyer asked if Leight ever spoke to her “about the fact you were intoxicated.”

Sciorra said no, but later said, “He might have, I don't recall."

HILLARY CLINTON ON HARVEY WEINSTEIN: 'HOW COULD WE HAVE KNOWN?'

Weinstein is charged with raping a woman in a Manhattan hotel room in March 2013 and forcibly performing oral sex on a different woman in 2006. Sciorra's allegations, too old for criminal charges on their own, are the basis for a charge alleging Weinstein is a serial predator who has committed multiple assaults over the years.

Weinstein, 67, has maintained any sexual encounters were consensual.

HARVEY WEINSTEIN ACCUSER: MOGUL LACKS MALE GENITALIA

His lawyers on Friday are also expected to call to the witness stand cognitive psychologist Elizabeth Loftus, who specializes in human memory. They are looking to raise doubts about the accusers' recollections of encounters that, in some cases, are more than a decade or two old.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

'Birds of Prey' star Margot Robbie on what makes Harley Quinn unique: 'She defies social norms in every way' - Fox News

It's been three and a half years since Margot Robbie made a splash in the world of comic book movies by playing Harley Quinn in "Suicide Squad."

Now, the anti-hero is back and better than ever in "Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)."

The character -- who now embarks on a journey of her own -- stands out for many reasons, but for Robbie, 29, it's the stereotypes the character breaks that make her special.

DISNEY CEO BOB IGER APOLOGIZES TO CALIFORNIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OF 'LION KING' SCREENING FINE

"I think the mere fact that we eliminated a romantic storyline kind of goes against what we're used to or accustomed to seeing in a film when you have a female protagonist," Robbie told Fox News. "I think Harley defies expectations in every way, she defies social norms in every way and that's just part of her [behavior]."

As to whether she thinks people will be upset by the progressiveness of the character, Robbie isn't worried.

"I think people are really responding to something different these days," she said. "I think any time a movie or TV show is seemingly breaking the mold, people seem to respond extremely positively and I think that will happen in this case."

MARGOT ROBBIE STUNS AS HARLEY QUINN FOR ‘BIRDS OF PREY’ TRANSFORMATION

Robbie explained that "Birds of Prey" is "fresh and different," as well as unlike any other comic book film to date.

The two-time Oscar nominee also said that it was "so fun" to play a character as eccentric as Harley Quinn.

A LOOK BACK AT KIRK DOUGLAS' BIGGEST ROLES

"I mean, there is so much to her and she is so unapologetically herself," Robbie said. "She does insane things all the time and that is such a gift as an actor because you have many options and you can behave in erratic and unpredictable ways and you can do the things you can't do in real life."

"She's still very human in her vulnerability and her emotions," the actress said. "That's a great thing for me to tap into and I think for audiences to tap into."

Robbie's co-star Jurnee Smollett-Bell told Fox News that it was "special" to participate in such a female-centric film.

"I think we all were quite aware of the fact we were part of something that hadn't been done before to have an R-rated action, comic book, girl gang movie," said Smollett-Bell, 33. "It felt like: 'Oh wow, this is new and exciting and refreshing,' and honestly, just to come to work with these bad--s chicks, it was just so exciting and unlike anything I've ever been a part of."

In the same interview, Rosie Perez, who also stars in the film, said she felt similarly.

"For me personally, I've always known women could kick a--. I've kicked a few a--es myself in my lifetime,"  said Perez, 55.

Justin Bieber & Quavo Shine Spotlight On Disadvantaged Women & Youth In New Video For ‘Intentions’ - Hollywood Life

A week before going through ‘Changes,’ Justin Bieber decided to show his true ‘Intentions.’ That turned out to be an incredible show of generosity for a transitional residence for women and children in LA!

First, Justin Bieber gave his fans a taste of his new album, and they thought it was “Yummy.” Then, he recruited Kehlani to help tell Beliebers everywhere that they can “Get Me.” Now, one week before Changes is set to drop, Justin, 25, teamed up with Migos’s Quavo to reveal his “Intentions.” In the song and video, both released on Feb. 7, Justin gushes about a special someone — ahem, presumably his wife Hailey Baldwin, 23 — who needs “no filter” and whom Justin wants to “shower” with all his “attention.” Those are his “only intentions” — however, the intentions behind the accompanying music video run much deeper.

Instead of focusing on a love interest in the video, Justin and Quavo shot much of their video at Alexandria House in Los Angeles. It’s a safe space for women and children in “the process of moving from emergency shelter to economic stability and permanent housing,” according to the non-profit organization’s website. The music video also highlights individuals who are struggling for a better education and better path in life. One of the music video’s stars is Bahri, a girl born in Saudi Arabia who is now trying to become the first person in her family to attend college. She has to borrow a car or commute for a total of four-six hours on the bus to attend and return from class, so as a special surprise, Justin surprises the student with a car! Justin kept the generosity rolling by setting up an INTENTIONS Fund for $200,000 to help more women.

The release of “Intentions” comes days after Justin revealed the tracklisting and features of Changes. Actually, Justin “released” the tracklist for Changes on Feb. 4 through an Instagram Filter. The “What Changes Track Are You?” allowed someone to find out just that. It was an exciting way to roll out the names of Changes’ songs but didn’t really clue fans into whether or not Justin would have any more guests on this album. Thankfully, he expanded on the list the following day. Justing tweeted out the song order, along with the features. In addition to the previously mentioned Kehlani and Quavo, Changes will also have appearances by Post Malone and Clever (“Forever”), Lil Dicky (“Running Over”), and Travis Scott (“Second Emotion”).

Justin’s Changes will be, in order: “All Around Me,” “Habitual,” “Come Around Me,” “Intentions,” “Yummy,” “Available,” “Forever,” “Running Over,” “Take It Out On Me,” “Second Emotion,” “Get Me,” “ETA,” “Changes,” “Confirmation,” “That’s What Love Is,” “At Least For Now,” and the Summer Walker remix of “Yummy.” It’s unclear if whether or not “Changes” is an original composition or a cover of either Black Sabbath or David Bowie’s song of the same name, though it’s likely the former.

Justin’s relationship with Post dates back years, back when he was just known as the “White Iverson” rapper. Post and Justin infamously got into a bit of “roughhousing” in 2016. While at a Houston nightclub, Post — who was opening for Justin on his Purpose tour, grabbed Justin by the neck. Justin supposedly put a lit cigarette out on Post’s arm while the “Circles” singer was performing. Post later tweeted, “he’s my big brother and we like to rough house. If we was fighting, someone would have done something instead of just sit around while the Biebs gets choke-slammed. End of story, I love [Justin] more than life.” Justin and Post would later poke fun at the whole incident.

Bieber previously worked with Lil Dicky on the comedy rapper’s “Earth” song. He also teamed up with Quavo on “I’m The One,” the DJ Khaled joint that also featured Lil Wayne and Chance The Rapper. Travis, by the way, was also featured on Purpose. He spat a few verses on Justin’s “No Sense,” so “Second Emotion” is a reunion of sorts.
