A$AP Rocky found guilty of assault in Sweden, receives conditional sentence, $1,300 fine - Fox News

A$AP Rocky was found guilty by a judge in Sweden on Wednesday for his role in an assault before his appearance at a music festival.

The 30-year-old rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, departed Stockholm, Sweden, earlier this month and arrived in the U.S. after being detained in the country since July 3. The Harlem native was accused of beating 19-year-old Mustafa Jafari on June 30 outside a fast-food restaurant in central Stockholm. He pleaded not guilty at the start of the three-day trial, saying that he acted in self-defense when Jafari and another man would not leave him and friends David Rispers Jr. and Bladimir Corniel alone.

Per Lennerbrant, the presiding judge, told a news conference that "the evidence in the case has been complex."

Lennerbrant said that Jafari was struck in the back of the head with a bottle but "it could not be established by whom," adding that "this has affected the assessment of the seriousness of the crime."

The three avoided prison sentences. They were given conditional sentences and also ordered to pay a total of 12,500 kronor ($1,307) in compensation.

The rapper and his friends were allowed to leave Stockholm for Los Angeles on Aug. 2 and were not required to be present for the verdict.

The courts said the defendants "were not in a situation" where they were entitled to self-defense and that they "assaulted the victim by hitting and kicking him."

Testifying in court, Jafari said his memory of the events was confused because of the blows to his head he received during the brawl. He had told police earlier that he got angry as his headphones were broken during the initial argument with a bodyguard.

A full-scale brawl ensued shortly afterward and prosecutors allege that Rocky and his bodyguards — Rispers and  Corniel — beat and kicked Jafari while he was on the ground. They said Jafari was hit with a bottle.

One of the witnesses to the assault revised her story from initial police reports, testifying Friday that she didn't actually see Rocky hit Jafari with a bottle — a key focus of the trial. She and a friend, testifying anonymously at Stockholm District Court, both maintained that they did see Rocky and his partners assaulting Jafari.

Jafari claimed the rapper pushed him to the ground. The prosecution played video footage in court showing Rocky throwing a young man to the ground, and photos showed the alleged victim's cuts, bruises and blood-stained clothes.

The case drew the attention of American celebrities and Rocky's fellow recording artists, including Sean "Diddy" Combs and Justin Bieber. A social media campaign, #JusticeForRocky, has been pressing for his release.

The issue also became a topic of a U.S.-Swedish diplomatic spat.

President Trump intervened on behalf of the rapper while he was jailed, and called Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven, offering to personally guarantee his bail, but the Swedish leader said he couldn't interfere in a legal case. Trump later cheered the release of Rocky and his bodyguards.

A$AP Rocky convicted of assault by Swedish court - CNN

The performer and two members of his entourage were convicted by a Swedish court, following a confrontation in the Swedish capital on June 30.
In its ruling on Wednesday, Stockholm District Court rejected the performer's claim that the trio had been acting in self-defense.
"Based on statements from two witnesses, the court finds that the defendants were not subject to a current or imminent criminal attack," the ruling said.
"Therefore, they were not in a situation where they were entitled to use violence in self-defense. Nor could they have perceived themselves to be in such a situation."

Swedish public prosecutor Daniel Suneson had argued during the trial that the artist and the two other men -- David Rispers and Bladimir Corniel -- assaulted the victim by kicking and beating him with a whole or part of a glass bottle while he lay on the ground.
The imposition of a conditional sentence means that A$AP Rocky will be subject to a probationary period of two years. The court awarded damages to the victim "for violation of his integrity and pain and suffering."
The defendants were also ordered to repay legal expenses to the state.
Known for his song "Praise the Lord," 30-year-old A$AP Rocky -- whose real name is Rakim Mayers -- was released by Swedish authorities at the conclusion of his trial on August 2 and left the country shortly afterwards.
He was not required to appear in court for Wednesday's ruling.
The rapper's arrest angered fans and fellow artists, and strained diplomatic relations with the United States after President Donald Trump repeatedly demanded his release, even raising the issue with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven.
In response, Löfven's spokesperson Mikael Lindström said in a statement to CNN at the time that "the Government is not allowed, and will not attempt, to influence the legal proceedings, which are now ongoing."
Swedish officials repeatedly stressed that the country's judiciary is "completely independent" and "does not take into consideration outside pressure from politicians or others."
A$AP Rocky addressed the case during a performance at a music festival in California on Sunday, according to Reuters.
"Hopefully we won't have to go back to jail or nothing like that, that would be crazy," he told the audience at the Real Street Festival -- his first public appearance since his release. "It was an unfortunate event and I'm just trying to stay blessed."

'America's Got Talent' 5th Judge: Blind, Autistic Singer Kodi Lee Blows Judges Away Again - TooFab

For some reason, “America’s Got Talent” front-loaded the quarterfinals with kid singers, even bringing one back as their wild card.

Does this spell doom for all of the other acts as the kid singers will take all seven slots available, or is this a way to trim them down to a more reasonable number? Considering America takes over the vote, it’s really down to what they want.

Outside of singers, we did get to enjoy the light art of Alex Dowis, the incredible danger of Bir Khalsa, the many voices of Greg Morton and the high kicks of the Emerald Belles. But that is only four acts out of eight.

Perhaps the most anticipated act of the night was blind, autistic singer Kodi Lee who blew the judges and everyone away with his first audition, earning Gabrielle Union’s golden buzzer.

He was joined this week by Julianne Hough’s golden buzzer Luke Islam and our first wild card act of the season, returning after getting cut in the previous round. Let’s just say, she was pretty excited to get that call!

Who do I think I am? you ask. Well, I spent nearly a decade of my life sweating and bleeding to the music as a dancer. From a young boy learning a shuffle-ball-change to performing with the St. Louis Ballet Company, I experienced the ups and downs of one of the most difficult physically demanding sports on the planet. During this time, I was also a member of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, as well as a gymnast, writer and cartoonist. I had a lot more energy in my younger years. And I've spent the last seventeen years analyzing and critiquing reality competition shows for various media publications. I've got this.

Fair warning, since I'm safe at home, I'm probably going to be a little harsher than my colleagues Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union, Julianne Hough and Simon Cowell. But I might be nicer, too. Maybe.

And just for fun through this round, I'm gonna rank them from worst to first to see who emerges as my Top 7 and winner each week.

Carmen Carter

(singer) What an odd choice for Carmen, tackling Imagine Dragon’s “Believe.” Her voice didn’t seem to fit most of it, even as she tried to rearrange it for her powerful voice. But it’s a song that doesn’t soar like she does, making for jarring transitions throughout. Unfortunately, the whole performance didn’t do her enough favors to stand out and be remembered, nor did it showcase what makes her amazing vocally.

Greg Morton

(impressionist) Maybe it’s just us, but there’s still a disconnect between enjoying the many movie impressions he can do and seeing this as a headlining show in Las Vegas. We’d still like to see some narrative in the set, rather than just disjointed cilps. Or at least a theme for the clips, or maybe original lines set within those movie worlds. He’s good at what he does, but is it enough? We could definitely see America loving him, though.

Ansley Burns

(singers) Another terrible song choice that did Ansley no favors. She’s such a spitfire personality and a lot of fun, but it’s hard to see this performance earning her enough votes to move on. It showed nothing of her voice you couldn’t see at a competent karaoke show.

GFORCE

(singers) If they don’t win “AGT” -- and they won’t -- they just pitched the theme song for their own Nickelodeon or Disney Channel kids show. These girls have the DNA of a bona fide girl group, but they’re not quite polished yet as vocalists to really set the radio on fire. But they have great presence, charm and personality with a positive message for young girls … plus, the songs are catchy. There’s definitely something special here.

Sophie Pecora

(singer) The song in her intro package was much stronger than the one she took onto the stage with her. In fact, this was her weakest song to date and at the worst possible time when America finally gets a chance to vote. Sophie has a special voice and ability to speak in a current way about life in her generation, but she missed the mark here trying to proselytize in generalities rather than just speak her truth. Perhaps the package song will be enough.

TOP 7

Voices of Service

(singers) This was the wrong thing to do here because this moment is about getting votes. This was the performance you do at the end of your show for the powerful encore. Bringing out the choir made up of all five branches of the military is inspired, but it also took away from the group, and the song didn’t allow any of them to really shine in a meaningful or memorable way. It’s a shame, because they’re incredible.

Luke Islam

(singer) Luke has the pipes, but he needs to learn to use his body if he wants to be a performer on Broadway. The best kid singer on the night, though, he really does have a connection to these songs and this genre. It’s easy to imagine “AGT” will deposit him right to his dreams, though he’s a longshot to win the show. His voice really soared throughout this piece.

Messoudi Brothers

(acrobats) Once again, these guys know how to play to the crowd, working disrobing into their routine. But it’s the acrobatics that are truly incredible, as they showcase incredible strength, balance and trust in one another. It’s not as flashy as other acts, which could hurt the with the vote, but they are tremendously talented and dedicated to their craft.

Alex Dowis

(light artist) What an incredibly unique presentation, chronicling evolution from the big bang to the present day with some truly stunning visual images. The speed at which he can create a dinosaur or early man is just stunning and the way he incorporates music and spoken word really makes this a magical and educational experience like no other.

Emerald Belles

(dancers) Yes, it’s more high-kicking and another drop into the splits to wrap it up, but the Belles really stepped up the complexity of their routine and, more importantly, the synchronicity of their movements. This was the tightest they’ve ever been, and they made some very cool pictures throughout. Yes, it still feels like a high school or college dance team, but that’s what they are and they’re very good at what they do. And tonight we saw glimpses of what they could become if they were to stick together and really grow as a unit with a clear vision.

Bir Khalsa

(danger act) These guys are absolute lunatics, and even though there were some elements of repeat, the chainsaw and the heads lined up with watermelons added a new sense of danger that kept it exciting. The new guy screaming throughout we could do without, but there’s no denying that as danger acts go, this is one of the craziest and most compelling.

Kodi Lee

(singer) While not as powerful as his initial audition, Kodi still managed to soar on this cover of “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” He is truly an extraordinary talent and what an amazing gift for him and his family to have discovered. Moving on from here should be a no-brainer.

PREDICTIONS

While we stand by our Top 7 above, we also don’t necessarily think America is going to agree with us. We expect Sophie Percora to make it in over the Messoudi Brothers.

Greg Morton could serve as a spoiler, but he went so early in the show and we really don’t see him elevating his act each time; rather he just brings out more impressions.

Another possiblity is that America doesn’t get the Emerald Belles and Ansley Burns or GFORCE creep into the next round, as we know how much America loves its kid singers.

Our final prediction, though, is Sophie swapping with Messoudi and our Top 7 otherwise moving on in tact. And we expect you to vote in alignment with that! We'll all find out if you did when some of last season's favorites return -- including winner Shin Lim -- for the results show.

"America's Got Talent" airs Tuesdays and Wedesdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Liam Hemsworth wishes Miley Cyrus 'nothing but health and happiness going forward' - CNN

The "Hunger Games" star put up a photo of what appears to be beautiful sunset scene on a beach. It appeared on his official Instagram account early Tuesday.
The caption jumped right into the ending of his marriage of less than a year to the singer/actress.
"Hi all," Hemsworth wrote, "Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward."
Over the weekend People magazine reported that the couple, who married in December 2018 after an almost decadelong, on-again, off-again relationship, had broken up.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth separate, People reports
"Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time," a rep for Cyrus told the publication in a statement. "Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what's best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy."
CNN has reached out to representatives for the couple.
In his Instagram caption, Hemsworth, 29, also appeared to address a Daily Mail Australia story which had been picked up by other outlets quoting him as saying about the split, "You don't understand what it's like."
"This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets," Hemsworth wrote. "Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love."
