Toy Story 4: What Did Woody Do In The 40 Years Before He Met Andy? - Screen Rant

The first three Toy Story films center on Woody's relationship with his kid, Andy. But while Andy was born in 1989, Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 4 both point out that Woody is a collectible toy from the 1950's. What was Woody's life like for the 40 years before he met Andy?

The movies do not explicitly state the years in which they take place, which makes the Toy Story film timeline inexact. However, references within the films can date the first movie as taking place in 1995. This means that Andy, who is turning six in the first film, was born in 1989. Woody and Andy were friends from an early age, so Woody and Andy could have first met when Andy was a baby.

Even then, however, Woody is a lot older than Andy. In Toy Story 2, Woody learns that he is a collectible toy based on the 1950s television show Woody's Roundup. Along with Jessie the Cowgirl, Bullseye the Horse, and Stinky Pete the Prospector, Woody is part of a limited edition set of toys that are rare enough to be sold to a Japanese museum. The black-and-white aesthetic always suggested the 50s, and this is confirmed in Toy Story 4 by Gabby Gabby. As a result, Woody would have lived thirty to forty years of his life before meeting Andy.

When Al tries to buy Woody at the yard sale in Toy Story 2, Andy's mother apologizes and takes Woody back, saying that he is "an old family toy." Andy is only around eight years old in Toy Story 2, and as his mother identifies Woody as a family toy, rather than her son's toy, that seems to signal that Woody has been in the family's possession longer than Andy has been alive.

In Toy Story 2, Woody remarks, "A record player! I haven't seen one of these in ages." It's unlikely that Andy would have had a record player in the 1990s, so this would indicate that Woody does have memories of his life before. It's likely that Woody was owned by one of Andy's parents when they were children. Some fan theories go deep into Andy's missing father, and hinge on the idea that Woody once belonged to him; because Andy associates Woody with his father, he is all the more attached to the toy.

The difference between his previous owner(s) and Andy is that Woody was Andy's favorite toy, and the connection that they shared was special. In Toy Story 4, it's the one that defines Woody's entire existence. Even though Woody's time with Andy was relatively short, Andy was the kid that was most important to Woody.

Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones kick off North American tour - CBS News

An energetic Mick Jagger skipped, spun, sprinted and pranced Friday night as the Rolling Stones launched their North American tour at Chicago's Soldier Field. The 75-year-old showed no sign of ill health three months after the tour was postponed because a doctor said he required medical treatment.

By all visible indications: Jagger was Jagger.

Before a sold-out crowd of around 60,000 at the Chicago Bears home stadium, the band's finger-wagging frontman opened with "Street Fighting Man," running from the stage in the end zone area and down a narrow stage jutting into the crowd on what is normally the 30-yard line of the football field.

He didn't say he was speaking about his health, but could have been as Jagger looked out at the audience and shouted, "It feels pretty good!" In an interview with Toronto radio station Q107 earlier this month, Jagger said he is "feeling good." He reportedly underwent heart surgery in March

A cross-section of fans, from ages 18 to 80, swayed and bobbed as they roared the lyrics in unison to the finale of one of the over 50-year-old band's favorites, singing, "Let's Spend the Night Together."

Jagger sang for over two hours on a massive stage, with the city's skyline as his backdrop, and seemed no worse for the wear. As he bowed, fireworks exploded overhead.

The No Filter Tour was slated to start April 20 in Miami before doctors told Jagger in late March he required treatment, reportedly for a heart valve issue.

Jagger went out of his way to pay homage to Chicago, a home of the blues and long considered an artistic inspiration by the band. He tipped a hat to the Chicago blues with the edgy "Midnight Rambler," which featured Jagger himself on harmonica.

"We love Chicago so much we decided to start the tour here instead of Miami," Jagger said, to cheers from the crowd. He also gave a shout out to the new mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot.

The band stuck almost entirely to playing old classics, the set including "Let's Spend the Night Together," ''Gimme Shelter," ''Brown Sugar," ''Sympathy for the Devil" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want."

All the Stones are now in their 70s. Guitarist Keith Richards is also 75. Ronnie Wood, who plays guitar as well, is 72. Drummer Charlie Watts is the senior member at 78. And they seemed as enthusiastic as Jagger, and also showed no indication of slowing as the show stretched beyond two hours.

All the cities on the tour that were previously postponed are locked in, and there's a new date in New Orleans. A second show at Soldier Field, the home stadium of the Chicago Bears, is scheduled for Tuesday.

The coast-to-coast tour, which the Stones have said will feature classic hits, will include stops in Florida, Texas, Arizona, California, Washington, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Washington, D.C. Tickets sold for the original dates are being honored, but those who couldn't attend were able to get refunds by accessing their Ticketmaster accounts.

Ryan Reynolds Hugs Pregnant Wife Blake Lively As She Visits Him On Movie Set - Hollywood Life

Lovebirds! Ryan Reynolds is filming his new movie in Boston and his pregnant wife Blake Lively headed north from their home in New York for a set visit and a sweet hug from her man.

Absence has definitely made the heart grow fonder for Ryan Reynolds and his pregnant wife Blake Lively. The 42-year-old has been filming his new movie Free Guy in Boston and she surprised him with an on set visit on June 22. In an Instagram stories pic the Canadian hunk seen in front of a collegiate looking building holding Blake in his arms with a huge hug. She has her head planted into his chest with a huge smile on her face as Ryan looks at the camera with a big grin. He wrote “Great Scott” on the photo with a professorial looking emoji bouncing up and down.

Blake looked beautiful in a sleeveless dark sun dress that went down to just above her knees. She’s well into her second trimester so the 31-year-old kept her footwear sensible and comfortable in a pair of white sneakers. With the flowy dress it was hard to see the outline of her baby bump, but it’s definitely there. She was sporting a huge baby belly as the couple strolled through New York City on June 19 with their daughters James, 4, and Inez, 2, in tow.

This will be baby number three for Blake and Ryan, and she debuted their pregnancy news in a big way. She attended the May 2 premiere of the Detective Pikachu animated movie that Ryan provided the voice for and her tight yellow dress revealed a very pregnant baby belly. The couple has been highly private when it’s comes to the last two times they were expecting so it was a refreshing way for her to just get the news out there to the world that they had baby joy to celebrate.

In addition to Ryan’s visit from Blake, he got to meet two of his new film’s co-stars for the first time, Stranger ThingsJoe Keery and Pitch Perfect’s Utkarsh Ambudkar. He posted an Instagram pic in front of the Boston Flower Market with his hands around their shoulders and captioned it “First day working with Joe Keery and Utkarsh Ambudkar. My arms feel so safe, draped loosely across their powerful shoulders.đź‘• (special cameo by Thelma the dog)” Ryan stars in the 2020 action-comedy as a bank teller who discovers he’s trapped inside a violent video game.

‘Toy Story 4’ Buzzes To $38M Overseas Through Friday; Has Eyes On $110M+ Opening Weekend - Deadline

Through Friday, Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 4 put $38.3M in the piggy bank, for a likely $110M+ opening frame at the international box office. That would land it slightly above pre-weekend industry projections, with great starts in Latin America and despite soft — if not unexpected — results out of China (more on China below).

The fourquel is out in 49 markets repping 64% of the overseas footprint. Mexico is leading all play at $6.4M through yesterday with Brazil next at $5M and the UK at $3.9M. To get a sense of how well Latin America is leaning in, Brazil welcomed a new record on Thursday with Toy Story 4 roping $2.7M for the best opening day ever on an animated movie. In Argentina, TS4 drew the industry’s all-time biggest opening day in admissions, and was No. 2 in terms of box office, behind only Avengers: Endgame. Mexico on Friday grabbed the biggest opening day ever for animation and the No. 4 industry start of all time.

In Europe, Spain scored the biggest animation opening day of 2019 yesterday and the UK saw the best non-holiday Friday ever for animation. (Also of note in the UK, Paramount’s Rocketman has surpassed £20M, becoming the only non-Disney title to do so this year as well as the highest-grossing British film of 2019.)

As for Asia, Korea put TS4 in the top spot on Thursday with the best opening day ever for Disney/Pixar. On Friday, Disney’s Aladdin moved back up the chart to No. 1 with TS4 at No. 2, but they have again switched places today. The running estimated cume in Korea is $5.5M through Saturday (today’s figures are not included in the international cume above). Indonesia on Friday delivered the biggest opening day ever for Disney/Pixar and the 2nd best ever for animation behind Despicable Me 3.

The China cume through Saturday (not reflected in the international total above) is estimated at around $8.4M. Woody and Forky are in 2nd place in the Middle Kingdom, as we expected would be the case since they have competition from Hayao Miyazaki’s Oscar-winning 2001 film Spirited Away which is just getting its first theatrical release there. However, TS4 jumped by over 100% on Saturday over Friday with matinees kicking in and as Spirited Away skews to an older demo. The social scores in China are high with a 9.2 on Maoyan and Tao Piao Piao and a 9 on Douban. Pixar movies in China, outside Coco, have been slower to gain traction versus Disney’s other brands.

This Toy Story is still unfolding overseas with Italy, France, Japan and Germany on deck in the coming weeks. Franchise-wise, it trends big in both Japan and the UK with the last one clearing well above $100M at final in each of those. More recent overseas comparisons include Incredibles 2, likewise a fresh entry many years following the previous title, with a key difference being that TS4 is a 4th film rather than a second installment. Incredibles 2 in like-for-like markets and at today’s rates opened last summer to $115M. Finding Dory in summer 2016 opened to $90M abroad in like-for-like markets and at today’s exchanges.

The Top 10 markets through Friday are Mexico ($6.4M), Brazil ($5M), UK, ($3.9M), Argentina ($3.1M), China ($2.7M), Korea ($2.4M), Australia ($1.8M), Colombia ($1.3M) and Peru ($1.2M).

We’ll have a full update on Sunday.
