'Hunger Games' to return to bookshelves with new prequel in 2020 - USA TODAY

NEW YORK (AP) — A decade after seemingly wrapping up “The Hunger Games,” Suzanne Collins is bringing readers back to Panem. A prequel, set 64 years before the beginning of her multimillion-selling trilogy, is coming next year.

The novel, currently untitled, is scheduled for release on May 19, 2020. Collins said in a statement Monday that she would go back to the years following the so-called “Dark Days,” the failed rebellion in Panem. Collins set the “Hunger Games” books in a post-apocalyptic dystopia where young people must fight and kill each other, on live television.

“With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival,” she said. “The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days — as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet — provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”

The book is set well before the lifetime of “Hunger Games” heroine Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence in the billion-dollar movie franchise. Scholastic spokeswoman Tracy van Straaten declined comment on the new book’s contents or featured characters beyond what’s described in Monday’s announcement.

'The Hunger Games' 10th anniversary: 10 bold career risks Jennifer Lawrence has taken

“Suzanne Collins is a master at combining brilliant storytelling, superb world building, breathtaking suspense, and social commentary,” Scholastic Trade Publishing President Ellie Berger said in a statement. “We are absolutely thrilled — as both readers and publishers — to introduce the devoted fans of the series and a new audience to an entirely new perspective on this modern classic.”

Lionsgate released the four “Hunger Games” movies, and the studio’s vice chairman, Michael Burns, has suggested a prequel. In a recent statement to The Associated Press, Lionsgate chairman Joe Drake said, “As the proud home of the ‘Hunger Games’ movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne’s next book to be published. We’ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie.” The studio did not immediately respond when asked if an agreement for film rights had already been reached.

The first three “Hunger Games” books — “The Hunger Games,” ″Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay” — have sold more than 100 million copies and have been translated into more than 50 languages. The very title “The Hunger Games” has become a catchphrase for suffering and deadly competition, inspiring such headlines as “Trump’s $1 trillion (infrastructure) plan inspires ‘Hunger Games’ angst.”

—Although she was actively involved with the production of the “Hunger Games” films, Collins appeared done with the novels after the publication of “Mockingjay,” in 2010. She had said little about her plans in recent years, beyond telling a gathering at the 2013 BookExpo publishing convention that she was working on a new series. Her most recent book, of any kind, came out in 2013: The picture story “Year of the Jungle” was based on the time in Vietnam served by Collins’ father, a career Air Force officer.

Collins has cited her father as a reason for her lifelong studies of war, and cited both contemporary and classical culture as inspirations for “The Hunger Games.” She named the country Panem as a reference to the Roman expression “panem et circenses,” meaning bread and circuses, diversions for the masses. In a 2010 interview with The AP, she recalled watching television one night, switching channels, and becoming momentarily disoriented by going back and forth between a reality program and the Iraq War.

'Hunger Games' star Amandla Stenberg: 'Yep, I'm gay, not bi or pan'

“We have so much programming coming at us all the time. Is it too much? Are we becoming desensitized to the entire experience?” she said. “Dystopian stories are places where you can play out the scenarios in your head — your anxieties — and see what might come of them. And, hopefully, as a young person, with the possibilities of the future waiting for you, you’re thinking about how to head these things off.”

'Big Little Lies' might be giving us the most GIF-able TV season of all time - CNN

The drama was alive and well in the second episode of the sophomore season -- unlike Perry. (Burn.)
Renata learned she's poor now. Madeline's (Reese Witherspoon) loud-mouth child Chloe spilled the beans to Ziggy and Celeste's (Nicole Kidman) twins that they're half-brothers and no one was happy about it, especially Jane (Shailene Woodley) who had the unfortunate job of explaining to her child the definition of the word assault.
Celeste continued to work on her trauma in therapy in scenes that artfully and sensitively painted a visceral picture of how difficult that process can be. Ed (Adam Scott) declared he wanted to leave Madeline after finding out about her infidelity. Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) continued accessorizing her guilt with constant moping. And not to be forgotten, Mary Louise (Meryl Streep) remained determined to get to the bottom of Perry's murder and everyone, especially Celeste, knows she's capable of doing so.
In fact, it's increasingly apparent that there's little Mary Louise is incapable of.
Take for instance, the episode's earliest GIF-able moment, when Mary Louise put Madeline in her place for what seems like the 25th time in two episodes.
"I suspect you are a godsend," Mary Louise said, playing with her necklace in a way that emphasizes her ability to make casually cutting comments. "But on your bad days, decidedly less so."
Perfection.
This episode gave Renata (Laura Dern) multiple chances to have what can only be described as Emmy Reel moments.
Early in the episode, her husband was arrested in front of a crowd of people, leaving her horrified and mortified. She later learned his misdeeds have left the family without a cent, leading to an explosion of Renata proportions.
"I will NOT NOT BE RICH," Mt. Renata screams, with fury.
When her husband posted bail, she became furious when he seems to insinuated that her constant "want" -- a theme of this season, perhaps -- pushed him to make extreme choices.
She got so angry she kicks him out of the car. As she does, she begs of the frustrated, honking drivers behind her: "Will somebody give a woman a moment?"
You can have a moment, Laura Dern. Will one on the Emmy stage work for you?

'Bogus, tasteless': O.J. Simpson denies rumors he fathered Khloe Kardashian with Kris Jenner - RT

Former NFL star O.J. Simpson has taken to his newly-launched Twitter account to deny rumors that he had fathered Khloe Kardashian with Kris Jenner.

The rumors, Simpson says, are being spread by Norman Pardo, a man who "the media love to say is my manager."

Speaking in a video message via his new Twitter account, Simpson strenuously denied any involvement with Kris Jenner, and denied the rumors surrounding him potentially being Khloe's biological father.

"I never - and I want to stress never - in any way, shape or form had I ever had any interest in Kris, romantically, sexually and I never got any indication that she had any interest in me," he said.

"So all of these stories are just bogus. Bad, you know? Tasteless."

Rumors of Simpson fathering Khloe are nothing new, and came before the Kardashian children became household names in the United States with their famed reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, with one episode featuring Khloe discussing the possibility that she was adopted.

"Khloe, like all the girls (from the Kardashian family), I'm very proud of, just like I know Bob would be if he was here," he said.

"But the simple facts of the matter is she's not mine."

And on the topic of Pardo, Simpson stated that he had never been his manager, despite media reports to the contrary.

"I've always managed my own affairs, and I'd like to think very successfully," he said.

"So, when you see these guys like Norm, and these guys claim that they are my manager, it's just not true.

"I may have done a deal here or there with them, but none of these guys were anything remotely like a manager for me."

Simpson increased his public profile on Friday by launching a Twitter account, @TheRealOJ32 after previously staying away from the public eye. In his first post he said he had some "getting even to do."

The former NFL legend for the Buffalo Bills was released from prison in 2017 after being jailed for robbery and kidnapping in a bid to steal back sports memorabilia previously stolen from him.

He was also charged, then acquitted, of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman after a highly-publicized trial.

'Big Little Lies:' Tell-Tale Hearts Unleashes More Secrets - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

In Big Little LiesTell-Tale Hearts, some secrets The Monterey Five have held on to are finally uncovered. Celeste Wright’s twins and Jane Chapman’s son find out they’re half brothers due to Chloe Mackenzie eavesdropping on Madeline’s conversations. Ed also realized that Madeline has kept secrets from him, upsetting the usually calm man. What other secrets does the Tell-Tale Hearts episode unleash?

Does Mary Louise Wright suspect Celeste Wright of murder?

In Big Little Lies Tell-Tale Hearts, Mary Louise admitted she looks at Celeste as an “enigma,” the same way Perry Wright described her to his mother. After she found out that Perry had another child that she never knew about, Mary Louise began to question Celeste. Celeste tried to explain the abusive relationship between herself and Perry and that he fathered another child by rape. Mary Louise refused to accept this and claimed Jane Chapman could have been drugged, drunk, or mistaken.

Mary Louise also doesn’t believe her late son truly beat Celeste because Celeste never called the cops. She then pointed out the convenience of Celeste learning about the child just minutes before Perry’s death and already planned on leaving him that same day. Mary Louise realizes she has too many questions and not enough answers, so she’s going to the police.

Ziggy Chapman found out he has step-brothers

Chloe Mackenzie overheard her mother talking on the phone, and told Celeste’s children, Max and Josh, that they have a brother in second grade. She also told Jane’s son, Ziggy, the same. When Madeline Mackenzie found out, she took Chloe’s phone away and called Jane to let her know.

Jane talked to Ziggy and admitted they are his half-brothers. He said he’s known for a few months and didn’t tell her because he knew she would lie. Jane explained she never told him the identity of his father because she genuinely didn’t know. When she did find out, she didn’t know how to explain it to him. Ziggy also told his mom that Chloe said Perry “salted” her.

He meant “assault,” and Jane explained to him what the word means and what happened between her and Perry. Big Little Lies Tell-Tale Hearts ended with Celeste and her boys coming over to Jane’s house for dinner.

Ed Mackenzie discovered Madeline Mackenzie had an affair

After Chloe repeated Ziggy’s father situation, Ed told Madeline he never knew and questioned why she didn’t tell him. He got upset because he felt like Madeline hides secrets from him. Therefore, it hit the ceiling when Ed walked in on a conversation between Madeline and Abigail Carlson.

Abigail brought up Madeline’s previous affair with the theater director, and Ed was so angry he left the house. He eventually came back later that night to talk to Madeline.

She admitted to the affair but said it happened a long time ago and had nothing to do with Ed. She reminds him repeatedly that it’s a “her” thing, and also suggested they go to couples’ counseling.

Madeline also said Abigail has known for a year, and once again he hates that his daughters know her secrets, and she doesn’t tell him anything. Ed tells her, very firmly, that their marriage is over in Big Little Lies Tell-Tale Hearts.

Renata Klein realizes her husband lost their money in ‘Big Little Lies’ Tell-Tale Hearts

When Renata should be celebrating her magazine cover, her husband, Gordon Klein gets arrested on charges for security, mail, and wire fraud. He admitted to Renata that he probably lost all their money and the reality of not being rich anymore enraged Renata. She attempted to talk her feelings out with Madeline but ended up leaving quickly after deciding she should call an estate lawyer.

Renata picked Gordon up from jail once he was released on bond and then left him on the side of the road in a fit of anger. She then quickly turned around and allowed Gordon to get back in the car.

Spice Girls hint at possible Australian world tour - CNN

"We'll see you in February in Australia," Mel B told the crowd. Details of live dates in Australia -- which would be the first time the group has ever performed in the country -- are yet to be officially announced.
Geri Horner, aka Ginger Spice, also surprised the crowd Saturday by apologizing for quitting the group in 1998.
"I need to say something I should have said a long time ago," Geri told 70,000 loyal fans at Wembley Stadium.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry I left. I was just being a brat. It is so good to be back with the girls that I love."
Geri left the band in 1998 after reportedly suffering from health issues, two years before the whole band went on an indefinite hiatus.
Her emotional announcement came at the end of the group's 13-date reunion tour, which saw the singers visit cities including Dublin, Cardiff, Manchester, Coventry, Sunderland, Edinburgh and Bristol.
Geri also shared a heartfelt video of herself standing inside the empty stadium following the final show. "This is it. They are taking it down. It's been amazing," she said, while shrugging her shoulders.
Geri poses with singer Sam Smith at the 2018 Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix.
She posted another video thanking her fellow bandmates and everyone who attended the concerts. "Thirteen stadiums. Almost 70,000 people, with three amazing women I've shared that stage with," she said.
"I want to say thank you to Melanie, Melanie and Emma and everybody who showed up for us. It has been something that I will never, ever forget. Thank you so much. Big love from Spice World."
A number of high-profile guests attended the concert Saturday evening, including Grammy award-winning singer Adele.
The Spice Girls arrive for a screening of their movie "Spice World" in New York in 1998.
"Last time I saw the Spice Girls at Wembley was 21 years ago," she wrote on Instagram. "Tonight with my nearest and dearest I cried, laughed, screamed, danced, reminisced and fell back in love with my 10-year-old self.
"It's no secret how much I love them, how much they inspired me to run for my life and never look back. I finally got to meet Ginger, I got drunk with the girls and quite frankly I can't believe how far I've come."
The Spice Girls launched their reunion tour in May in Dublin, and they performed as a four-piece as Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, declined to take part.
