Stranger Things is back just in time to overshadow your Summer festivities. Netflix’s iconic show is bound to have you binge-watching Season 3 like there’s no tomorrow. Perhaps the only person more excited than fans about the show’s return is breakout star, Millie Bobby Brown. “Omg I’m quaking…15 minutes till your weekend has been taken over By Netflix and Stranger Things” the 15-year-old wrote in her Instagram story minutes before the show premiered for its third season. But why is Brown the breakout star of this incredibly popular show?

Though Brown was making big strides in her acting career prior to booking her role as El on Stranger Things, she exploded into superstardom after she landed the role back in 2016. The actress currently boasts nearly 20 million followers on Instagram and is reported to earn about $250,000 an episode for her performance on the show. She recently finished filming her first two feature films and is currently recording a third. At such a young age, Brown’s career is lucrative and full of opportunities. But what is it about the 15-year old that made her the standout actress on Stranger Things?

Breakout star

Though the 15-year-old actress is incredibly talented at her craft, the same can be said for the rest of her co-stars. Why is it then, that she has easily secured the role of it girl rather than someone else on the series? Much of Brown’s popularity is likely because of her unique character and how different she looked in comparison to her co-stars in season 1. With her head nearly shaved bald, Brown easily stood out within the cast. Fans were also impressed by her ability to easily embody an accent that was not her own at such a young age. With her incredible talent and fun yet quirky personality, Brown easily became a household name.

Though Brown is arguably the most famous actress within the series, she also is always humble enough to admit that the success of the show depends on a team of people working together. Brown always goes out of her way to put the ensemble ahead of her individual performance and that makes her even more likable to fans.

The cast and crew

Just ahead of the season 3 premiere, the English actress shared a sweet message about the cast and crew with her fans. “I can’t believe that we are 20 minutes away from Stranger Things 3 premiering. Before it comes out I wanna say that every single person working on our set is an essential factor for making our show. We all work so hard to bring this to life each year” the Godzilla vs. Kong actress wrote.

Season 3

Brown continued on to share with fans why season three of the show was such an incredible experience for her. “I’ll let you in on a little secret…this was my favorite season to film and my favorite season to watch. This year 011 is growing up. She is evolving into a real teenager. To watch her progression with fashion, relationships, and personal trauma is so beautifully written and directed and I was so lucky to be able to portray el in the way she deserved. Mike and El in this season are ADORBBBBSSSS and just wait for MAX and EL OMG I NEED TO SHUT UP IT’S ONLY 11 MINUTES” the 15-year old declared, her excitement palpable.

A$AP Rocky Could Be Held for Weeks After Arrest in Sweden - TMZ

A$AP Rocky is in even more trouble than we thought, because Swedish authorities have just made it clear ... they have no plans to release him anytime soon.

Swedish prosecutors are asking a judge to allow them to hold A$AP Rocky and members of his crew for 2 weeks, while they investigate the alleged assault Tuesday for which he was arrested. Swedish authorities are normally allowed to keep people for only 3 days, so they are clearly gunning for him.

And, there's even more ominous news. As you know, authorities jumped into action after a video surfaced of A$AP and his crew pummeling a guy on the street, leaving him battered and bloodied.

But then, another video surfaced, showing the alleged victim harassing A$AP and hitting his bodyguard with a set of headphones. The guy was harassing A$AP and his crew for about a half hour before they had enough.

A$AP actually tried to be a peacemaker ... telling the guy, "We don't wanna fight y'all. We don't wanna go to jail."

It's unclear if authorities saw that second video before they arrested A$AP, but they have seen it now. What's really significant ... Swedish prosecutors tell us they are releasing the bodyguard now due to "insufficient evidence" but they are not releasing A$AP. That suggests the second video doesn't do it for prosecutors, and they still view this as an assault.

This is really serious for A$AP ... if convicted, he faces 6 years in prison.

Tom Holland's Marvel Contract: How Many Spider-Man Movies Does He Have Left? - IGN

Peter Parker's story (probably) won't end with Far From Home.

Tom Holland's Spider-Man has quickly grown into one of the most important characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the last few years. That's even more true in the wake of Avengers: Endgame, as the MCU is distressingly short on Avengers even as newer and bigger threats loom on the horizon. This raises an important question - how many movies does actor Tom Holland have left on his Marvel contract? Will we even get another solo Spider-Man movie in the MCU?

The short answer is, yes, most likely. While there have sometimes been conflicting reports over the years regarding exactly how many movies Holland signed on for, the actor is currently under a six-picture contract with Marvel Studios. This was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter back in 2016. According to THR, Holland's contract covers three solo Spider-Man movies and three other MCU projects.

For those keeping track, that means Holland has completed five of those six movies. Between Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Holland has already completed all three miscellaneous MCU projects. And with Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home in the bag, that just leaves one more Spider-Man sequel to go.

This isn't to say Far From Home's sequel will necessarily be the last we ever see of Holland as Spider-Man. Robert Downey Jr. renegotiated his Marvel contract multiple times between 2008's Iron Man and 2019's Avengers: Endgame, and Chris Hemsworth has voiced an interest in continuing his Thor role despite completing his contract with Endgame. Holland could theoretically re-up his agreement and appear in future Spider-Man and Avengers sequels. Though there are other factors at play in this case, as Holland's MCU future also depends on Marvel Studios and Sony maintaining their current relationship.

Unfortunately, that relationship may wind up being the true limiting factor. Producer Amy Pascal hinted in 2017 that Spider-Man and his supporting cast could eventually disappear from the MCU. She said at the time, “One of the things that I think is so amazing about this experience is that you don’t have studios deciding to work together to make a film very often. In fact it may never happen again, after we do the sequel [to Spider-Man: Homecoming]."

The takeaway from Pascal's comments is that the length of Holland's contract may be irrelevant if Marvel and Sony opt to part ways after Far From Home. Fortunately, there's not much reason to assume the two studios won't continue to work together for the time being. Far From Home's box office projections are impressive, and the ending even directly sets the stage for a third Spider-Man movie.

It seems very unlikely Marvel and Sony aren't planning a sequel given the cliffhanger ending introduced in the mid-credits sequence, as J. Jonah Jameson appears on national television to accuse Spider-Man of Mysterio's crimes and reveal his secret identity to the world. The fallout of that identity leak will no doubt play a big role in the third movie.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has also compared these movies to the Harry Potter series, with each chronicling one year of Peter's high school career (beginning with his sophomore year in Homecoming). Part 3 will presumably complete that process and cover his senior year and graduation, assuming Peter even has room left in his life for school after being outed.

Whatever does happen, the third Spider-Man movie is poised to cap off this phase of Peter Parker's MCU career. As to whether there will be more Marvel movies in Holland's future after that, we can only hope Marvel will have more to say later this summer.

Everyone thinks Halle Berry has been cast as 'The Little Mermaid' - CNN

With quick glance at the name, and her stunning face, it appeared it was Halle Berry who had been cast in the role.

Despite the mix up, Bailey's fellow Halle couldn't be prouder.

"In case you needed a reminder... Halles get it DONE. Congratulations @chloexhalle on this amazing opportunity, we can't wait to see what you do!" the 52-year-old Oscar winner tweeted.

A few hours after Berry's tweet, Bailey replied, "this means the world. happy to share names with you ... love you lots."

Bailey, 19, forms half the R&B duo Chloe x Halle. It will be exciting to see her take on Ariel, who trades in her beautiful singing voice for human legs.

Bailey tweeted that landing the role is "a dream come true."

Rob Marshall is set to direct, and Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina are in talks to star. The film is produced by John DeLuca, Marc Platt and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

"After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance -- plus a glorious singing voice -- all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role," said Marshall in a statement announcing the news on Wednesday.

Mysterio in 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' vs. the Comics - Hollywood Reporter

Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko for The Amazing Spider-Man #13 (1964), Quinten Beck was a professional stuntman who was at the top of his craft when it came to working on movies. Not only was he a skilled hand-to-hand combatant, but his knowledge of robotics and special effects made him one of the most highly respected people in his field. However, that respect didn’t transfer when he decided he wanted to become an actor and a leading man. Hurt by the repeated rejection, he crafted a suit that would utilize his greatest skill — the art of deception. He used his trained skills of illusions, hallucinogens, and even hypnotic methods to terrorize the city of New York and even other universes. Beck doesn’t have any mutant powers or bestowed abilities. Instead, he went to work creating gear that will let him compete in the age of heroes.

In fact, one of Mysterio’s most well-known story lines barely mentions him at all — Old Man Logan. The alternate future comic arc, published from 2008-09 and also loosely adapted into 2017's Logan, showed a reclusive and weary Wolverine, having been in a self-imposed isolation. The reason, we find out, is that he fought off an attack at the X-Men’s headquarters, killing every villain that tried to harm the team. Except, it wasn’t an attack at all. Mysterio managed to trick Logan into thinking that all his teammates were actually villains. To put this into perspective, Logan is one of, if not the best, experts in the Marvel universe when it comes to his senses. His enhanced abilities of smell and sound can lead him to the most elusive targets with ease. For Mysterio to pull off a feat like this on the entire X-Men team shows how much of a treat he is to the teenage web-slinger from Queens.

In Far From Home, we meet Quinten Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal), a lone surviving warrior from Earth 833. Thanos, Hulk, and the now deceased Iron Man’s (we love you 3000) repeated use of the Infinity Gauntlet have opened Earth up to a type of Ground Zero for the multiverse. Beck has teamed with a resourceless Nick Fury, to track down the elemental creatures that destroyed his home world. Fury, who has reappeared five years later thanks to the Snappening — or as it’s called in the MCU, the “Blip” — appreciates the refugee’s aid in helping protect Earth from the same fate of Beck’s home planet. During a televised battle in Italy, the public gives the name of the newest costumed hero “Mysterio,” which Beck humbly accepts as he shoulders the mantle that one of the Avengers would normally carry. 

Meanwhile, Fury gifts Peter with a last present from Tony Stark — access to the satellite network that Stark’s had in place for any unforeseen events from domestic threats. Peter admires Beck’s work and trusts him with the access to Stark’s satellite. However, this is where we finally begin to understand the incredible depths that Mysterio’s talents are rooted.

Mysterio isn’t, in fact, the lone survivor of a destroyed world from another dimension. His work has been seen before in the MCU’s previous offerings. In 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) begins the film by explaining to MIT students how he invested in a high-tech holographic system as a sort of therapy. Dismissed as a waste of money, it’s revealed that Beck was the lead scientist on that project. He, alone with others who’ve been disrespected by Stark’s cockiness and seeming disregard for what they accomplished, concocted a plan to take advantage of a post-Stark world and to gain the admiration Iron Man has had for so long. Using a hyper-complex system unlike anything the MCU has ever seen, he not only manages to gain Spider-Man’s trust, but Nick Fury’s as well.

While the onscreen portrayal of Mysterio’s origin may be different, he’s no less lethal than his comic counterpart. True to fashion, he taps into Parker’s fears of being inadequate. In a chilling moment calling back to an Mysterio’s storyline in The Amazing Spider-Man #141 - #142, Beck makes an emotionally distraught Peter confront a zombie-like, rusting Iron Man, who accuses Peter of letting him down. In the comic storyline, Mysterio (inside the suit is Beck's fellow stuntman Danny Berkhart) makes Spider-Man see a number of illusions, including his deceased girlfriend Gwen Stacy, who died after Peter’s web accidentally snapped her neck in a battle with the Green Goblin. Seeing the grave of Tony being ripped apart is a jarring moment that instantly reminds the audience of the sacrifice Tony made, and how that’s shaped Peter.

While Mysterio’s story seemingly comes to an end at the end of the film, he’s saved his greatest illusion for last. As Spider-Man lands after taking a much-deserved swing with MJ (Zendaya), a pre-recorded video from Beck appears on the large marquee in front of a huge crowd, courtesy of J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons). Beck not only tells the city that Spider-Man is the one who killed him, but reveals that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Readers of 2006’s Civil War comic book storyline — in which Peter reveals his identity — can imagine the ramifications this will have on the MCU.

Mysterio’s preferred methods of fighting are on the psychological battlefield as opposed to the rock-em, sock-em method of Spidey’s other rogues. But in every showdown with him, whether it’s a comic, film, cartoon, or video game, Spider-Man’s heart and mind will undoubtedly be main target, with Mysterio ripping open any scar and secret Peter holds dear. While Mysterio may be a new addition big screen favorites such as Venom or Otto Octavius, he’s no less a more than capable villain. For Far From Home’s Peter Parker, he’s arguably his most dangerous yet.

'Stranger Things' makes David Harbour's dad bod a meme - New York Post

After three seasons, it’s clear that Netflix’s hit ’80s show “Stranger Things” knows its audience. Season 3 of the nostalgic sci-fi show leans into the fact that the internet loves David Harbour and his “dad bod.”

It all but winks at the camera.

Now, to be clear, the Emmy- and Tony-nominated actor is talented, charming, and has perhaps single-handedly brought back the “trend” of the dad bod, which a new survey purports to be more attractive to women than six-pack abs.

The internet certainly has lots of thirst for both actor and character — “Hopper Dancing” became a popular meme when Season 2 was airing. But Season 3 goes a step further and basically uses every scene he’s in just to set up memes, whether or not it makes sense for the character.

In the second episode — spoiler alert! — he gets drunk and belligerent after Joyce (Winona Ryder) stands him up on a date. After all their bonding over the previous few seasons, all the trauma he knows she’s been through, it doesn’t really make sense for him to have this reaction. But it sure will make fun memes, so the show is doing it.

Halfway through the season, he changes into a Vacation Dad-looking Hawaiian shirt. Joyce even comments on it, asking what he’s wearing, and he shrugs it off — because there really is no reason he’s wearing it. It’s just for the memes.

He sings in his car. He’s shirtless more than ever. None of these things are bad. But it’s also a shame his character development has been sidelined in favor of putting him in increasingly silly circumstances and outfits, just for the memes. Both actor and character are capable of more than that.

But hey, if you’re one of the people who agrees with that survey that dad bods are more appealing than rock-hard abs — then you’re in luck this season.

The 'Stranger Things' kids make out in Season 3 and it’s weird - New York Post

Warning: Mild spoilers ahead.

In the first episode of “Stranger Things” Season 3, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Mike (Finn Wolfhard) make out.

Last season of Netflix’s hit ’80s nostalgia sci-fi show saw the two pre-teens get together, and it was cute. In Season 3, it’s the summer before they enter high school — which means taking their chaste romance to the next level. And it’s weird.

Now, to be clear, teenagers do this. It’s not unrealistic. But there’s a reason other shows featuring teens use actors who are clearly in their 20s. We can all agree to pretend 26-year-old Cole Sprouse is 16 on “Riverdale” because otherwise, watching a real underage kid do anything sexual is creepy. Same with 22-year-old Noah Centineo in the Netflix hit “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before,” or the 20-something actors in Netflix’s “Sex Education” and Freeform’s “Cloak & Dagger.”

There’s a reason the internet lost its mind over Maisie Williams having a sex scene on “Game of Thrones” Season 8 — and ironically, unlike the “Stranger Things” kids, both actress and character were not underage at the time.

Eleven and Mike both read as about 12 or 13. They look and act extremely young. This isn’t to say “Stranger Things” shouldn’t have them make out, but we didn’t need to see it. It could have implied their activities happening offscreen.

Society sexualizes young girls enough — consider the creepy countdown websites for celebs such as Emma Watson, marking when she’d turn 18. Consider even 15-year-old Millie Bobby Brown herself, who in real life has an eyebrow raising friendship with Drake, a 31-year-old man. Consider the fact that a politician who allegedly pursued underage girls was taken seriously.

There’s no reason to lean into this further by showing underage antics onscreen. No show exists in a vacuum, and this one has an audience of millions. If “Stranger Things” creators the Duffer brothers knew this was where they wanted to take the story, they should have cast 20-somethings in the roles like any self-respecting CW show. They did it with Steve — actor Joe Keery is 27, and he believably reads as 17 or 18 on the show. Same with 22-year-old Natalie Dyer, who plays his ex-flame Nancy.

Season 3 of “Stranger Things” is a lot of fun, but it’s troubling this doesn’t seem to have occurred to its creators.
