'Friends' Officially Leaving Netflix for WarnerMedia's Streaming Service - Hollywood Reporter

HBO Max will also be the new streaming home for fare from The CW and feature original movies from Greg Berlanti and Reese Witherspoon.

It's official: Friends is moving from Netflix to WarnerMedia's streaming service, now officially called HBO Max.

HBO Max will also be the new streaming home for all fare from The CW (which was previously housed at Netflix) as well as original feature films from prolific producer Greg Berlanti and Reese Witherspoon. HBO Max will officially launch in spring 2020 and will debut with 10,000 hours of premium content. Sources say WarnerMedia paid $85 million per year for five years ($425 million total) to land Friends for its own service, outbidding Netflix for the ensemble comedy starring Jennifer Aniston. Netflix responded to the news with a tweet Tuesday.

“HBO Max will bring together the diverse riches of WarnerMedia to create programming and user experiences not seen before in a streaming platform. HBO’s world-class programming leads the way, the quality of which will be the guiding principle for our new array of Max Originals, our exciting acquisitions, and the very best of the Warner Bros. libraries, starting with the phenomenon that is ‘Friends,’” said Robert Greenblatt, chairman, WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer. “Under the leadership of two of the strongest creative visionaries — Casey Bloys (HBO) and Kevin Reilly (original content and acquisitions) — and two of the most experienced digital experts, Tony Goncalves and Andy Forssell, I have no doubt they and their dedicated teams will deliver the world’s best storytelling to audiences of all ages wherever and whenever they want it.”

HBO Max will also be the exclusive streaming home for all episodes of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as well as Pretty Little Liars. Those will join The CW originals starting with Batwoman and Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene. All of those series, as well as Friends, are produced by Warner Bros. TV. The CW's streaming deal with Netflix expired in May. Current CW series already streaming on Netflix (like Riverdale and The Flash) will continue to do so until they wrap their runs.

The Friends move from Netflix was expected after the streaming giant paid producers Warners $80 million-$100 million to continue to have the former NBC hit for all of 2019. The show will move to HBO Max when that deal expires at the start of 2020. WarnerMedia Entertainment  Networks president Kevin Reilly strongly indicated back in February that Friends would be pulled from Netflix and moved to the streaming platform when he noted that "it's not a good model to share."

The decision comes weeks after Netflix lost streaming rights to The Office as producers Universal Television auctioned off rights to the hit comedy. Sources say NBCUniversal's streaming service won the rights with a $100 million per-year offer (for five years) following a heated round of bidding with everyone including Netflix attempting to land the library.

Berlanti — who holds a TV record with 18 series on the air, including Kaley Cuoco vehicle The Flight Attendant for HBO Max — will produce four initial YA movies, while Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine banner will produce at least a pair of features for the service. “What I’ve always loved about creating shows that connect with a young audience is that these fans grow up with the programs and will remember them for the rest of their lives. Now I get to do even more of that for HBO Max, where viewers will be able to discover shows on their own time, in their own way," Berlanti said. "Like any great novel, these shows will be there waiting for you. As a fan, what I’m personally most excited to watch on the service are all the great Warner Bros. movies that affected our entire culture and changed the way we live.”

HBO Max will also feature library content from WarnerMedia outlets including HBO's upcoming series WatchmenThe Outsider (from Stephen King), J.J. Abrams-Jordan Peele's Lovecraft Country, Joss Whedon's The Nevers, David Simon's The Plot Against America and more like Issa Rae's Insecure.

“What’s exciting about HBO Max is that we have so many more resources and so many more voices of support for our show, and it’s an opportunity for other creators to have a bigger platform. I’m thrilled that my show will still be on HBO but now it will also be part of a new service that will reach more and more people,” Rae said.

It's unclear if the entire Game of Thrones library will also stream on HBO Max, though creator George R.R. Martin seemed to indicate that the prequel series currently in the pilot stage could wind up there. "Back in 1991, after a decade in television, I began writing a series of novels that I knew would never be filmed. A Game of Thrones and its sequels were too big, too complex, too dark, too sexy, with a cast of thousands, gigantic battles, massive castles, direwolves, ice wights, and dragons. Too sprawling for a feature film, too expensive for television. I should have remembered, ‘It's not television, it's HBO.’ Working with HBO during the past decade has been a dream come true," Martin said. "What they did could not be done, but they did it anyway. And now they are embarked on a new venture. No, they won't be tying their shows to the legs of ravens as I suggested ... instead they are launching an exciting new streaming platform that will carry all the great HBO programming around the world ... classic old shows and thrilling new shows, including (I hope) a return to my world of Westeros. Sign me up!”

In addition to library content like Friends and Pretty Little Liars, HBO Max will feature scripted originals including Dune: The Sisterhood, Tokyo Vice starring Ansel Elgort, Cuoco's The Flight Attendant, Anna Kendrick comedy Love Life and a Gremlins animated prequel series. Others are expected to be announced as the streamer continues to aggressively bulk up on high-profile new series to land subscribers.

HBO Max is expected to launch in beta in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Is Sarah Paulson Sitting Out the Next Season of AMERICAN HORROR STORY? - Dread Central

If history is any indicator, the next season of American Horror Story will debut around late September in order to wrap before the end of the year holidays. Of course, if history were an indicator, Sarah Paulson would have a starring role in the upcoming, slasher-themed chapter, 1984.

Variety is reporting, however, that Paulson may be sitting this one out–the first time in the show’s entire 9-season run. The best we can hope for, it appears, is a cameo.

AHS: Freak Show: Sarah Paulson

Variety has learned from sources that Paulson will not appear in a significant role in the FX anthology series’ upcoming ninth season, which is titled American Horror Story: 1984. Paulson has appeared in all eight of the preceding seasons of the hit series, usually in a major role. It is possible Paulson could appear in a cameo. To date, the least Paulson has appeared in any season of the show was in Season 1, in which she was featured in just three episodes. Fellow series mainstay Evan Peters had previously said he will not be in Season 9.

What do you think of the fact that Sarah Paulson will have a minor role, at best, in American Horror Story: 1984? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram! You can also carry on the convo with me personally on Twitter @josh_millican.

Why Sarah Paulson Will Not Star in 'American Horror Story: 1984' - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Bad news for American Horror Story fans — Variety reports that Sarah Paulson will not have a lead role in the show’s upcoming season, American Horror Story: 1984. Why is Sarah Paulson taking a step back from AHS? Will Evan Peters star in this new season? Here’s what we know about FX’s horror series.

Up until this point, Sarah Paulson starred in every season of FX’s series, ‘American Horror Story’

What is American Horror Story without Sarah Paulson? The actress portrayed notable characters in all eight seasons of FX’s series. That includes reporter Lana Winters, witch Cordelia Foxx, and even conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler. Paulson enjoyed recognition from fans and critics alike, earning five Emmy Award nominations for her roles on American Horror Story.

Now, about eight years since its creation, it’s time for the actress to take a step down from FX’s horror series. According to Variety, Sarah Paulson will not have a lead role in the show’s eighth season, entitled American Horror Story: 1984. However, sources say a cameo from the actress is possible.

Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will most likely not return to ‘American Horror Story: 1984’

Sarah Paulson is not the only actor stepping down from FX’s series. Another fan favorite, Evan Peters, will not return to American Horror Story for their newest season. He has also had a lead role every season of the horror series — until now, at least. In an interview with GQ, Evan Peters explained that working on Pose and American Horror Story took a toll on his mental health.

“It’s been all a massive stretch for me and really difficult to do,” Evan Peters said. “It’s hurting my soul and Evan as a person. There’s this massive amount of rage that’s been called upon from me, and the emotional stuff that’s been called on me for Pose has been heartbreaking, and I’m sick. I don’t feel good.”

Some AHS alumni will most likely return for the show’s newest season. That includes Cody Fern, who played Michael Langdon in American Horror Story: Apocalypse. Emma Roberts, who starred as Madison Montgomery, Maggie Esmerelda, and Serena Belinda, will portray one of the main characters in American Horror Story: 1984.

What other shows and movies will Sarah Paulson star in?

After starring in over 80 episodes of American Horror Story, it was finally time for this actress to move on. She found success starring alongside Sandra Bullock for the trendy thriller movie, Birdbox. According to Variety, Sarah Paulson is currently filming the upcoming FX series about the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, entitled Mrs. America.

Additionally, she is working alongside AHS creator, Ryan Murphy, for the Netflix series Ratched, a show based on the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. In terms of movies, Sarah Paulson will star in upcoming features like Run, The Goldfinch, and animated film Abominable.

FX’s American Horror Story: 1984 premieres on September 18, 2019.

'The Bachelorette' contestant Jed Wyatt begs viewers to stop harassing his family amid cheating allegations - Fox News

"The Bachelorette" contestant Jed Wyatt, who came under fire for allegedly having a girlfriend when he appeared on the ABC hit reality series, finally broke his silence about the claims ... somewhat.

"Hi y'all," the 25-year-old musician captioned a photo with his parents and sister. "Several of you have reached out with messages and questions. Please know I'm not able to answer right now, but as soon as I'm able to, I will. Until then, I ask that you please understand how much the actions being taken towards myself, my family, the men on the show, and above all, Hannah, are affecting all of our mental and physical health."

He continued, "It goes beyond what is said online. Threatening letters and phone calls have been sent to our homes. My parents and sister are being verbally attacked in public."

'THE BACHELORETTE' CONTESTANT JED WYATT ALLEGEDLY HAD GIRLFRIEND WHEN FILMING BEGAN

Wyatt asked his followers to have empathy before concluding, "I beg you to remember what seems like a harmless action is damaging to real people. I want to thank all of you who have reached out or reserved judgement [sic] until I am able to speak openly and I can only ask for your patience and kindness until then."

The Nashville native came under fire last month when his ex-girlfriend Haley Stevens told press that he "ghosted" her and only appeared on "The Bachelorette" to further his music career. He didn't mention Stevens or her allegations in his missive.

NICK VIALL SLAMS JED WYATT OVER 'BACHELORETTE' GIRLFRIEND DRAMA

“He told me [early on] that he had applied. He said, ‘It’s probably not going to happen, but it’s a huge opportunity. I’m only doing this for my music.’ He only did it for his career," Stevens claimed, adding the two were past the "I love you" stage of their relationship.

She said Wyatt told her he just wanted to make it to Hannah Brown's top five.

“He called me when he landed in L.A. He said, ‘I love you, and I’ll call you when I get back,'" she recalled.

JED WYATT'S EX SAYS SHE 'LOST IT' WHEN HE WENT ON SOLO DATE IN BOSTON ON 'BACHELORETTE'

She later said that when she watched Wyatt go on his solo date with Brown in Boston, she broke down in tears.

“I went in a hammock in my backyard and just lost it," she admitted. "But even then, I was convincing myself, ‘I don’t have any affirmation from him. I can’t speak to him.’ I was still, like, ‘You knew this was coming. You have to trust him.’” When he returned home, he didn't answer her calls and they had a single awkward run-in.

Still, Stevens has no ill will toward Brown and she doesn't blame her for her ex's alleged shady behavior.

“She’s just so genuine. I feel guilty for that because while on the front end, I was just loving this person and doing what was best for him, now it’s like, there’s this other person and this other heart that’s involved in this,” Stevens said. “There’s no good that could ever come from me warning her off or telling her to run."

American Horror Story faces backlash after another legend confirms they won't return - Gay Times Magazine

Evan Peters, Billy Eichner… now this. It won’t be the same.

Another major American Horror Story star has confirmed they’re not returning for 1984.

Sarah Paulson, who has appeared on the critically-acclaimed horror series since its first season Murder House, will not appear for its upcoming ninth instalment, according to sources at Variety.

The American actress has received widespread praise for her work on the show, garnering five Emmy Award nominations (with no win – can you believe?) and two wins at the Critics Choice Television Awards.

She follows AHS veteran Evan Peters, who is also sitting this season out, and Billy on the Street star Billy Eichner, who had significant roles in the seventh (Cult) and eighth season (Apocalypse).

AHS fans were quick to slam the upcoming season for not featuring Sarah or Evan on Twitter (because it’s somehow Ryan Murphy’s fault), with some going as far to say they weren’t going to tune in.

“Sarah Paulson is leaving AHS… well it’s over,” said one fan while another wrote, “So you’re telling me there’s no Evan Peters, no Jessica Lange and now no Sarah Paulson in the new season of AHS?”

See all the reactions below.

The highly-anticipated follow-up to Apocalypse will premiere on FX on 18 September.

The ninth season of American Horror Story is sub-titled 1984, and it seems safe to assume that it will be set in the 1980s (duh), especially given the 80s slasher feel of the trailer, but beyond that we know very little.

What we do know is that previous cast member Emma Roberts will be back alongside Olympic freeskier Gus Kenworthy, who will be making his acting debut as Emma’s on-screen boyfriend.

Evan Peters, who’s starred in every season of the show since 2011, told GQ earlier this year that he wanted to take a “sabbatical” from AHS to focus on other endeavours because the series had taken an emotional toll on his mental health.

“I’m goofy, I’m silly, I like to have fun. I don’t like to yell and scream. I actually hate it. I think it’s disgusting and really awful, and it’s been a challenge for me. Horror Story sort of demanded that of me,” he said.

“It’s been all a massive stretch for me and really difficult to do. It’s hurting my soul and Evan as a person.

“There’s this massive amount of rage that’s been called upon from me, and the emotional stuff that’s been called on me for Pose has been heartbreaking, and I’m sick. I don’t feel good.”

We recently rounded up five of the best fan theories that we could totally see happening when AHS: 1984 arrives this Autumn – check them out here.

'Bachelorette' Star Jed Wyatt Pleads with Fans to Leave His Family Alone Amid Cheating Claims - TooFab

"Bachelorette" contestant Jed Wyatt had a rough day on Monday ... twice! One took place weeks ago when the hometown visits were filmed -- but aired Monday night -- while the other is happening here and now as he and his family are facing the fallout of cheating allegations.

Viewers got to meet Jed's family as Hannah Brown got to enjoy four hometown visits. And while fans were totally expecting Luke Parker's hometown visit to come last (and maybe give us that already-famous "f--ked in a windmill" moment), it was Jed's family that was saved for last.

That's not to say Luke's hometown visit wasn't bizarrely awkward, but primarily because his family and church friends all talked about him like he is an absolute saint when Hannah, the other contestants and viewers at home know that is absolutely not the truth.

Unfortunately, producers faked us out, though, and Hannah won't be laying into him until next week when we finally get to the fantasy suites. Yes, Luke survived again, and we'll definitely get to that in a minute!

Jed's family, conversely, seemed to spend Hannah's entire visit trying to convince her that she and Jed should definitely not get together or get engaged or do anything because, you know, the music!

When Hannah asked Jed's mom if he was ready to get engaged, she said a whole lot and didn't say much of anything at all. "I wouldn't have felt that way before, just because he's a musician," she told Hannah.

"You don't get a diploma to be a musician. I mean, Jed's had to have jobs and try to create time and space to do his music. It's his heart and it's his soul, so he couldn't go to work full time and do music, you know. So his path is different. It's very different."

When Jed spoke with her, mom told him, "What I see I love," but she also told him "it doesn't all feel very realistic to me, but you know you're the one living it."

Jed's sister was far more direct with Hannah, telling her, "I'm very protective over Jed, and making music makes him so happy and honestly like, him potentially falling in love with you, I'm not sure that it's a good thing."

But many fans aren't so sure the family is so passionate about Jed's music. And it's those same fans that Jed reached out to in a lengthy post on Instagram, pleading with them to be nicer and stop attacking him and his family over those cheating allegations from his ex-girlfriend Haley Stevens.

According to Jed, his family has received threatening letters and phone calls from impassioned "Bachelorette" fans who are disgusted and angered every time they see him on-screen with Hannah, believing him to be cheating on Haley and thus disingenuous in his intentions and feeling. He even said his parents and sister are being verbally harassed in public.

As for the claims themselves, Jed says, "I'm not able to answer right now, but as soon as I'm able to, I will." He's locked into a pretty strict contract right now that limits what he can comment on, and clearly this falls under the area of things he can't talk about, leaving him nothing left to do but be upfront and asks fans to please stop harassing his family and Hannah and himself over this.

This means that Haley's claims get to remain unanswered at this time, which is never good for the accused. Alas, Jed's hands are contractually tied and so it is what it is. Haley says she and Jed never broke up before he went on the show, and had recently declared their love for one another.

She even claimed that he left her a letter the night before he left telling her, "You know where my heart will be," suggesting that he had no intention of falling in love on the show. Perhaps, as with many other contestants, Haley is suggesting that Jed just went on the show for self-promotion as an aspiring country musician.

At some point, Jed will give his side of the story, and that point should come relatively soon as the show is winding down. But Jed's not out yet, even if he's not as thrilled to be sticking around as you might think.

That's because it came down to Jed and Luke P for the final rose of the night and Hannah was having a really hard time making a decision. Finally, she didn't.

After giving roses to Peter and Tyler and a long, dramatic reality show pause, Hannah told Luke and Jed, "I can’t give out a final rose. I want to continue on with all of you." It marked the first time for either "Bachelor" series that no one has been eliminated at this stage.

For Jed, the problem is that after awarding Peter and Tyler, Hannah seemed torn between him and Luke. So he sees her choosing both of them as a statement of equivalency between them, and that's not something that sits well with him.

"What the f--k is going on?" Jed said in a closing confessional. "I got a rose, but to be honest it doesn’t feel like I got a rose at all. It feels like it was really hard for her make a decision between me and someone who was a complete scumbag through this whole process."

He went on to add, "To be in the same category, or even close to the same category as him, is an insult. He’s been a constant toxin through every bit of this."

Luke has, after all, been effectively the "villain" of the season, displaying abhorrent behavior, aggression, sexist and controlling language and lots and lots of lying and disparaging his fellow contestants.

Many fans are hopeful that footage from next week's episode, where Hannah finally lays into Luke for his awful behavior and his attempts to "control" what she does with her body like he owns her or something, show her finally giving him the boot. If it doesn't happen, they may just riot ... and forget how mad they are at Jed for a moment.
