Felicity Huffman could avoid jail time in college admissions scandal: report - Fox News

Felicity Huffman's remorse, lack of criminal history and the relatively lower amount she bribed a Harvard graduate could help her avoid jail time in the college admissions scandal, according to a report. She was also one of the first parents ensnared in the scandal to announce she would plead guilty.

Huffman allegedly paid a Harvard graduate $15,000 to correct her daughter’s SAT, giving her a 400-point boost from an earlier test. Some of the parents charged in the scandal allegedly paid as much as $500,000 to get their kids into elite schools, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Under 2019 federal sentencing guidelines, Huffman could face four to 10 months, a defense attorney told the Times. Since her recommended sentence is on the lower end, she could end up serving her sentence at home while wearing an ankle monitor.

She will also likely have one year of probation, her daughter’s test score will be adjusted and she will reportedly have to forfeit the $15,000 and pay a $20,000 fine, USA Today reported.

"I am in full acceptance of my guilt, and with deep regret and shame over what I have done, I accept full responsibility for my actions and will accept the consequences that stem from those actions," Huffman said in a statement obtained by Fox earlier this month.

Huffman is reportedly due back in court on May 21.

Seagram Heiress Clare Bronfman Pleads Guilty in NXIVM Sex Slave Case - Rolling Stone

Clare Bronfman, the 40-year-old billionaire heiress to the Seagram Company fortune, pleaded guilty to creating sex slaves for Keith Raniere, the self-anointed leader of NXIVM, a cult-like group based in upstate New York. In a federal court in Brooklyn on Friday, Bronfman said she harbored someone who was living in U.S. illegally for unpaid “labor and services.” Bronfman also admitted to committing credit card fraud on Raniere’s behalf, according to the Associated Press.

Bronfman is the daughter of billionaire-philanthropist and former Seagram chairman Edgar Bronfman Sr. Her apology to the judge touched on her family’s wealth and privilege that enabled her grievous deeds. “I was afforded a great gift by my grandfather and father,” Bronfman said in court. “With the gift, comes immense privilege and more importantly, tremendous responsibility. It does not come with an ability to break the law … For this I am truly sorry.”

Bronfman agreed to forfeit $6 million from her $200 million fortune, per AP.

NXIVM’s accountant, Kathy Russell, also pleaded guilty on Friday to a fraud charge. Russell and Bronfman join three other NXIVM defendants who have pleaded guilty, including former Smallville actress Allison Mack. According to the initial New York Times report exposing the group in 2017, Mack was the lead recruiter in NXIVM’s all-female sect called DOS. This sect supplied “slaves” who were blackmailed into engaging in sexual activity with Raniere and required to brand themselves with Mack’s and Raniere’s initials.

NXIVM operated under the guise of offering self-improvement classes, which Bronfman bankrolled with tens of millions of dollars. Per AP, she also paid for the NXIVM’s legal counsel when the group was served.

Though Bronfman faces more than two years in prison, her plea prolongs her sentencing to July 25th – nearly two months after Raniere’s sentencing in early May. Raniere faces conspiracy charges alleging that people such as Bronfman created a ring of women who were forced to have sex with him. Because Russell and Bronfman pleaded guilty, Raniere will face a jury alone.

Jussie Smollett's Brother Says He's Suffering Night Terrors Over 'Attack' - TMZ

Jussie Smollett Brother Says He's Telling the Truth ... 'Empire' Star Has Night Terrors

4/20/2019 10:31 AM PDT

Jussie Smollett is the victim of an out of control media and social media storm and the "Empire" star is suffering profound emotional issues from simply telling the truth about the "attack" ... so says his brother.

Jojo Smollett says Jussie is "violently awakening from night terrors, following the assault" ... so he says in an op-ed piece for BET.

Jojo calls claims that Jussie staged the attack "ludicrous," adding he has been insanely successful and didn't need a phony reason to boost his career opportunities or salary.

Jussie's brother says there are plenty of people who support the actor and the problem lies with the "bandwagoning and tyranny of the 'perceived' majority."

Jojo says Jussie didn't even want to contact the police following the incident in Chicago and says it was his choreographer who insisted he do so and it was actually the choreographer who called the cops.

The message ... "What if Jussie is telling the truth?"
