Did Debby Ryan Have a Heart Attack? - Snopes.com

On July 6, 2019, fans of actor Cameron Boyce were shocked and saddened to learn that the 20-year-old Disney star had passed away after experiencing a seizure. As celebrities and fans mourned the loss of Boyce on social media, a rumor began to circulate that actress Debby Ryan had suffered a heart attack after hearing the news about her former co-star’s death:

There was no truth to this unfounded rumor, which was widely disseminated by a viral video posted to YouTube by @Dancetayley and titled “Debby Ryan Rushed to Hospital After Finding Out About Cameron Boyce.” The video, which racked up nearly 2 million views within a day of its initial posting, included a number of screenshots of tweets from random people who claimed that Ryan had suffered a heart attack:

None of those tweets originated with verified sources, however, and no credible news outlets reported that Ryan experienced a heart attack.

This rumor likely stemmed from the fact that Ryan’s voice was absent from the conversation immediately following Boyce’s death. While many other co-stars and celebrity friends posted messages to social media mourning the loss of Boyce after the news of his death broke, Ryan’s social media accounts were largely silent. Fans began to wonder why she hadn’t commented yet, and some of them started to claim without evidence that she had suffered a heart attack.

There were, of course, innumerable potential reasons why Ryan didn’t immediately post to social media that did not involve a heart attack. For example, she might simply have taken some time to process the news that her co-star had passed away.

While Ryan didn’t immediately post to social media, she did like a tweet posted by actor Charles Esten, who co-starred with Ryan and Boyce on the show Jessie:

Ryan, who turned off her Instagram comments following Boyce’s death (likely because a large number of fans were continuously reminding her that her friend had just died), also posted a video to her Instagram story of Boyce’s acceptance speech for the Pioneering Spirit award at the 2018 Thirst Gala.

Here’s the full video of Boyce’s acceptance speech. The portion of his speech included in Ryan’s post is transcribed below:

It’s crazy, we can tweet whenever we want and we can use social media and Instagram and make the world a better place, instead of a worse one, which so many people use it for…

We need to use what we have and make the world a better place for other people, other people, people who need us.

Cameron Boyce's last interview paid tribute to his African-American heritage - CNN

In what was reportedly his last interview, the 20-year-old talked to Haute Living about his diverse heritage which included a grandmother who became one of the symbols of the civil rights movement.
The actor's grandmother, Jo Ann Allen Boyce, was one of the "Clinton 12," a group of black students who made history after the U.S. Supreme Court's 1954 ruling in Brown v. Board of Education. which ordered Clinton High School in Clinton, Tennessee, to desegregate.
She recently co-authored a book titled "This Promise of Change: One Girl's Story in the Fight for School Equality."
"Her story doesn't just inspire me ... It hits home with everyone who stops to listen to it," her grandson told the publication.
"She and the other 11 students set the stage for our generation to come together. We have to ensure -- -especially with some of the controversy plaguing us now -- that we continue to push towards dreams that have yet to be realized. Equality in its truest sense."
Boyce also said of his grandmother "She's a huge part of who I am."
"Being African American and Jewish, I have plenty of ancestors and family members that I can look to for strength, and more importantly, for a grateful outlook on life," he said. "Every one of them clawed and scratched for my sister and I to be in the position we're in today."
The Disney Channel star died in his sleep after a seizure resulting from an ongoing medical condition, a spokesperson for his family told CNN Sunday.
During his life Boyce was involved in several philanthropic endeavors, including the Thirst Project, a nonprofit that provides communities with safe drinking water.
He told Haute Living he was merely carrying on the legacy given that "there's a long line of difference makers in my family."
"I'm following in the footsteps of some really strong men and women who have showed me what it means to give back; it's the greatest way to fulfill yourself," he said. "Every time I talk to someone who shares that similar passion, we talk about how there aren't many feelings more euphoric. Changing someone else's life positively changes yours for the better as well."
The young actor wanted to inspire others, he said.
"Many people have the heart to give back, but a lot don't know how to," he said. "I try to be the bridge for those people -- whether that means getting them involved in one of my campaigns or inspiring them by showing them a blueprint of how to get others engaged."

'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil' Trailer: Angelina Jolie Is Back To Her Evil Ways - Deadline

“Don’t ruin my morning!”, snarls Angelina Jolie in Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil trailer, a follow-up to the 2014 global box office hit.

Jolie and Elle Fanning reprise their roles as the dark fairy Maleficent and Princess Aurora. The film also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sam Riley, Harris Dickinson, Ed Skrein, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville.

In the sequel, it appears Jolie’s Maleficent is being an over-protective mother and is having trouble letting up of goddaughter Aurora as her wedding to Prince Phillip (Dickinson) nears. It comes to a climax in a disastrous banquet, with Maleficent declaring “There is no union and there will be no wedding!” That follows with Maleficent waging war against the Kingdom of Ulstead.

Joachim Ronning directs the sequel to the $758.5M global grossing 2014 hit which centers around the femme villain from Disney’s classic Sleeping Beauty.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil hits theaters nationwide on October 18.
