Childish Gambino Performs New Song: Watch - XXLMAG.COM

Childish Gambino busted out a brand new track for his headlining performance on opening night of the 2019 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Friday (April 12).

Gambino had an extensive set, which saw him run through singles like "Redbone," "Summertime Magic," "Have Some Love," a cover of Gnarles Barkley's "Crazy," "Terrified" from his most recent album Awaken, My Love and, of course, "This Is America." He also premiered something new.

With a tribal feel, the song starts off with Gam appearing to speak in a another language, possibly an African dialect. He then employs the crowd to follow in his chants before kicking off into the frenzied song, which is driven by deep bass and spacey chords. The rapper also debuted the Guava Island film co-starring Rihanna, which is now available on Amazon Prime, and paid homage to Mac Miller and Nipsey Hussle.

Gambino has been building up to the release of his upcoming album. Last July, he put out two new tracks "Summertime Magic" and Feels Like Summer." His mega-hit single "This Is America" earned Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Video of the Year and Best Rap/Sung Performance at the 2019 Grammy Awards earlier this year.

Following the Atlanta creator's show at Coachella, a fire broke out at the festival at a shower structure near the campground where the showcase is held. Witnesses reported hearing an explosion and seeing flames engulf the structure. The fire was eventually put out and no injuries were reported. The Riverside County Fire Department has announced the cause for the fire as a mechanical failure of the heating unit used for water. The show must go on.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launches November 15, debut trailer - Gematsu

Story-based third-person action adventure game.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a new third-person action adventure game developed by Respawn Entertainment, will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15, publisher Electronic Arts announced.

Pre-orders are available now in $59.99 standard and $69.99 Deluxe editions. The Deluxe edition includes a “Director’s Cut” suite of behind-the-scenes features and content, as well as unique cosmetic equipment. Pre-orders for either edition include additional unique cosmetic equipment for the player’s lightsaber and droid companion.

Here is an overview of game, via Electronic Arts:

■ About

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will feature an authentic story set shortly after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, when the Jedi have fallen. Fans will play as a young Padawan named Cal Kestis, brought to life by Cameron Monaghan (Shameless, Gotham), who has survived Order 66, the Emperor’s secret decree to eliminate all Jedi. Players must pick up the pieces of Cal’s shattered past to complete his training and master the art of the iconic lightsaber—all while staying one step ahead of the Empire and its deadly Inquisitors.

Players will meet Cal on Bracca, a brand-new Star Wars planet and one of several new locations introduced in the game. Cal is hiding from the Empire in plain sight but is forced to go on the run when he exposes his Force powers. Along the way, Cal will make new friends, like his mysterious companion Cere, as well as run into some familiar faces, all while being accompanied by his faithful droid BD-1. Cal’s flight from the Empire is made even more dangerous as he is being pursued by the Second Sister, one of the Empire’s elite Inquisitors, who seeks to hunt Cal down and extinguish this surviving Jedi. Assisting the Second Sister are the terrifying Purge Troopers, special Imperial forces trained to seek out Jedi and aid the Inquisitors in their dastardly work.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is designed with gameplay as a top priority in order to deliver the kind of intense Star Wars lightsaber battles that are seen in the films. Brought to life by Respawn, a studio known for high-quality games that are both visually beautiful and technically masterful, players will use their Jedi training to create different melee combinations with an innovative lightsaber combat system and Force abilities. Players will also use traversal and other platforming abilities to strategically overcome opponents and solve puzzles in their path across this galaxy-spanning adventure. Star Wars fans will recognize iconic locations, weapons, gear, and enemies, while also meeting a roster of fresh characters, locations, creatures, droids and adversaries new to Star Wars.

■ Staff Comments

Stig Asmussen – Game Director, Respawn Entertainment

“Many Star Wars fans, ourselves included, are really interested in the dark times, so we wanted to explore that mysterious, dangerous period. The team at Lucasfilm have been amazing collaborators, helping us explore and further develop this part of the timeline where the Empire is at the height of its power and any remaining Jedi are in hiding. Within this narrative, we’ve crafted a game with intense, yet thoughtful and fun melee combat using the lightsaber and Force powers, allowing anyone to fulfill their Jedi fantasy.”

Steve Blank – Director of Franchise Content and Strategy, Lucasfilm

“When Respawn approached us with the idea for this game, we were immediately supportive. A single player, story-driven title in the Star Wars universe was exactly what we were looking for, and we know the fans have been eager for one, as well. Focusing on Cal stepping back into the shoes of a Jedi post Order 66 opens up a lot of gameplay opportunities and rich story threads to develop for this new character and his backstory.”

Taylor Swift Has Been Hinting At Her Next Music Drop With A Series Of Complicated Clues - BuzzFeed News

Just after midnight on Saturday Taylor Swift posted a countdown clock on her website and Instagram stories suggesting ... something is coming on April 26.

Swift changed her profile photos on her social media to an image of pastel pink clouds — a color palette similar to the outfit she wore to her most recent public appearance at the IHeartRadio Music Awards last month as well as other images she's recently posted to Instagram.

True to her style, Swift posted the countdown clock on April 13, exactly 13 days before the final day — it's common knowledge that 13 is Swift's lucky number.

Now, some eagle-eyed Swifties noticed that back in October 2018 Swift posted a photo of herself playing Scrabble with her mother alongside the caption "Let the games BEGIN."

National Scrabble Day is April 13 — today.

The cryptic social media messages are also in line with how she's announced new music in the past. Before announcing her 2017 album Reputation, the singer wiped her social media accounts clean and began posting images and videos of snakes.

Additionally, in a recent article in Elle magazine in which Swift wrote about the 30 things she learned before turning 30 years old, she said that she makes countdowns for things she's excited about.

"When I've gone through dark, low times, I've always found a tiny bit of relief and hope in getting a countdown app (they're free) and adding things I'm looking forward to," she said.

Note that since Taylor Swift is possibly the most detail-oriented person in the world, the comment about countdowns was the 26th thing on the Elle list. Again, whatever's happening later this month, it's on the TWENTY SIXTH of April.

The countdown clock was also broadcast in New York City's Times Square — as well as other places around the world including London and in Melbourne — above the url aprilTwentySix.com — which reroutes back to her official website. (If you look closely, the letters T and S are capitalized in the countdown URL. "T" + "S" ... "TS" ... "Taylor Swift" ... get it?)

Whatever may be happening on 4/26, Swifties are pumped:

Taylor Swift and 'Avengers: Endgame' both have plans for April 26 - Mashable

Taylor Swift is coming for Thanos.

Image: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic

As every entertainment, movie, and Marvel comic fan must certainly know by now, April 26, 2019 — the day the highly-anticipated film, Avengers: Endgame, hits theaters — is sacred.

It's the day many people will hold their pee to sit in a movie theater for more then three hours so they can probably (almost definitely) watch Captain America die, learn if Thanos will finally be defeated, and see if our beloved fallen heroes will be brought back to life. But Taylor Swift doesn't seem to care.

On Thursday night the singer launched a mysterious countdown clock on her website and social media accounts that sent fans spiraling. It's unlabeled, so it could signal a new project, an announcement, or new music for all we know, but the countdown has the nerve to end on the already hyped Avengers: Endgame day.

How much can we be expected to handle, Taylor?! We're only human.

While it would be fun if Taylor was so excited about seeing Avengers: Endgame that she made a countdown clock, as I'm sure others have done, all signs point to her dropping new music that day.

She's changed her social media profile pictures to a soothing pastel, watercolor paint-esque picture, and also tweeted the following photograph alongside the date.

The color pink, along with rainbows, butterflies, and sparkles are definitely a change from Swift's badass Reputation build-up, but it seems she's been creating a running theme on her Instagram account leading up to whatever the drop will be.

Taylor's planning something.

Image: screengrab/instagram

Since she and the Marvel Universe do share quite the overlapping fanbase, though, a bunch of people are now overwhelmed with all this stacked April 26 news.

While people are trying to be logical here, the fact that Taylor Swift has a song titled "Endgame" and the Avengers movie is literally called "Endgame" is really too perfect to ignore.

Does Taylor make an appearance in the movie? Does the song? Is she the one who defeats Thanos? Gah, so much to consider.

They say April 25 is the perfect date, but this year? We might have to make an exception.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is engaged to man who contacted her in prison, report says - Fox News

Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the young Missouri woman who is serving a 10-year prison sentence for second-degree murder in her mother’s death, is reportedly engaged to her boyfriend after he began writing to her when he watched the documentary about her case.

Blanchard, 27, reportedly told her friends and family that she and her boyfriend, who was not named, are getting married, according to a family friend.

“They are very happy,” Fancy Macelli, a family friend, told People. “You can hear excitement in her voice.”

GYPSY ROSE BLANCHARD SAYS SHE ‘FELT LIKE A PRISONER’ BEFORE MOTHER’S FATAL STABBING

The couple reportedly became pen pals before they began dating and have known each other for 1 1/2 years. Macelli said the man began writing to Blanchard after he watched “Mommy Dead and Dearest,” the HBO documentary that premiered in 2017. The documentary followed the case of Blanchard and her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, 48, who was stabbed to death in 2015.

Macelli said the couple will not get married until Blanchard is released from prison and called the relationship a “good thing for her.”

“And whether it ends up being that way in the end no one knows, but for her right now it’s a very positive and happy time,” Macelli said.

Dee Dee Blanchard allegedly suffered from a mental illness called Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP), which occurs when a person attempts to produce psychological or physical symptoms in another person. Relatives said Blanchard was forced by her mother to use a wheelchair and undergo unnecessary medical procedures.

PATRICIA ARQUETTE TAKES ON SHOCKING GYPSY ROSE CRIME IN ‘THE ACT’: THE MOM-DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIP WAS ‘TOXIC’

Blanchard testified in November that she asked ex-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to kill her mother. Blanchard said her mother physically abused her and controlled her life. She said she thought killing her mom was the only way out and she talked Godejohn into coming to Missouri to kill her mother. The two met on a Christian dating site.

Blanchard’s story has spawned numerous TV specials, including the HBO documentary and the Hulu series “The Act,” which stars Patricia Arquette as Dee Dee and Joey King as Gypsy Rose Blanchard.

Donald Glover’s ‘Guava Island’ Debuts After Coachella Set as Childish Gambino - The New York Times

“Guava Island,” a new 55-minute film starring Donald Glover and Rihanna, was released as a limited-time free stream on Amazon overnight Saturday, during Glover’s headlining set as Childish Gambino at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

The mysterious project, which has been teased for months, features Glover as Deni, a singer hoping to bring the mystical island of Guava together with a music festival, while Rihanna plays his girlfriend, Kofi, and provides voice-over during a fairy-tale-like animated introduction about the fictional location and its valuable blue silk. Nonso Anozie (“Game of Thrones”) and Letitia Wright (“Black Panther”) also appear.

With a plot involving exploited workers, the struggles of musicians and a society divided between red and blue, the film incorporates themes present in much of Glover’s recent work, from the hit FX series "Atlanta" to his viral, Grammy-winning song and video for “This Is America,” which is interpolated in “Guava Island.”

The film was written by Glover’s brother Stephen and directed by his longtime collaborator Hiro Murai, who was also behind the camera for much of “Atlanta” and “This Is America.” Following its premiere on the grounds of Coachella on Thursday, and the Childish Gambino show on Friday night, “Guava Island” was made available for anyone to watch on Amazon for 18 hours starting Saturday at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time; it will then be available exclusively to Amazon Prime subscribers.

Shot in Cuba and inspired by the Brazilian crime epic “City of God” and Prince’s “Purple Rain,” “Guava Island” does not ultimately feature much new music from Childish Gambino — or any singing from Rihanna. The movie opens with a breezy unreleased number from Glover (“If the world ends/I think I wanna die with you”) and has elements of another song with the lyrics, “Maybe the sky will fall down on tomorrow/but one thing’s for certain baby/we’re running out of time.”

It also incorporates alternate versions of recent Childish Gambino singles like “Summertime Magic” and “Feels Like Summer,” along with “Saturday,” which Glover debuted on “Saturday Night Live” last year (“God, this 9 to 5 just keep on killing me,” he sings). In one scene set in a factory, another character tells Deni that he hopes to save enough money to make it to America. “It’s different there,” the man says. “I heard people are their own bosses.”

Deni responds: “This is America. Guava’s no different than any other country,” adding, “America is a concept. Anywhere where in order to make yourself rich, you have to make someone else richer is America.” He then leads a choreographed dance to the song that mirrors some of the music video.

At Coachella on Friday night, Glover — who has thrown his own festival, Pharos — did not make a show of plugging “Guava Island,” though he did incorporate tropical imagery and sounds into his set. For one unreleased song, he cleared a section in the crowd to scream over a cacophonous burst of complex drum rhythms, bathed in almost-apocalyptic red lights. He also performed the still-unreleased track “Human Sacrifice,” which debuted in a Google ad during the Grammy Awards in February.

Glover was overcome by emotion onstage while discussing the deaths of his father and the rappers Mac Miller and Nipsey Hussle. “What I’m starting to realize is all we really have is memories at the end of the day,” he told the crowd. “All we are really is like, data — you pass it on to your kids, you pass it on to your friends, your family.”

“While we’re here,” Glover added, “feel something and pass it on.”
