Prince William and Kate's motorcade injures elderly woman in crash - AOL

LONDON, June 19 (Reuters) - An elderly woman is in hospital with serious injuries after she was struck by a police motorbike escort for Britain's Prince William and his wife Kate.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's convoy was traveling from London to Windsor on Monday afternoon when the accident occurred.

The woman, Irene Mayor, who is in her 80s, is in a serious but stable condition, police said.

The Sun newspaper, citing witnesses, said the escort was on the wrong side of the road clearing traffic for the couple's convoy when the incident happened.

Britain's police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, said it was investigating.

The royal couple were "deeply concerned and saddened" to hear of the accident, according to a spokeswoman, and a member of their staff visited the woman and delivered flowers.

"Their Royal Highnesses have sent their very best regards to Irene and her family and will stay in touch throughout every stage of her recovery," the spokeswoman said.

The accident took place when the couple were on their way to Windsor for the St George's Chapel service commemorating the Order of the Garter.

In January, a woman was injured in a car crash involving Prince Philip near the royal family's Sandringham Estate.

The Land Rover that Philip was driving flipped over. The 98-year-old was uninjured and voluntarily surrendered his driver's license soon after.

The Duke and Duchess have been in contact with the woman, Kensington Palace said, after she was taken to hospital following an incident with a police motorbike involved in the convoy.
The couple were on their way to Windsor for a chapel service when the incident occurred in Richmond, west London, on Monday afternoon.

"The woman, believed to be in her 80s, has been taken to hospital for treatment where she remains. Her next of kin have been informed," the statement added.
Kensington Palace said: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were deeply concerned and saddened to hear about the accident on Monday afternoon."
"Their Royal Highnesses have sent their very best wishes to Irene and her family and will stay in touch throughout every stage of her recovery," the palace added.
Earlier this year, a Land Rover driven by Prince Philip, the Queen's husband, collided with another vehicle carrying two women, aged 28 and 45, as well as a nine-month old baby boy.
Philip, then aged 97, gave up driving after the incident, but will not face charges.

Lin-Manuel Miranda's Freestyle Love Supreme Coming to Broadway - Playbill.com

Broadway will soon host two Lin-Manuel Miranda shows, when Freestyle Love Supreme comes to the Booth Theatre, just a block south of Miranda's Hamilton.

The improvised hip-hop musical from Miranda, Thomas Kail, and Anthony Veneziale, which enjoyed a sold-out run downtown earlier this year, will begin previews September 13. Opening is set for October 2. The show is scheduled for a 16-week run. Tickets go on sale to American Express holders June 21 and to the general public July 9.

The core cast will be comprised of core Andrew Bancroft AKA “Jelly Donut,” Arthur Lewis AKA “Arthur The Geniuses,” Bill Sherman AKA “King Sherman,” Chris Sullivan AKA “Shockwave,” Anthony Veneziale AKA “Two-Touch,” and Utkarsh Ambudkar AKA “UTK.” Expect surprise appearances during the run from Miranda, Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart, Daveed Diggs, and Chris Jackson.

“Fifteen years ago, when Freestyle Love Supreme was first developed, the idea of bringing our little improv show to Broadway seemed completely out of the realm of possibility,” said Kail and Miranda in a statement. “But it is out of that improbability that FLS has found this new home, thanks to legions of loyal fans—first at Ars Nova, at various festivals around the world, then with one-off shows, and most recently with our off-Broadway run last winter. We’ve had many of our happiest and most fulfilling creative moments working on FLS and are excited to see its next chapter unfold at the Booth Theatre. It is a show that consistently surprises us: we have no idea what to expect any time we do it— and isn’t that the true beauty of live theater? Freestyle Love Supreme wouldn’t want or have it any other way!”

The show is directed by Kail and produced by Kail, Miranda, Jenny and Jon Steingart, and Jill Furman.

Lizzo Used Her First Televised Awards Show Performance To Pay Homage To "Sister Act 2" - BuzzFeed

Gather round, people. For those of you not old enough to be familiar with Sister Act and its glorious sequel Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, here's a brief history lesson about a true classic.

The Simpsons

(And if you're of a particular age and just have never seen it. Well, I'll just leave this here.)

Sister Act, starring Whoopi Goldberg, is about a Las Vegas headliner, Deloris van Cartier, who is forced to go undercover and pose as a nun because she's hiding from the mob after witnessing a murder.

Released in 1993, the sequel Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, saw Goldberg reprise her role as the undercover nun and become a choir instructor at an underfunded, inner city high school. The film starred the likes of Maggie Smith and singer/actress Lauryn Hill.

And to begin with, Goldberg's character Sister Mary Clarence is a little out of her depth.

But it all comes together with a massive high school choir competition where... Well, I don't want to ruin it for anybody who hasn't seen it. But if you know, you know.

And at this year's MTV Movie & TV Awards, singer Lizzo reminded everyone why the film is still such a classic by paying homage with her performance.

For her first ever televised award show performance, the rapper/singer and flute player donned choir robes similar to Hill's character Rita Watson, and sampled Joyful, Joyful for the opening.

Behind the scenes, the production also recreated the moment where choir members were told to remove their robes and appear in their own choice of clothing for comfort.

“Lizzo says take off your robes.”

MTV Movie & TV Awards

The performer delivered an energetic rendition of her single Juice, complete with 90s styled back up dancers who performed choreography inspired by the movie.

And it was incredible.

The 31-year-old uploaded a clip from the performance on Instagram and said the film was her "favourite movie" before thanking her team for making it all come together.

Naturally, everybody loved it.

LIZZO X SISTER ACT 2 I actually have tears in my eyes what can she do wrong?!?!?!? https://t.co/hXCBAHcJuk

Sister Act 2 is black history. It is Black Culture. It is my blood and I'm....... @lizzo why do you do this for us. What did we do to deserve you.

You can watch the entire performance here. One more time for Lizzo everybody!

James Corden & Michelle Obama Face Off in Star-Studded Dodgeball Game - E! NEWS

Are you ready for some dodgeball?

Michelle Obama and James Corden showed off their patriotic pride and faced off in an epic dodgeball tournament on Monday's episode of The Late Late Show.

It all started when the former first lady and the late-night host got into a debate over whether the United States or the United Kingdom was better. After comparing musicians and sports, the two decided to settle this on the dodgeball court. So, they each recruited a few of their celebrity pals and had a friendly Team U.S.A. versus Team U.K. competition.

For Team U.S.A., Obama enlisted the help of Mila Kunis Allison Janney, Melissa McCarthy, Lena Waithe and Kate Hudson.

"Listen, when Michelle Obama calls and asks you to do anything, you just say yes," Kunis said.

As for Team U.K., Corden brought on Harry Styles, Benedict Cumberbatch, John Bradley and Reggie Watts (the latter of whom isn't actually British).

"When James Corden calls you, you initially ignore the call," Styles said. "Then, he keeps calling you. Then, he keeps texting saying 'Hey, did you get my call?' Then, he shows up at your house, your work, your hairdresser, your pilates class and your shower."

After the singing of the national anthems, the tournament began. Team U.S.A. took the first round. However, after a quick tea break, Team U.K. rallied and won the second. It all came down to the third and final round, which took place after a quick signing of Obama's new book, Becoming.

In the end, it was Team U.S.A. who took home the trophy.

Watch the video to see the star-studded competition.
