‘The Voice’ Season 17’s top four revealed - Yahoo Entertainment

Allow me to not-so-humble-brag for just a moment. I’ve been covering The Voice since it premiered in 2011 (which is longer than all of the coaches, except for Blake Shelton, have stuck with the show). And while there are occasional shockers, I’ve sort of got this prediction thing down to a science by now. This week, I predicted that the top three contestants moving on to next week’s Season 17 finale would be Team Legend’s Katie Kadan, Team Kelly’s Jake Hoot, and Team Blake’s Ricky Duran. And when Carson Daly announced the results Tuesday, the top three were... Katie, Jake, and Ricky.

I also predicted that Team Gwen’s Rose Short would land in the middle-three pack that would sing for the Save, and that Rose would win, thus rounding out the finale’s top four. And I was also correct in this prediction.

However, there were a couple notable developments this Tuesday. All four coaches will be represented in next week’s showdown. This means Gwen Stefani, who only made it to the finale once — way back in Season 9, with Jeffery Austin — finally got another shot at victory, thanks to Rose. Conversely, last season’s winning coach, John Legend, had two-thirds of his team wiped out this week, when Marybeth Byrd and (in the only slight surprise of the night) Will Breman landed in the bottom two and were automatically eliminated. But John certainly still has a great chance at another win, since Katie is far-and-away the best contestant in this top four, and really one of the best contestants in the history of The Voice.

Anyway, in the sing-off that ultimately secured Rose’s advancement — with an impressive 51 percent of the public vote (over Kat’s flat and lackluster “You’ve Got a Friend” and Hello Sunday’s ambitious but uneven “Chandelier”) — the soul diva wisely went with the song that once put current Voice coach Kelly Clarkson the map in 2002. After Kelly belted the the Carole King/Aretha Franklin classic “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” on American Idol Season 1, she went from underdog to frontrunner... and maybe the same thing could now happen for Rose, though Rose will face stiff competition next week, especially from Katie and Kelly’s country crooner Jake.

But — speaking of Team Kelly country crooners — there is hope for Rose, for anyone who does not win next week, and for anyone who didn’t even make the finale. Case in point: On Tuesday’s results show, Kelly joined forces with her former contestant, Kaleb Lee. Kaleb only placed sixth in Season 14, but he just released a duet single featuring Kelly, “I Dream in Southern,” and he just performed it on national TV. Not too shabby! He may end up being the real winner of Season 14. (No dis, of course, to that season’s actual Kelly-coached champion, Brynn Cartelli, whom Kelly has also professionally supported.)

Tune in next week, when we find out who will be the winner of Season 17.

Marie Fredriksson, Roxette singer, has died today at 61 in Sweden - CBS News

Marie Fredriksson, the female half of the Swedish pop duo Roxette, has died, her management agency said Tuesday. She was 61.

Fredriksson formed Roxette with Per Gessle in 1986. The two released their first album the same year and went on to achieve international success in the late 1980s and 1990s with hits including "The Look" and "It Must Have Been Love."

The Dimberg Jernberg agency said Fredriksson died Monday "of the consequences of a long illness."

It "is with great sorrow that we must inform you that one of greatest and most-loved artists is gone," the firm said.

On his Facebook profile, Gessle wrote: "You were an outstanding musician, a master of the voice, an amazing performer."

Time goes by so quickly. It’s not that long ago we spent days and nights in my tiny apartment in Halmstad, listening to...

"I'm proud, honored and happy to have been able to share so much of your time, talent, warmth, generosity and your sense of humour," he wrote in English, adding: "Things will never be the same."

Fredriksson was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2002. She underwent aggressive treatment that took its toll but ultimately was successful, her management agency said. However, she was left blind in one eye, with limited hearing and mobility, and was unable to read or write. She was also unable to speak for a considerable period of time after her treatment. Over the years she was able to make a gradual return to the world stage.

Fredriksson was born in southern Sweden on May 30, 1958, and had her artistic breakthrough in 1984 in Sweden. Two years later, she formed the duo Roxette with Gessle, and in 1989, the pair had their international breakthrough with "The Look."

They achieved international success with their albums "Look Sharp!" in 1988 and "Joyride" in 1991, and had six top two hits on the Billboard Hot 100. The pair sold 80 million records worldwide and embarked on world tours.

They were Sweden's best-known band since ABBA in the 1970s and 1980s, and in 2003, Sweden's Carl Gustaf XVI awarded the duo a royal award. Fredriksson made her first public appearance after her brain tumor operation to receive the honor with Gessle.

Fredriksson is survived by her husband, Mikael Bolyos, and their two children, Josefin and Oscar.

"Marie leaves us a grand musical legacy. Her amazing voice – both strong and sensitive – and her magical live performances will be remembered by all of us who was lucky enough to witness them," her management company said in its statement. "But we also remember a wonderful person with a huge appetite for life, and woman with a very big heart who cared for everybody she met."

Awkwafina was basking in the glow of her first ever Golden Globe award nomination at the "Jumanji: The Next Level" world premiere Monday.

The actress, real name Nora Lum, has been deluged with praise— along with the oddest kudos text she has received since the Monday morning announcement.

"The most unusual congratulations was my aunt texting me, telling me I should eat less grains. I really like ancient grains and she had read an article about grains," said Awkwafina from the red carpet. "And on the back of that (information), she gave me, 'Oh yeah, congratulations!' "

The comedian/actress admitted it's all been like a "surreal" dream since she found about the best actress in a comedy nomination news for her poignant role in Lulu Wang’s "The Farewell" (also nominated for best foreign film).

Awkwafina insists she had slept through the early morning announcements and only found out from the calls afterwards.

"I really didn't know (the nominations) were this morning," she said. "And I ate Korean barbecue last night. A lot of Korean barbecue."

She recovered enough to send out a statement Monday saying she was "beyond grateful."

"I grew up watching the Golden Globes every year, cheering for my favorite films and actors. It is surreal that I now get to go!" she wrote. "Wait, I do get to go right?"

By Monday evening she was a little more mentally recovered, walking the red carpet for the "Jumanji" sequel in which she plays a thief video game character.

"I'm going for the ride," she said of the awards run. "It's just a lot of fun."
