Lizzo "Truth Hurts": Singer-rapper Lizzo files lawsuit to block co-writing credits for hit song "Truth Hurts" - CBS News

Lizzo announced Wednesday that she's sharing writing credit on her hit song "Truth Hurts" with the creator behind the song's signature line. But she also fired back at two other writers who claim they also contributed to the track, and filed a lawsuit that aims to prevent them from obtaining credit.

"Truth Hurts" features the popular line, "I just took a DNA test, turns out I'm 100% that b**ch," which originated from a 2017 tweet by singer Mina Lioness. The tweet eventually became a popular meme.

The line was also used in Lizzo's song "Healthy," which she created in 2017 with songwriting brothers Justin and Jeremiah Raisen. The Raisens said they deserve writing credit on "Truth Hurts" as a result.

Lizzo wrote on social media Wednesday that Lioness "is the person I am sharing my success with ... not these men. Period."

Lizzo also fired back against the Raisens' claims in her Instagram post, writing that the duo "had nothing to do with the line or how I chose to sing it."

"The men who now claim a piece of 'Truth Hurts' did not help me write any part of the song," she wrote. "There was no one in the room when I wrote 'Truth Hurts' except me, Ricky Reed, and my tears. That song is my life, and its words are my truth."

Lizzo's lawyer Cynthia Arato announced Wednesday that a lawsuit has been filed to establish that the Raisens, as well as Justin "Yves" Rothman, are not entitled to any credit for the song. The lawsuit, filed in federal court in California, notes the Raisens "expressly withdrew any claim to 'Truth Hurts,' in writing, in April of this year, and subsequently assured Lizzo, again in writing, that they were making no claims to the work."

In a statement, the Raisens said they are "beyond happy" that Lioness will receive writing credit. But they said they "find it unsettling that they believe our claim is 'unwarranted,' considering the receipts we have which include a musicology report for the song 'Healthy,' which predates 'Truth Hurts.'"

The songwriters credited on "Truth Hurts," which is spending its seventh week at #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, are Lizzo, Ricky Reed, Tele and Jesse Saint John.

"Truth Hurts" was originally released in September 2017. But the song got a boost this year after it was featured in the Netflix film "Someone Great." The film was released on April 19, the same day Lizzo dropped her album, "Cuz I Love You." The song wasn't originally featured on the 11-track "Cuz I Love You," but her record label added it to the deluxe version of the album, which was released on May 3.

"Truth Hurts" was submitted for the 2020 Grammys in categories including song and record of the year. Lizzo is currently selling t-shirts on her website that read "100% that bitch."

This isn't the only time Lizzo has faced controversy over song credits. After the Raisens made their claim, CeCe Peniston wrote on Instagram that Lizzo's "Juice" plagiarizes her classic '90s hit, "Finally," calling it "a clear example of #copyrightinfringement."

Lizzo's publisher, Warner Chappell, fired back against those claims in a statement, Variety reports. "There's no substantial similarity between 'Juice' and 'Finally,' and there's no valid claim there," Chappell wrote.

Selena Gomez returns with new song, music video shot on iPhone 11 Pro - 9to5Mac

Selena Gomez fans have been waiting four years for a new album after Revival, and the singer-songwriter has now released the first song for it — with the music video shot entirely on the iPhone 11 Pro. Back in 2015, when Revival was released, she was one of the most-played artists on Beats 1.

The new song is called Lose You to Love Me, and a clip from it is featured by Apple…

Apple has a one-minute clip from the video on its YouTube channel, promoting it as shot on iPhone 11. You can watch both the clip and the full video below.

Apple also promotes the song on iTunes and Apple Music.

Gomez tweeted that she was beginning her next adventure.

Billboard reports that the upcoming album doesn’t yet have a name.

It’s been four years since Selena Gomez’s 2015 album, Revival, and a new era is finally upon us. The songstress kicked off her yet-to-be-titled upcoming album with the brand-new song “Lose You to Love Me.”

The ballad, which dropped Wednesday (Oct 23), is a characteristically Gomez pop melody with airy vocals and lyrics like, “Rose colored glasses all distorted/ I saw the signs and I ignored it/ I gave my all and they all know it.”

“I have to do a few finishing things with it, but I’m just relieved,” she told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show back in June. “It took me four years now to even feel at a good place with this album, and it’s just because I had such huge moments that happened in my life personally that ‘how was I going to capture that?’ And how was I actually gonna feel good about what I was saying?”

The site reports that the video is shot by award-winning director Sophie Miller, who has shot videos for Annie Lennox, Blur, the Cure, the Eurythmics, Hole, Natalie Merchant, No Doubt, PJ Harvey, Sade, and Sinead O’Connor.

Miller is known for monochrome backgrounds, but an entirely black-and-white video is unusual for her, as she often uses bright colors in the foreground. She once told MVWire that she never plans out her videos ahead of time.

I don’t do storyboards, because if I do one, I can’t be bothered to do the video anymore — its like I have already done it. To me, making videos is really exciting and creative, but if I know what I am going to do, it’s not interesting to me. I like to go into it not quite knowing what is going to happen; then everything is fresh and exciting. Every musician you work with is different, and the way they look at themselves and their work is different. I look at that artist and think, ‘You’re different; what can I do with you that I have not done before?’

The simplicity of this video is its strength. In truth, it’s not a great challenge for the iPhone as it’s a studio-lit shoot; the heavy lifting here is done by the lighting and editing.

Here’s Apple’s cut:

The single is available for purchase on iTunes, and can be streamed on Apple Music.

Selena Gomez Drops New Music and Fans Are Convinced It's All About Justin Bieber - TooFab

As one might expect from social media stans, the moment Selena Gomez dropped new music on Tuesday night, her fans began to pick it apart to try and suss out the meaning, and they think they've got "Lose You to Love Me" cracked.

It's apparently all about Justin Bieber.

The song details a toxic relationship that the narrator (which fans assume is Selena herself) manages to overcome, get through and find herself stronger than ever.

In perhaps the song's most specific line, Selena sings, "In two months you replaced us like it was easy." This was enough to convince her fans she's referring to Justin moving on from her quickly to Hailey Baldwin, whom he subsequently wed.

But they weren't content to stop with actually specific content. At another point, she sings, "Set fire to my purpose and I let it burn." Well, Justin released an album in 2015 called "Purpose." Seem like a bit of a stretch? You clearly haven't seen stans at work.

If the track is about Justin, these are some pretty harsh words. The song opens with savage lines like "Set fires to my forest / And you let it burn / Sang off-key in my chorus / 'Cause it wasn't yours" and "You got off on the hurtin' / When it wasn’t yours."

Selena and Justin have had a storied and tumultuous history in the spotlight, kicking off in early 2011 when they first declared themselves official as a couple at an Oscars party. After a very public romance, Selena then called it quits in 2012, but apparently she just couldn't quit him for good.

They were rumored to be back together in 2013, but it wasn't until the following year that Justin would confirm their on-again/off-again was on again. But by the end of that year, they were off again and Justin was quickly spotted hanging out with Hailey, though he denied any romance in that relationship ... at least not yet.

The pair have been tied to other people throughout the subsequent years, but remains tied together through cryptic encounters and simple fan desire that they find a way to work it out. And after Selena's breakup with The Weeknd, it looked like reconciliation may be in the cards, with the two spending more time together publicly.

So in truth, they were never officially on again in recent years, so there may be no toxic relationship to reference, and certainly no "two month" timeframe for him to replace her. But don't tell that to the stans.

They've been shipping this couple for a decade now, so now that Justin is off the market and married to Hailey, this may be just the form of therapy they need to allow themselves and Selena to move on. And if it is about Justin, well Selena apparently needed some musical therapy, too.

Check it out in the clip above and see if you think Selena is singing about anyone in particular. She's certainly giving a passionate and personal performance in the stark and powerful black-and-white imagery.

Then check out how her fans are interpreting the new track below. She even got some love from bestie Taylor Swift, who praised the song on her Intagrams stories, writing, "This song is a perfect expression of healing and my absolute favorite song she’s put out yet."

The Morning After: A final trailer for 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' - Engadget

'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' Disney

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

It's Tuesday, and we're approaching the holiday season with verdicts on the Pixel 4 and the Surface Pro 7, both of which get a mixed reception. There's also a new Star Wars trailer, so make sure to watch through that before you bump into colleagues over coffee.

These new models are about more than just clean software and good cameras.Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL review: A slightly flawed taste of the future

The Pixel 4 series, on the whole, packs enough new tricks and advances to excite even wary Pixel fans. It's fast, thoughtful and benefits from additions like a big 90Hz screen and the ambitious MotionSense system -- when it works correctly, that is. Beyond all that, though, the Pixel 4 XL's real draw is its bigger battery. Conversely, the standard Pixel 4's battery life is a major concern. If you're enthusiastic about Google's new additions and don't mind a bigger phone, the Pixel 4 XL is clearly the model to invest in.

The best 2-in-1 PC gets a tiny bit better. But also a bit worse.Surface Pro 7 review: USB-C upgrade, battery downgrade

Microsoft's new Surface Pro 7 is pretty much the same as the Surface Pro 6, with one important difference: USB-C. You'll also get improved performance and microphones, but at the expense of battery life -- and that could be a deal breaker for a lot of you. Reviews Editor Cherlynn Low says the Pro 7 is a good hybrid PC, especially for those who've been waiting for the new port, but it's otherwise not worth spending $750 to upgrade.

Who can you trust?Sunday Riley settles with FTC over fraudulent skincare reviews

Skincare maker Sunday Riley has settled with the FTC over reports that it ordered employees to post fake reviews on Sephora's website in a bid to boost sales. Managers and Sunday Riley herself reportedly created fake accounts to post reviews for the pricey products between 2015 and 2017, and urged employees to do the same. They also asked staff to dislike negative reviews to get them pulled, according to the FTC, and even resorted to using VPNs to mask their identities after Sephora spotted earlier fake reviews.

Who needs a new tablet?Amazon's Fire tablets and Kindles are on sale for everyone

The Fire 7 was cheap to begin with, and with $10 off (now $40), it's a bargain. If you're looking for a larger screen and a longer-lasting battery, there's also $20 off the bigger Fire 8 (now $60). The most recent Kindle model comes with a built-in front light for reading in the dark and is $25 off (now $65), while the Kindle Paperwhite, with a glare-free display and super-sharp text, is down by $40 (now $90).

Gorgeously soft looking. The Big Picture: A star died violently and left behind this 'fluffy' ball

Stars die all the time, but the untimely passing of SN 1572, also known as Tycho's Supernova, is possibly the most famous. That's because it's relatively close to us in the Milky Way's Cassiopeia constellation, so when it exploded in 1572, it became the second-brightest object in the night sky for a time. Recently, NASA took another look at SN 1572 using the 20-year-old, still-functioning Chandra X-ray Observatory. Scientists were keen to figure out what caused the lumpy knots and threads that make it look like a giant dust bunny.

But wait, there's more...
