Putin Says 'Genius Musician' Elton John Mistaken on Russian LGBT Rights - The Moscow Times

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday that Elton John was "mistaken" about LGBT rights in Russia, while praising the British singer as a musical genius.

Elton John said on Friday he was deeply upset by Putin's comment that liberal values were "obsolete" and had been rejected by the majority of people in Western nations.

He also accused Putin of hypocrisy for saying that he wanted LGBT people to be happy after reports that gay scenes in "Rocketman," the movie based on the singer's life, had been censored in Russia.

"I have a lot of respect for him, he is a genius musician, we all enjoy his music, but I think he is mistaken," Putin said when asked about Elton John's comments in Osaka where he was attending a G20 summit.

Putin said Russian authorities had a "relaxed and unprejudiced" attitude towards LGBT people, but decisions about gender identity could only be made by adults and therefore minors need to be "left alone."

Russian law bans "propaganda of homosexuality among minors."

Putin also said that while he did not deny the attractiveness of liberal values in general, he was referring to situations where they impinged on traditional lifestyles.

Sir Elton John calls Vladimir Putin's gay rights claims 'hypocrisy' - BBC News

Sir Elton John has written an open letter to Vladimir Putin accusing him of "hypocrisy" over his claims Russia has "no problems" with gay people.

The singer said he was "deeply upset" by the Russian president's comments in an interview in the Financial Times.

Sir Elton said his film Rocketman was edited in Russia to remove references to his husband David Furnish and their family. Russia has denied censorship.

He previously criticised Mr Putin for a "ridiculous" attitude to gay rights.

In the interview, published on Friday, Mr Putin attacked liberalism and, speaking of the LGBT community, said: "God forbid, let them live as they wish."

But he added: "Some things do appear excessive to us... They claim now that children can play five or six gender roles.

"Let everyone be happy, we have no problem with that. But this must not be allowed to overshadow the culture, traditions and traditional family values of millions of people making up the core population."

'Duplicity'

In posts on social media, Sir Elton said: "I strongly disagree with your view that pursuing policies that embrace multicultural and sexual diversity are obsolete in our societies."

He accused Mr Putin of "duplicity" over his comments.

Sir Elton said Russian distributors "chose to heavily censor" Rocketman "by removing all references to my finding true happiness through my 25-year relationship with David and the raising of my two beautiful sons".

"This feels like hypocrisy to me," Sir Elton said. "I am proud to live in a part of the world where our governments have evolved to recognise the universal human right to love whoever we want."

The right to marry has brought him and his husband "tremendous comfort and happiness", he said.

Russia's culture ministry has previously denied censoring the biopic Rocketman - which was released earlier this year - but said movies were expected to comply with laws on "paedophilia, ethnic and religious hatred and pornography".

The country introduced a law banning "gay propaganda" in 2013, prompting criticism from the European Court of Human Rights that it was discriminatory and encouraged homophobia.

Sir Elton told the BBC in 2015 he wanted to meet Mr Putin to discuss LGBT rights, criticising what he called the president's "ridiculous" attitude.

In the interview with the Financial Times, Mr Putin said that liberalism was "obsolete" because it had come into conflict with the interests of the majority of the population and with traditional values.

He added: "I am not trying to insult anyone, because we have been condemned for our alleged homophobia as it is. But we have no problems with LGBT persons."

It comes as celebrations have been happening and are planned across the world as part of LGBT Pride month in June.

Katharine McPhee and David Foster are marriedaccording to multiple reports.

The May-December couple tied the knot at a church in London on Friday, according to E! News and Page Six. The groom's daughters Erin and Sara Foster were reportedly in attendance for the big day.

Per Us Weekly, citing a source, McPhee wore a custom gown by Zac Posen.

The "American Idol" alum, 35, and Grammy-winning producer, 69, have known each other for more than 10 years.

McPhee, then 22, first met Foster on the set of "Idol" in 2006 when he was a guest mentor for contestants on the show.

“She didn’t catch my eye on the first day because I was so busy trying to do my job,” Foster previously admitted. "But, the reality is that in the last 12 years I’ve always had a connection with her.”

Oddly enough, Foster also played piano at McPhee's 2008 wedding to Nick Cokas. She and Cokas divorced in 2014.

Foster and McPhee were first rumored be a couple in fall 2017. They confirmed their romance in May 2018 and got engaged that July. "He did it at the top of this mountain in Anacapri," McPhee revealed on Instagram. "Totally dark, only stars." She added jokingly, "Thankfully, he didn't push me off the cliff. He said it was one or the other. And in the end he spared me."

McPhee is younger than some of Foster's own daughters, but the age gap doesn't faze the pair. McPhee explained simply, "We genuinely love and respect each other and have for a very long time."

Dog the Bounty Hunter Reveals Something 'Fans Do Not Know' About Late Wife Beth Chapman - TooFab

As the family and friends of Beth Chapman continue to mourn her loss, Duane "Dog" Chapman took to social media to share a video of his late wife guaranteed to make everyone smile.

Following her death on Wednesday after a battle with Stage IV lung cancer, Beth's husband of 13 years shared a sweet tribute to her on his Twitter page Thursday.

"People have asked me.. What is something fans do not know about Beth... Here you go," he wrote, along with a video showing her having a ball while singing Bruno Mars' 2016 song "Perm" with daughter Cecily.

Dog's daughter Lyssa shared another video from the fun-filled evening, writing, "Mom loved to sing and she loved her baby @icEciLy and she REALLY loved her some @BrunoMars. Hope you see this brother. Much Aloha." Dog retweeted her video, adding, "@BrunoMars you're her fav jam #portLockPride #SingaFewBars4Beth," though Mars has yet to respond.

Even though he is clearly deeply in mourning, the bounty hunter's first thoughts in a press conference was to protect the couple's fans from being scammed, assuring them the family did not need their money.

"We do have one problem," he told Hawaii News Now. "We've got people — mostly from the mainland — that are setting up funds, 'donate here to Beth' and all that."

"Right now, so far we don't need any money at all. Please save your money," he said, suggesting if fans really wanted to make a gesture they could send flowers. "There's nothing been authorized by any of us, but you know how buzzards are."

He added: "People in Hawaii or all over the world, we love you, but sometimes you can show love without money."

In a tear-filled interview, the reality star revealed his wife's last words.

"When she had an attack I didn't know anything to do but to say 'in Jesus' name' and hold her and when I said 'in Jesus' name' she said, 'Say it again, say it more'," he recalled. "And then she told the girls and everybody, with her mouth — she came out of it a couple times — 'I love you' and 'Are you guys all okay? Don't worry,'... but she never accepted it."

He managed a smile when he said his wife was already controlling his life from heaven.

"I'm sure she's still controlling me and I've got notes in my pillowcases, on my sink, in my shaving thing," he said. "She's still telling me what to wear."

Dog begged the scientific community to keep up their search for a cure, comparing cancer to the polio epidemic of the 20th century, which is now almost eradicated.

"The cancer gig, of course, we gotta find a cure," he said. "Because all we have now is some get lucky, but most pass away."

"It's just incredible when you walk alone in the bedroom and you're there and she was there two days ago," he continued. "I hope to god there is a God. I trained myself [to think] 'What would Jesus do?' and I hope I'm not just talking to myself. I hope there is a God and if there is, I'm gonna see my honey again. That's all we can do is hope."

"I loved her so much," he concluded. "As Lazarus lay, Jesus said he's not dead, he's sleepeth. My final words are Beth isn't dead, she's sleeping."

'Dog the Bounty Hunter' Star Beth Chapman Hawaiian Funeral Plans Announced - PopCulture.com

Beth Chapman's family plans to memorialize the late Dog the Bounty Hunter star at a public gathering to honor her life in Hawaii. In a press release, her daughter Cecily and stepdaughter Lyssa Chapman invited the public to come and honor Beth's life at Fort DeRussy Beach in Waikiki, Hawaii on Saturday, June 29.

The gathering is set to begin at 2 p.m. with a Hawaiian 'Oli (chant), prayer and then a "paddle out" with family and friends.

The family asked those attending to bring ocean-friendly loose flowers, with the exception of leis, as the strings can be harmful to ocean life.

"Beth had two homes - Hawai'i and Colorado. 'I love Hawai'i the most,' she said, so she will be sent off in true Hawaiian style, with aloha," the press release reads.

"Duane Chapman is also finalizing plans for a memorial service in Colorado, and details will be announced shortly. Those wishing to post photos and videos are asked to tag with #alohaoemrsdog."

The release explained that 'Oe means 'you' in Hawaiian and that it's customary to say "Aloha 'Oe" especially when saying goodbye. "There is a song by the same name which Hawaiians often sing at the end of a party, funerals, or when people are leaving the islands," the release reads.

Previously, Beth's husband, Duane "Dog" Chapman, revealed to Hawaii News Now that the family planned on having two separate events to honor her life — one in Hawaii and another in Colorado.

"We would like to do some sort of water paddle out, we know that for sure," Lyssa Chapman said alongside her father. "It actually makes us feel, you know, warm, to know how much our mother was loved."

Dog announced Wednesday the his wife of 12 years had died after her battle with cancer, writing on Twitter that she "hiked the stairway to heaven." She was 51.

The A&E network, which aired Dog the Bounty Hunter during its run from 2004 to 2012, confirmed that it will honor Beth's memory with a marathon of episodes of Dog the Bounty Hunter airing Monday, with a special "in memory of" title card for the star at the end of each episode.

"We are very saddened by the loss of Beth Chapman and our thoughts are with Dog and the entire Chapman family during this difficult time," A&E shared in a statement.

WGN America, which is set to produce and air the family's upcoming series, Dog's Most Wanted, in 2020, also shared a tribute to the late reality star.

Speaking to Hawaiian press, Dog shared what happened during Beth's final moments in the hospital.

"One of the last things she said [was], 'This is a test of my faith.' She had faith and then that was it," he said. "... There's things you go through when you're dying, like steps. Like you do when you lose someone. You get mad at them and then you go through all these steps. Well, the last step when you're dying is to accept it. And she said to me the other day, 'Honey, that last step I ain't taking.' Go Bethy."

"She did it her way. There's some things [I can't say], you know, I have a network and a contract, but there's some things that they predicted that the doctors ended up saying, 'We've never, ever seen anything like this,'" Duane said, referring to his WGN America reality show, Dog's Most Wanted, he also stated. "...She wanted to live so bad and she fought so long. And the reason she fought, she liked life, but she wanted to show people how to beat it and what to do when it got her."
