Prince Harry, Meghan and Archie arrive in Cape Town for first leg of their Africa tour - CNN

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle touch down in Cape Town, they will be landing in an unequal city in the world’s most unequal country.

There is the Cape Town the world knows: Table Mountain; the wineries; the spectacular beaches. And then there is the other side of Cape Town, where murder rates are high and gang violence grips communities.

“They are holding the community hostage," said Abdul Waheem Martin, the leader of an ambulance crew that services the Cape Flats.

"If you are looking at these areas, every person’s house has got burglar bars on the inside and on the outside – their homes look like a prison cell. These people are scared."

The South African Apartheid government created the "Flats," as they are commonly known, when it forced non-white South Africans out of large areas of the city center and its suburbs.

The royal couple will visit some of these areas, where security is such a concern to the organizers that even journalists covering the event won’t know where they are headed until the last minute.

Crime is so endemic here that even ambulance crews were attacked and robbed more than 80 times in 2018. Martin and his team now need police escorts to enter so-called "red zones" – even if it means patients will die because of the wait.

“It is frustrating – the guys get restless sitting here. Because we know that there is someone that seriously needs our immediate medical attention and unfortunately because of the situation we can’t get to the patient quick enough,” said Martin.

Teenager Naasief died in 2016, shot as he stood outside a store near his home in the township.

“He was my pillar of strength. He was my blessing,” says his mother, Shannaz.

Shannaz and other mothers who have lost sons to violence in the "Flats" say the gangs present young kids with an awful choice.

“In most cases the children don’t want to be in a situation. But they are forced to be in a situation. You get killed or you must go kill,” she said.

The royals visit Cape Town - CapeTown ETC

Prince Harry and wife Meghan’s official Africa tour begins today in the Mother City. Joined by baby Archie, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to visit South Africa, Botswana, Angola and Malawi during their 10 day, four-country tour of Africa.

“This will be Their Royal Highnesses’ first official tour as a family. Not only will this visit serve as an opportunity for the duke and duchess to highlight many of the causes they have been involved with for many years, it will demonstrate a modern U.K.-Africa partnership in action,” said Nigel Casey, British High Commissioner to South Africa at a media briefing, cited by Hapaars Bazaar.

Their schedule focuses heavily on community engagement and grassroots leadership and will be on causes close to their hearts such as the HIV/AIDS epidemic, mental health, women’s/girl’s rights and the environment.

The family will tour South Africa together for three days before Prince Harry travels to Botswana, Angola and Malawi alone to continue engagements. Meghan will continue attending activities in South Africa. Prince Harry will then reunite with his family in Johannesburg on October 2 for the last day of the tour.

Their first day kicks off today, September 23. They are expected to attend a workshop focusing on teaching children about their rights, self awareness, self-defence, female empowerment and training. They will then tour District Six museum before meeting with former community members to participate in a cooking activity.

Day Two, September 24, will see the couple visit the Khayelitsha branch of Waves for Change, a child-friendly mental health service to vulnerable and differently-abled youth living in under-resourced communities. They will also see the work of The Lunchbox Fund, a non-profit organisation providing a daily meal for orphaned and vulnerable school children in township and rural areas of South Africa. This fund is one of the four charities the Duke and Duchess invited the public to donate to in honour of baby Archie’s birth.

Prince Harry will then join the City of Cape Town marine unit and travel by boat from Kalk Bay to Seal Island, before the couple visits Bo Kaap to meet with faith leaders at the Auwal mosque. They will enjoy tea at a residents home before ending the busy day with a reception at the British high commissioner’s Bishopscourt home.

Day Three, September 25, will have the couple meeting with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his wife Leah at their legacy foundation in Cape Town city centre. Prince Harry will then leave for Botswana while Meghan meets with female entrepreneurs and investors working in technology at the Woodstock Exchange.

On September 26, Meghan will attend a private “women in public service” breakfast at the high commission in Cape Town.

The Duke will continue his tour throughout Africa whilst Meghan travels to Johannesburg and continues engagements for the remainder of the tour.

Celebrity chef Carl Ruiz dead at 44 - UPI News

Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Television celebrity chef Carl Ruiz has died, according to his Manhattan restaurant La Cubana. He was 44.

"On behalf of the La Cubana family, with heavy hearts, we are deeply saddened to share the passing of our beloved Executive Chef Carl Ruiz," La Cubana said on Instagram. "No words can fully express our sadness at the sudden loss of our dear friend and brother."

The restaurant did not mention a cause of death.

During his 25 years in the restaurant industry, Ruiz opened restaurants the world over and gained celebrity status following frequent guest appearances on The Food Network as a competitive chef and celebrity judge, according to his biography posted on La Cubana.

The restaurant said he had a larger-than-life personality and a "fierce intellect" and was "a mighty force of down home Cuban cuisine, and lived life to the fullest, just as he cooked."

The restaurant said to honor his memory, it would establish The Carl Ruiz Scholarship Foundation for aspiring chefs.

"You are already missed," the restaurant said. "Rest easy."

As news of Ruiz's death traveled through the restaurant scene, his friends took to social media in mourning.

Restaurateur Guy Fieri said he was "heartbroken that my friend chef Carl Ruiz is gone."

"I have no words to describe what a great friend he was to me and my family," Fieri said via Twitter. "His ability to make me laugh and smile under any circumstances was only outshined by his talent as a chef."

Celebrity chef Jet Tila posted pictures of himself with Ruiz on Twitter, saying the Cuban-American chef taught him "to enjoy every moment to the fullest and not live wondering what if!"

"I will always be Ruizing," he said, adding a note of thanks to Fieri for having introduced him to Ruiz.

Alex Guarnaschelli, chef, author and host of The Food Network's Supermarket Stakeout, described Ruiz as fatherly, comforting, reckless and wise.

"My life will be lonelier without him," she said. "Love you Carl. I'll make sure no one puts pineapple on pizza best I can without you here."

'Friends' 25th anniversary: See the cast over the years - Fox News

Still there for you! A quarter of a century later, the impact the beloved TV show "Friends" has left is still celebrated.

It's hard to believe that the show first went on air on Sept. 22, 1994. Throughout the 10-season run, fans watched characters Monica, Rachel, Ross, Phoebe, Chandler and Joey settle into living in New York City and deal with relationship and career drama.

After the show wrapped, the cast members each went their own way in the acting industry.

Here's what they have been up to since "Friends" aired its final episode:

The 54-year-old actress has appeared in many standout roles since her time as Monica Geller, who was notoriously known as the OCD clean-freak and chef of the Friends group.

Post-Friends, Cox is best known for her roles in the "Scream" series and "Cougar Town" on ABC and TBS, which lasted for six seasons.

In her personal life, she married and divorced David Arquette, with whom she has a daughter. She is currently with partner John McDaid, a member of Snow Patrol. In 2014, the couple became engaged. However, she revealed back in January that she and McDaid are no longer engaged, but are still together.

Best known for his and Rachel Green's tumultuous hot and cold relationship, Ross Geller was a staple of the 90s series. Since his time on the show, Schwimmer, 52, has gone on to be a director and producer.

DAVID SCHWIMMER: BEING A CELEBRITY MADE ME WANT TO 'HIDE'

He has starred in the 2005 film "Duane Hopwood," and was the voice-over actor for Melman in Madagascar (2005). In 2007, Schwimmer made his directorial debut with the British comedy film, "Run Fatboy Run."

He has spent some time on Broadway, as well as on television since "Friends" ended.

Schwimmer is father of an 8-year-old daughter, Cleo, whom he shares with ex-wife, Zoë Buckman. He is also a member of the Rape Treatment Center's board of directors’ executive leadership committee, located in Santa Monica, Calif.

Matthew Perry

"Chandl-ah" Bing, as his on-screen ex-wife Carol would call him, never failed to make audiences laugh with his shenanigans on the show. His comic efforts earned him a 2002 Emmy nomination for his role in the NBC series.

Perry, 50, introduced himself to a new generation of fans after the release of "17 Again" (2009), in which he played the adult version of Zac Efron's character. He has also appeared in several television series: "Mr. Sunshine," "The Good Wife" and "The Odd Couple" and has been an executive producer for several TV shows, including "Go On" and "The End of Steve."

After a public battle with a prescription drug addiction, the actor lost a drastic amount of weight and checked into rehab in 1997. Since then, he has been focusing on his recovery from addiction.

Kudrow, 56, was the first "Friends" cast member who earned herself an Emmy in 1998 for her role as kooky and lovable Phoebe Buffay.

The "Smelly Cat" singer landed roles in movies such as "P.S. I Love You," "Easy A," "Neighbors," "The Girl on the Train" and "Booksmart." She also has been the voice behind characters on "BoJack Jorseman" and "The Boss Baby." Most recently, she has appeared as Sheree on "Grace and Frankie."

The actress recently revealed her struggles with self-confidence during the "Friends" era on Kevin Nealon's YouTube show, “Hiking with Kevin.”

“I [felt] like, ‘S--t, I tricked [the producers],’” she stated. “At the audition, I was the only one who could cope with the audition process and that’s how I got it, I think. So I had to work hard at being Phoebe, you know.”

Off-screen, Kudrow is a devoted wife to French advertising executive, Michel Stern, 61, and doting mother to Julius Murray Stern, 21.

Matthew LeBlanc

How you doin' Joey?

LeBlanc's role as Joey Tribbiani, got him three consecutive Emmy nominations for Best Actor in a Comedy Series, as well as a spin-off sitcom, "Joey," that aired on NBC for two seasons until it was canceled in 2006.

LeBlanc, 52, began to focus on his career behind the scenes after the NBC series ended. His production company, Fort Hill Productions, co-produced "The Prince" (2006).

His continued TV success post-Friends included his Showtime series, "Episodes" (2011-2017), which earned him a Golden Globe for best performance by an actor in a comedy or musical television series, and his current CBS sitcom, "Man With a Plan," which was recently renewed for a fourth season.

The actor shares a daughter, Marina Pearl, with ex Melissa McKnight, whom he divorced in 2006. Marina was diagnosed with a debilitating brain condition at 11 months, but miraculously outgrew it.

Even though "Friends" is over, fans are still hoping stars Aniston, Schwimmer, Perry, Kudrow, Cox and LeBlanc will reunite for a reboot.

However, co-creator and executive producer Marta Kauffman shut down the rumors, saying a continuation of the series is "not going to beat what we did.”

Cox, who seems to have felt the same, told Us Weekly her feelings about a reboot in 2018.

“People ask us all the time would we ever do a remake and that was a story about this group of people, they were friends in their 30s and they were finding themselves and I think there’s really … I don’t know that there’s a way to redo it,” she responded about a potential revival of the show.

“It’s not like the other shows that have done reboots and are doing so well. I just don’t see it happening even though I would do anything to be in a room with all of those people acting, having a great time — but I just don’t see it happening,” she admitted.

Box Office: Genteel “Downton Abbey” Takes Brad Pitt's “Ad Astra” and Stallone's “Rambo,” Gives Studio Highest Debut Ever - Showbiz411

Home Movies Box Office: Genteel “Downton Abbey” Takes Brad Pitt’s “Ad Astra” and Stallone’s...

Gentility and peak TV won the day at the box office Friday, and should command the weekend as well.

Julian Fellowes’ delightful “Downton Abbey” transfer to the big screen knocked out both Brad Pitt’s “Ad Astra” and Sylvester Stallone’s “Rambo: First Blood” last night. Including Thursday previews, the Crawley family and their friends are the big box office winners today.

This means that Focus Features, the literary end of Universal Pictures, will have its biggest opening weekend ever with $31 million. This is quite an achievement. It’s due to Universal being under the same roof as NBC, which also owns Carnival Productions, the company that made the hit TV series broadcast here on PBS. Imagine if NBC had broadcast “Downton.”

On Thursday night, “Downton” easily took “Ad Astra” and “Rambo” in previews. This isn’t to say anything negative about “As Astra,” a gorgeous film with a sensitive lead performance from Pitt.

But “Downton” has its huge, devoted fan base as a foundation. And then, it’s really a lovely film, so well written, directed, and acted, you’re ready to see it again. And I’m pretty sure fans will do exactly that. Word of mouth should be excellent.

As Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) and I joked at the splendid premiere this past week at the Plaza Hotel, “Downton Abbey” could become like the “Avengers” series, with 11 episodes! But really, we can expect a sequel or two definitely. Smartly, Fellowes has left the door open for Maggie Smith to return as the Dowager Countess even though she suggests that this is her last rodeo.

It should be noted too that “Downton Abbey” had the lowest theater count of the three movies in competition.

Friday numbers including Thursday previews: “Downton” $13.8 million, “Ad Astra” $7 million, “Rambo”–$7.1 million. The latter two are basically tied.

T.I. Thinks 6ix9ine Will Be Welcomed in the Hood When He's Released From Jail - XXLMAG.COM

After 6ix9ine's testimony in the case of two accused Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang members earlier this week, which includes making statements about the alleged gang status of rappers like Trippie Redd, Casanova, Jim Jones and Cardi B, protective custody on some secret outpost on Mars might be a smart option for the rapper who will no doubt be the target of animosity for assisting authorities. However, T.I. thinks Tekashi will be welcomed with open arms when he gets released.

Tip recently sat down for an interview with Big Boy of Real 92.3, which was published on Friday (Sept. 20), when the topic of the disgraced Brooklyn rhymer came up. "He can't go back to the hood after snitching," the co-host asserted.

"Yes he can," Tip countered around the 54 minute mark. "It's a bunch of rats walking 'round right now. And that's the thing that really hurts. They riding 'round with somebody they know done told in they hood right now, because, 'Well, he didn't tell on me.' This cat can come home and throw parties and the parties be popping. It be full. If muthafuckas don't fuck with rats, how the hell is this party so packed? And everybody know how cous' came home. Everybody know what happened."

Tekashi has had the internet going nuts as he took the stand multiple times this week and testified against former associates Aljermiah "Nuke" Mack and Anthony "Harv" Ellison as part of his plea agreement in a racketeering case. On top of that, he mentioned seemingly unrelated rappers' ties to alleged crimes as well. It is yet to be determined what type of reduced sentencing he will receive for his cooperation.
