Prince William and Kate Middleton 'Barely Knew' Meghan Markle Before the Royal Wedding, Royal Expert Says - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Reports have long alleged that problems between Prince William and Prince Harry first arose around the time the Duke of Sussex proposed to Meghan Markle. Prince William reportedly did not support the engagement, telling his brother that things were moving too quickly.

While Prince William has faced criticism for the alleged comments, he reportedly had a good reason for making them. A royal expert said in a new documentary that Prince William and Middleton barely knew Markle — because Prince Harry barely knew her.

More on what the royal expert said

Ingrid Seward, a royal expert, and editor of Majesty Magazine, opened up in the documentary, William & Harry: Princes At War.

Seward claimed that the lightning-quick November 2017 engagement simply shocked the Cambridges. After all, it came just 16 months after Prince Harry and Markle began dating. (Prince William and Middleton dated for about eight years before they tied the knot.) So, Prince William apparently wasn’t trying to be mean. He reportedly just wanted to make sure Prince Harry was making the right decision.

“It was all so quick that William and Kate didn’t have a moment to get to know Meghan because Harry hardly knew Meghan,” Ingrid Seward said in the documentary (via The Sun).

“And of course William and Kate would have quite naturally thought, ‘Oh she’s been married before, she’s older than Harry, I hope she’s going to make him happy.’ Anyone would think that,” Seward continued.

Markle and producer Trevor Engelson were married from 2011 to 2013. They dated for over eight years before they decided to call it quits. Meghan filed for divorce in August of 2013, citing irreconcilable differences.

Prince Harry’s reported reaction to his brother was not happy

According to People, Prince William’s comments made Prince Harry feel “angry and hurt.” The Daily Mail adds those emotions later boiled over, and Prince Harry accused the Cambridges of “not supporting his bride enough” ahead of their May 2018 wedding.

The speech reportedly stunned Prince William and Middleton. In response, the Cambridges reportedly “assured Harry they were happy to offer his wife more support.”

Middleton reportedly followed up by bringing the couple flowers, and she and Markle also went on to attend Wimbledon together.

How they’re doing now

Reports say that the foursome is doing a lot better now that they live separately. Royal insiders told People in July that the distance is “allowing them more time to be like family.”

“They all know what’s at stake, and William and Harry know that their grandmother [Queen Elizabeth] in particular needs them to be on the same page,” sources continued.

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor has helped bring them together, too

Vanity Fair reported in July that the brothers’ relationship is “much better” following Archie’s arrival.

Meanwhile, a source told HELLO! Magazine (via The Daily Mail) that things are just as cool between Middleton and Markle.

“Kate was a great source of support to Meghan in the days leading up to Archie’s birth. Despite reports of a rift, they are family and have a really lovely friendship. Their relationship has certainly evolved over time and they have become closer since Meghan’s wedding,” the insider said.

“They talk and text regularly. They have more in common, and Kate has wanted to make sure Meghan has felt welcome into the family,” the insider continued.

We’re glad to hear it. Let’s cross our fingers and hope that things stay this way.

Guitar sells for $1.25 M - Entertainment News - Castanet.net

Fans of Duane Allman in Macon, Georgia, say they didn't expect the late musician's old guitar to sell for $1.25 million at a recent auction.

The Telegraph reports that the gold-topped guitar is the one Allman played in the hit song "Layla."

Until recently, the guitar affectionately called "Layla" had been on display at the Allman Brothers Band museum at The Big House in Macon.

Museum Director Richard Brent says the man who bought the guitar at the auction is an out-of-town collector who wishes to remain anonymous.

Brent said the buyer has agreed to share the instrument with the museum during certain times. That means it will be coming back to the museum in late November.

Weekend Box Office: Good Boys Surprises with #1 Debut - Collider.com

While Us scored Universal Pictures the only #1 box office debut for an original film in earlier this year, the studio can now boast they’ve accomplished this feat twice in 2019. The original R-rated comedy Good Boys opened in first place at the box office this weekend with an impressive $21 million opening weekend, giving the comedy genre a much needed boost after films like Stuber, Long Shot, and Late Night were D.O.A. It also scored the second biggest opening weekend for a comedy in 2019 so far, right behind A Madea Family Funeral’s $27 million bow.

Comedies have been dying on the vine this year, both in terms of traditional two-handers and blockbuster comedy-actioners like Men in Black: International. My gut tells me Good Boys just enjoyed being the right movie at the right time—there’s not a ton out to see right now, and the marketing was pretty perfect in selling it as an earnest, pre-teen Superbad. There’s not much left on the calendar this year in terms of traditional comedies, but perhaps Jojo Rabbit, Zombieland: Double Tap, or Super Intelligence will continue the Good Boys streak.

Universal also scored the second slot at the box office this weekend, as the Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw pulled in another $14.1 million and surpassed $400 million worldwide. Many analysts had Hobbs & Shaw winning the weekend, so Good Boys’s performance is a pleasant surprise all around.

Aside from Good Boys, however, it was very bad news for new releases. The animated sequel The Angry Birds Movie 2 pulled in $10.5 million, which is significantly lower than the $38 million opening weekend of the first movie even though the sequel garnered far higher critical praise. New Line’s critically acclaimed (and genuinely great) Blinded by the Light bombed with $4.1 million despite a stellar A- CinemaScore—so consider this your official suggestion to see this movie in theaters before you regret not taking the plunge. The Cate Blanchette-fronted Where’d You Go Bernadette, meanwhile, pulled in a mere $3.5 million, making it one of the lowest grossing wide debuts of Richard Linklater’s career.

The shark sequel 47 Meters Down: Uncaged didn’t fare quite as terribly as some expected, pulling in $9 million versus the original film’s $11.2 million debut. The CinemaScore, however, was a C+, suggesting opening weekend audiences weren’t particular fond of the movie.

In terms of holdovers, Disney’s The Lion King is officially one of the biggest movies ever made. Its worldwide total of $1.435 billion has now surpassed Avengers: Age of Ultron to secure the #9 slot on the all-time worldwide list, and it remains the highest grossing Disney Live Action movie ever made—with Disney Live Action referring to Disney-produced live-action films, and not Disney-owned live-action films like Marvel or Star Wars.

Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, meanwhile, continues to hold well, dropping only 34% from last weekend. The lengthy R-rated film’s international rollout is currently underway, and its worldwide total stands at $122 million.

Check out the full weekend estimates below.

Rank Title Friday Total
1. Good Boys $21,000,000 $21,000,000
2. Hobbs & Shaw $14,140,000 $133,741,600
3. The Lion King $11,900,000 $496,107,985
4. The Angry Birds Movie 2 $10,500,000 $16,237,146

6. 47 Meters Down: Uncaged $9,000,000 $9,000,000
7. Dora and the Lost City of Gold $8,500,000 $33,909,724

Miley Cyrus Debuts Her New Song, 'Slide Away,' and Fans Are Living For It - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Fans just can’t get enough of Miley Cyrus and her music. After the success of her EP, entitled She is Coming, and its song, “Mother’s Daughter,” the artist premiered a new single. Some think this song, “Slide Away” is about her relationship and her recent break from Liam Hemsworth. Learn more about Cyrus’ music here.

Miley Cyrus premiered her new song, ‘Slide Away,’ on Aug. 16, 2019

She appeared in an episode of Black Mirror and recently released her EP, entitled She Is Coming. Now, Miley Cyrus is back with a new single, “Slide Away,” and the news of her break from her husband, Liam Hemsworth.

Within a few days of its premiere, the video for “Slide Away” earned over 4 million views on YouTube and earned a spot of the website’s trending list. The song has over 3 million plays on Spotify. On social media, fans commended the artist for her new song, some saying it offers a glimpse into her relationship with actor Liam Hemsworth.

Some fans think the song is about her relationship with Liam Hemsworth

Fans noticed a few references to the beach in Miley Cyrus’ music and her life. In her song “Malibu,” Miley Cyrus discussed how she never saw the ocean as a child but found an appreciation for the beach inadvertently because of her relationship with Liam Hemsworth.

In this new song, “Slide Away,” she says that the subject of the song will slide away back to the ocean, while she’ll move back into the city. Another clue that this song is about Liam Hemsworth is due to the lyrics, “Move on; we’re not 17 / I’m not who I used to be.” Fans on Twitter took notice of these hints.

“Miley and Liam met on the set of The Last Song, a beach film. When she and him got back together, she released ‘Malibu,’ a beach track and video and now she’s telling Liam to slide away back to the ocean. She’s officially done,” said one Twitter user.

“I’m telling y’all, don’t listen to Miley Cyrus’ ‘Malibu’ and ‘Slide Away’ after each other,” said another Twitter user. “You’re just gonna end up breaking your own heart. I still can’t believe that they’re over.”

Fans support Miley Cyrus and her growth away from Liam Hemsworth

Although surprising, according to People, the split of the two celebrities was mutual. The statement reads, “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”

Fans were supportive of Miley Cyrus’ growth and her artistic expression via “Slide Away.” One listener tweeted the artist, “the song is amazing. We are all so proud of you. Love you always.”

Miley Cyrus’ song, “Slide Away,” is available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, and most major music platforms.

‘Mindhunter’ Review: Season 2 Is a Magnum Opus on White Guilt - IndieWire

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Mindhunter” Season 2, including the ending.]

While fully utilizing David Fincher’s icy aesthetic and featuring just enough creepy prison visits to satiate expectations, “Mindhunter” makes a lot of savvy changes in Season 2. Most noticeable (and necessary) is a protagonist switch, as Holt McCallany’s endearing buzzcut of a cop, Bill Tench, takes center stage over the single-minded know-it-all Holden Ford, played with a curiosity-invoking detachment by Jonathon Groff. That early shift sets up more to come, as the research-based behavioral analysis seen in Season 1 gets pushed into early field testing in Season 2. The BTK Killer (Sonny Valicenti) looms over the series yet again — like a big bad in training who, instead of lifting weights or recruiting an army, practices autoerotic asphyxiation in a doll mask — but these nine episodes examine how public scrutiny and systemic political issues can tarnish noble intentions.

Or, in a nutshell, “Mindhunter” Season 2 is about how white cops’ racial blindspots legitimized racial profiling on a national level. And, despite seeing another story of black tragedy told from a white perspective, it’s very, very good.

How Holden Changes From Troublesome Lead to Critical Support

The season starts with a bit of an unnecessary fake-out. After an unsettling encounter with Ed Kemper (Cameron Britton), Holden is first shown waking up in a hospital, his hands and feet restrained as doctors rush in to put him back under sedation. It appears his panic attack is more than a panic attack — like it could be a full-on nervous breakdown, or worse — but then it turns out to be just a series of panic attacks. “Mindhunter” never really comes back to this after the first few episodes, though one could argue Holden’s journey in Season 2 is the same as Season 1, sans the dramatic breakdown: He stubbornly implements his policy, follows it through to a “successful” close, and then is forced to reckon with the moral collapse of what he’s done.

So how did he end up making the same mistakes all over again? Well, this time, the system has his back! Instead of hiding his work from the suspicious upper echelons of the FBI, Holden’s behavioral analysis is buoyed by a new director. Ted Gunn (Michael Cerveris) comes over from D.C.’s public affairs division and sees the sexy intrigue in Holden and Tench’s work as a way to give the FBI an image makeover; if these advanced methods can catch multiple murderers (aka serial killers), then the FBI could be called in to assist on a slew of high-profile cases and gain national recognition as the most powerful, state-of-the-art law enforcement in the country.

At first, Holden and Tench are all for the increased resources and exposure. It’s what Holden has been pushing for since the start, but soon the added red tape and public scrutiny starts to weigh on him. While Tench is off glad-handing government power players, regaling them with stories of interviewing Charles Manson (Damon Herriman), Holden is trying to apply their psychological profiling to catch the Atlanta Child Murderer. After being recruited to help by a desperate hotel clerk, Tanya Clifton (Sierra McClain), Holden meets a group of mothers who are leading their own investigation into their children’s killings or disappearances because the local police won’t listen.

Holden, being the stand-up opportunist he is, sees the connections between the dozen-or-so children and seizes it as chance to do some good in the real world. He and Tench are deployed to Atlanta, working alongside a local police force to put an end to the growing body count, but there’s a lot of media attention on this case. That means the mayor is watching, the police chief doesn’t want to give up control, and the local cops across several counties have to come together to support several leaders with differing ideas.

The Atlanta Child Murders

MINDHUNTER

Now, a lot of the problems in this scenario (based on the 1979-1981 Atlanta Child Murders) should sound familiar to modern audiences: a predominantly white police force clashing with a predominantly black community. Sure, the mayor and police chief are black, but this is Georgia in the late ’70s, and no one should be surprised to hear that some officers not only have ties to the Ku Klux Klan, but are active members. So a rightly frustrated and scared African-American population doesn’t want to hear about Holden’s research that contends the killer is a black man between 20-30 years old — the cops in town are already out to get black men and letting the KKK run rampant.

Holden (being Holden) doesn’t really care about the sensitivity of public discourse. He wants to catch the killer, and everything he learns says the killer is a black man. In a smart, insular critique of his blindspots, the holes in Holden’s theory are routinely poked at by black cops and citizens. Agent Jim Barney (Albert Jones), who gets an expanded role in Season 2, tells Holden why the results of field experiments with black kids in inner-city Baltimore aren’t necessarily relevant to black kids in suburban Atlanta — Holden just sees black kids, but Jim sees different people.

Though Fincher directs the first three episodes and Andrew Dominik takes on two more, Carl Franklin (“Devil in a Blue Dress,” “The Leftovers”) handles the last four and drives home the white police force’s embarrassing behavior with a slew of haunting imagery. Most notably, there’s a scene where Holden becomes obsessed with the idea that the killer will return to the scene of his crimes if enough attention is given to those sites. He decides to plant two tall, white crosses along a memorial parade route and asks the mothers who organized it to stop at each cross for a moment of silence. But when the process of ordering the crosses gets tied up in red tape, Holden has to race through the parade, carrying a bright white cross on his back while the silent marchers watch his exhaustive efforts with disinterest. By the time he gets a cross to the top of the church steps, the walkers have almost caught up to him, and their leader, Camille Bell (June Carryl), just stops and stares at the foolish white savior disrespecting the pure, healing intentions of her march.

Miley Cyrus Kaitlynn Carter with mum Tish amid Liam Hemsworth split - Metro.co.uk

Miley Cyrus and Kaitlynn Carter have been spending time with Miley’s mum Tish in the wake of her split from Liam Hemsworth.

The pair are said to be supporting each other through their recent break-ups, as Kaitlynn has also split from husband Brody Jenner.

Tish got in on the act when she met up with them both in West Hollywood on Saturday.

The three of them were spotted together in a car, with Miley and Tish in the front and Kaitlynn in the back.

Miley and Tish, who was wearing large dark sunglasses, appeared to have a chat in the vehicle with the 26-year-old listening intently to her mum’s words.

The Nothing Breaks Like A Heart singer wore her hair loose and seemed to be wearing minimal makeup.

Everyone seemed relaxed in each other’s company as they all hopped out of the car together for lunch.

Miley and Kailtlynn, 30, who were spotted kissing on an Italian holiday after it was confirmed she and Liam had split, are reportedly ‘enjoying their time together’.

A source told Entertainment Tonight: ‘Really, only time will tell if Miley and Kaitlynn will last, but right now they are being a support for one another during a tough time and enjoying their time together.’

Friday Box Office: 'Good Boys' Impresses with $8.3 Million Launch - Collider.com

In a bit of a surprising development, the R-rated comedy Good Boys is performing well above expectations at the box office, pulling in an impressive $8.3 million on Friday. Projections have the Universal Pictures film topping over $20 million for the weekend, which is well above the $11 million to $12 million range most expected. That’s much higher than the $6 million opening for the critically acclaimed Booksmart, $8 million for the Dave BautistaKumail Nanjiani comedy Stuber, and even higher than the $15 million opening for Little earlier this year. 2019 has been plagued with underperforming comedies, but it appears that Universal has a genuine breakout with Good Boys.

The extremely R-rated film boasts Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg as producers, with The Office alums Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky in the director’s chair and an ensemble of pre-teen boys led by Jacob Tremblay. The trailers were funny, the marketing was solid, but as we’ve seen time and again this year that that doesn’t necessarily guarantee people will show up. So for whatever reason, something about Good Boys (and perhaps the lackluster offerings in August) sparked folks to turn out for Good Boys.

Elsewhere for new releases, however, the news is dismal. The Angry Birds Movie 2 pulled in just $2.7 million on Friday and is projected to earn just $8 million for the weekend. Despite far better reviews this time around, that’s bad news for the animated sequel. The indie shark sequel 47 Meters Down: Uncaged pulled in $3.1 million on Friday and is heading for a weekend debut near $7 million.

New Line’s terrific feel-good film Blinded by the Light—which debuted to positive reviews at Sundance earlier this year—pulled in just $1.3 million on Friday and is heading for a weekend total near $4 million. Ditto to Richard Linklater’s long-delayed Where’d You Go Bernadette, which pulled in just $1.2 million on Friday after receiving mostly negative or mixed reviews. I can’t speak for Bernadette, but I wholeheartedly recommend seeing Blinded by the Light in the theater. It’s pretty much guaranteed to make your day better.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark added $3 million on Friday, and hopefully audiences find this one as the Guillermo del Toro-produced adaptation is a delightful fright fest and future Halloween classic.

Look for full weekend estimates tomorrow. For now, check out the Friday box office estimates below.

Rank Title Friday Domestic Total
1. Good Boys $8,310,000 $8,310,000
